DESCRIPTION:Joslyn Castle & Gardens and Metropolitan Community College are
partnering once again for the Art & Literary Festival. This year we delve
into the darkness in an exploration of Gothic Art and Literature! \n\n\n\
nThe main event of the festival is the production of an anthology of drama
tized short stories and excerpts from three Gothic era tales\, adapted and
directed by Scott Working of MCC. Guests will travel through the halls of
Omaha’s own Victorian Castle\, each room revealing a different vignette
. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe dramatic production includes scenes from thr
ee iconic works of Gothic fiction. A young mother writes about her isolati
on and anxiety in The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. In H
enry James’ The Turn of the Screw\, a governess shares her confusion a
nd fear of evil influences. The final chapter of Robert Louis Stevenson’
s famous novella is titled “Henry Jekyll’s Full Statement of the Case
” and is the final confession of the doctor. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Castle bar
will be open selling refreshments and libations\, please bring a valid ID
to partake in adult beverages. \n\n\n\nThe Carriage House doors open for c
heck-in at 6:30pm\, guests will then be divided into groups and guided to
the Castle for the theatrical performance at 7pm. \n\n\n\nNOTE: Our interi
or elevator is currently non-functioning. We are hoping it is repaired in
time for the festival\, but if you have mobility issues please note some p
rogramming takes place on the upper levels of the home. \n\n\n\nThe Gothic
Art and Literature Festival receives educational programmatic support pro
vided by the Nebraska Arts Council\, Amy L. Scott Family Foundation and th
 e Whitmore Charitable Trust.
