nent became the site of war beginning in the 1750s and continued throughou
t the next three decades. The construction of Cliveden occurred during thi
s violent time. A growing household of over twenty people at Cliveden resh
aped their identities and looked to retain or procure their liberty at a t
ime when discussions of freedom and independence were in everyone’s thou
ghts. This exhibit explores their experiences and struggles as a new natio
n formed.\n\nProcuring Liberty in the Emerging Nation is made possible by
the generous support of The Mill Spring Foundation\, The Haley Foundatio
n\, the Richard Dietrich III Foundation\, The Chester County History Cente

acintha Kruc\, Kristen Neville Taylor\, Jonathan Wahl\, and Samara Wea
ver. Sited within the historic interiors and grounds of Cliveden\, the pro
ject reflects on the history of people and place in commemoration of the U
.S. Semi-quincentennial.\n\nThe exhibition is organized by Past Present Pr

DESCRIPTION:An award-winning documentary\, a photo exhibition celebrating
rural LGBTQ+ life\, and a homegrown drag show converge in one unforgettabl
e night. \nAmish Country Queer is a film about Lancaster’s queer nightli
fe and drag culture\, and a story about what it means to be visibly\, joyf
ully\, unapologetically queer in a place the world told you wasn’t built
for you. \nTulle Queer is an ongoing portrait series by trans artist Brad
y Pappas that honors the queer icons of the 717 region. Using tulle as a r
 ecurring visual motif\, the project creates a vibrant\, community-rooted c
elebration of visibility and resilience. \nThe Angel Hour is Lancaster’s
second-longest-running drag show\, celebrating five years of glamour and
sisterhood\, created by Charlize Angelz. \nThis is a night of celebration.
Of queer bodies\, queer lives\, and queer autonomy. Of breaking the binar
ies and changing the narratives we’ve been handed about where we can liv
e\, whom we can love\, and who we can be. Queerness has never been confine
d to city limits\, and this night proves it. \nAnd this is where the futur
e gets made. Not at the center\, but at the fringes. \nAmish Country Queer
: A Night of Film\, Art & Drag is presented by Little Echo Productions and
  co-presented by cinéSPEAK.

DESCRIPTION:Dyani White Hawk brings her groundbreaking practice—where tr
aditional Lakota design meets bold abstract painting—into conversation w
ith A Nation of Artists\, exploring how Indigenous artists have always bee
n essential to the American story\, even when institutions failed to recog
nize them. \nWhite Hawk’s monumental works challenge viewers to reconsid
er what American art means. By weaving together star quilts\, geometric ab
straction\, and materials that carry cultural memory\, she creates a visua
l language that honors ancestral knowledge while pushing contemporary art
forward. Her work asks essential questions: Whose traditions count as “A
merican”? How do artists maintain cultural continuity while innovating f
earlessly? What happens when we finally tell the full story of American cr
eativity? \nThis conversation\, moderated by scholar and curator Leah Trip
lett\, brings together themes of tradition\, continuity\, and innovation i
n Indigenous art—illuminating how Native artists have shaped American vi
sual culture for centuries\, often without credit or recognition. \nIn col
laboration with the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Artists on Art lecture
series\, this event celebrates how contemporary artists expand our underst
anding of American art history by insisting we look deeper\, question assu
mptions\, and make space for voices that have always been here. \nThis pro
gram is offered in a hybrid format—attend in person at PAFA or watch the
live stream on YouTube. A link to the livestream will be emailed to all r
egistrants by 11:30 AM on the day of the event. A recording of the program
