DESCRIPTION:MoMI presents an exhibition of material related to Jane Schoen
brun’s film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. In this meta explorati
on of the slasher film genre\, a queer filmmaker (Hannah Einbinder) is tas
ked with resurrecting a 1980s/’90s-era horror franchise about supernatur
al murders at a sleepaway camp\, and seeks out the film’s original\, rec
lusive “final girl” (Gillian Anderson) for inspiration. \nThe Museum
’s installation will pair screen-used props from the fictional Camp Mias
 ma franchise—VHS tapes\, posters\, merchandise\, and a costume—with a
series of movie posters selected by Schoenbrun\, which include Psycho (196
0)\, Sleepaway Camp (1983)\, and Dressed to Kill (1980). The posters\, wit
h descriptive text by Schoenbrun\, illuminate the sources the filmmaker dr
ew upon\, each of which contribute to the genre’s complex representation
of gender\, desire\, and sexual deviance. \nThe exhibition opened July 30
\, ahead of the film’s theatrical release on August 7. It will be on vie
w in the Museum’s ground-floor Founders Hall and will feature approximat
ely 35 objects\; admission is free. \nPresenting Sponsor

DESCRIPTION:New York\, NY — On Thursday\, September 17th at 7pm\, the bo
undless energy of contemporary music takes center stage as Composers Conco
rdance presents an explosive\, genre-blurring performance at Shrine in Har
lem. True to its reputation as an enterprising new music organization\, th
is free concert features a kaleidoscope of premiering works from nearly tw
enty trailblazing composers\, spotlighting an exciting collaboration with
Robert Voisey and his advocacy organization Vox Novus. \nThe evening featu
res the rapid-fire intensity of the 15 Minutes of Fame Duo (Oren Fader on
guitar and Adeline DeBella on flute)—a direct presentation of Vox Novus
’s signature initiative that packs fifteen distinct\, one-minute miniatu
re masterpieces into a single set—alongside the fierce rhythmic driving
pulse of the Gene Pritsker Trio\, featuring Gene Pritsker on guitar\, Matt
Zebroski on drums\, and Freddy Cash Jr. on bass\, and the expansive fusio
n soundscapes of the Dan Cooper Quartet\, featuring Dan Cooper on bass\, E
van Francis on flute and tenor saxophone\, Yayoi Ikawa on keyboard\, and R
ex Benincasa on drums. \nThis eclectic showcase perfectly embodies the ove
rarching legacy and mission of Composers Concordance\, which has spent mo
re than four decades aggressively pushing the boundaries of sound alongsid
 e like-minded allies in the avant-garde community. Established in 1984\, t
he organization has dedicated itself to breaking the bubble of classical p
retension by treating every composition under a rule of “all of the abov
e”—seamlessly fusing contemporary classical music with jazz\, electron
ics\, and groove-driven experimentation. By partnering with Robert Voisey
’s Vox Novus\, a fellow grassroots powerhouse dedicated to giving a glob
al voice to living composers through innovative presentation practices\, t
his concert highlights a powerful\, shared commitment to artistic democrat
ization. Offering a completely free performance at a lively community stap
le like Shrine World Music Venue\, co-directors Gene Pritsker and Dan Coo
per continue to honor their 43-year history of keeping adventurous new mus
ic accessible to everyone and cementing the living composer as a respected
\, vital force in modern society. \nThe concert will also be live-streamed
  on Composers Concordance’s Facebook page
