DESCRIPTION:In 2024\, Heidi Dauphin and Laura Spalding Best were paired up
  to create an installation for Artlink’s Annual Gala at the Phoenix Art 
 Museum. The two initially were uncertain how their practices would mesh as
  Dauphin is a mixed media/ceramic artist while Best is best known for her 
 found object paintings and murals. However\, after their first meeting\, t
 hey formed an instant connection and friendship. Their conversations laste
 d for hours\, discussing their individual practices. Among the many common
 alities between both of their work was their desires to collect objects wh
 ether it be personal everyday items or found objects. Each of their collec
 tions were immense. Dauphin has an entire room dedicated to items she has 
 saved over the years to use in her artwork while Best’s house has what s
 he deems as\, “paintings in waiting” tucked away throughout her house.
  Both realized that they wanted to peel back the curtain of their artistic
  practice and share their collection of objects but how? \nThat is when th
 e idea of Curiosity Chapel was born. The team searched for months finding 
 the right furniture to house their collection\, creating a free-standing r
 oom from thrifted cabinets and dressers. Hidden inside the drawers were co
 llections of objects from both Dauphin and Best’s studios. With each new
  drawer to open\, a new discovery. Visitors spent hours going through each
  of the cabinets finding interesting collections of items along the way fr
 om bread tags to silver spoons. The question that frequently fell from vis
 itor’s lips\, “What’s next?” The duo felt this natural inertia to 
 continue this installation and began discussing possibilities. Their resol
 ution: implode Curiosity Chapel. \nFor The Collectionists\, the artists de
 cided that their one guiding rule for the exhibition would be that they co
 uld only create artwork from the collections that were in Curiosity Chapel
 . While on the surface\, the exhibition appears to be about two artists th
 at have an affinity to collect found objects\, their practices are more in
 terwoven than that. This exhibition explores the intersections of Dauphin 
 and Best’s practices including their affinity for numbers and both of th
 eir habits of creating rules around their artwork. However\, what seems to
  be most apparent in both of their work is how both of their artworks seem
  to collect something much more existential\, the passage of time. \nOpeni

  class doesn’t require any prior knowledge or skill\, and all materials

DESCRIPTION:This exhibition considers how textiles build meaning through s
 oftness\, layers\, mark making\, and time—honoring processes often coded
  as feminine while welcoming all makers and interpretations—honoring voi
 ces often hidden and silenced through the open expression of ideas. Throug
 h layering\, construction\, and stitch\, these soft materials may be trans
 formed to challenge hierarchies\, elevate overlooked labor\, and assert th
 e quiet force of making as an act of presence and power. \n“This theme r
 esonates with me on a personal level. Having a background in architecture 
 and construction management\, I struggle with the conflict between the per
 ceived masculine world of architecture and my artwork. My career in archit
 ecture was very industrial focused. While my artwork inherently focuses on
  nature and organic forms. These two ideas feel worlds apart\, but collide
  in my consciousness. My latest works have been a reflection on the collis
 ion of these two worlds.”- Juror\, Shelley Ann Rothgeb \nHow will you in
 terpret “Constructed Softly”? You are invited to interpret this theme 
 from your own perspective. Challenge stereotypes\, find your own voice and
  explore the power in your work. Artists are encouraged to think broadly a
 bout layered and stitched fiber works that explore construction through so
 ftness\, fiber technique and accumulated labor. \nAbout the Juror\nShelley
  was the sixth generation raised on her family farm in Northern Indiana wh
 ere she inherited a tradition of making. She was the second in her family 
 to graduate from college after her grandmother completed a degree in Comme
 rcial Art at the Fort Wayne Art School in the 1930’s. Following in her G
 randmother’s footsteps\, Shelley attended one year at the Otis College o
 f Art and Design studying fine art. Then\, completed a degree in Architect
 ure at the College of DAAP at the University of Cincinnati. \nShe continue
 d to pursue artistic endeavors while working and raising a family\, but fi
 nally rediscovered her passion for fiber art in 2019. Since then\, she has
