DESCRIPTION:UNTITLED vol.2 is proud to announce their next solo exhibition
\, Without Sound\, from Brooklyn based multimedia artist\, Sara Gates.\nW
ithout Sound explores a “feedback loop” in which traditional material
s and accelerated production processes continually inform and transform on
e another into new rhythms of possibility.\nTraditional materials carry hi
stories of craft\, labor and touch as they encounter technologies defined
by speed\, automation and endless reproduction. Clay is shaped alongside t
he logic of the digital image. Canvas and dye meet the infinite repetition
s of the screen print. Hand-printed marks exist in dialogue with systems c
apable of generating images in an instant.\nGates’ techniques accumulate
in ways that resist a single point of origin. These iterations and this c
yclical approach extend into ceramics and sculptural elements by bringing
the work into three dimensional space and emphasizing the harmony between
image\, object and environment.\nRather than positioning the analog and di
gital as opposites\, Gates allows them to collide\, overlap and feed one a
nother. The works become records of this exchange. In Without Sound\, Gat
es asks us what happens when the handmade is subjected to the speed of tec
hnology and what technology might reveal when slowed down\, re-used and tr
anslated back into the physical world.\nPlease join us Saturday Sept.19th
  from 6-9p for an opening reception with the artist!\nUNTITLED vol.2 / 48
