DESCRIPTION:Brave New World Repertory Theatre presents a rare revival of S
amuel Beckett’s timeless classic “Happy Days\,” featuring real-life
married couple Claire Beckman and John Edmond Morgan as Winnie and Willie.
  Buried waist-deep in a scorched mound of apocalyptic waste\, a middle-age
d woman clings to her daily rituals with relentless optimism as her world
closes in around her. Written during the Cold War\, when the image of a ba
rren landscape evoked the shadow of nuclear annihilation\, Beckett’s pla
y has evolved into a stark metaphor for the current climate crisis\, polit
ical paralysis\, and our seeming inability to break free of patterns that
harm ourselves and the planet. \nThe female-led production is directed by
Jade King Carroll\, artistic director of Chautauqua Theater Company\, and
runs September 17-October 3 at the intimate Loading Dock Theatre on Tillar
y Street in downtown Brooklyn. \nPerformed by Claire Beckman and John Edmo

DESCRIPTION:This adaptation is set in 1958 – the midpoint between the o
riginal year of the play and present day\, and a time when the brilliance
and sensuality of women became stunted by suburban conformity. \n \nIns
pired by seminal period works such as Mad Men\, and the novels of Patric
ia Highsmith and John Cheever\, we’re leaving the corsets and wool over
coats behind\, and instead setting this production in a toxic\, sunbleach
ed\, New York City suburb. \nDeviating from Ibsen’s reputation as one o
f the fathers of realism\, this production will be dreamy-steamy\, leanin
g into the surreal and sensual. Hedda’s character is transformed from
a figure of grim solitude into a fiery\, manic presence that masks a deep
er unease. \n \nThis staging plays off themes of stolen youth\, stolen v
 alor\, status and self\, and a deep\, capitalistic\, existential hunger f
 or more at all costs.

DESCRIPTION:At the farewell dinner at our Hosted Group Travel Experiences\
, we like to go around the table and have each of our travelers share what
they loved most about the experience. It is a helpful exercise to receive
real time feedback of course. It is also a meaningful exercise to pause a
nd reflect on the time we spent together as a group exploring a special sp
ot on the globe. \nThis is exactly what we did on our last night in Cartag
ena. To ensure the intimacy of the experience we took over the teeny tiny
family owned restaurant La Picua. Such a delight to be tended to by the hu
sband and wife team that so clearly loved hosting our group in their color
filled and art filled dining space. It was the ideal setting for the grou
p to share what they loved most about their experience. Interestingly\, ou
r travelers did not land on any one singular experience to lavish praise u
pon. Rather they shared their observations on what visiting Cartagena mean
t to them. \nEach traveler expressed how much they appreciated the positiv
e energy that permeated the whole experience. They loved the joy that seem
ed to emanate from each and every human we met. They loved the dreamy\, pl
ayful and colorful Cartagena aesthetic that could be admired with our eyeb
alls as we explored this city in great depth. They loved feeling so very w
elcomed by each of our hosts and loved how generous each host was with the
ir knowledge and enthusiasm for Cartagena. \nIt occurred to me as our trav
elers were sharing these thoughts that the reasons they LOVED our experien
ce in Cartagena were the very same reasons I loved this group of travelers
. \nEach and every person in our group came to this experience with a posi
tive energy and an open mindset – much like the country we were visiting
. Each person derived joy from each and every experience – large and sma
ll. And their fashion aesthetic? They matched Cartagena with that too! Eve
ry day and evening they turned up in colorful and eye-catching fashion ens
embles that matched the colorful Cartagena aesthetic. \nMost importantly e
ach of our travelers were so warm\, welcoming and authentic to one another
  – they directly matched Cartagena’s warm\, welcoming and authentic vi
be. The vibe of the group directly and completely matched the vibes of the
city we were exploring!! WHOA!!! \nThe entire experience in Cartagena\, w
as once again enhanced by sharing it with the group: Collective Effervesce
nce defined. I guess we are in the business of creating opportunities for
Collective Effervescence! 🙂 \nOur last morning was collective effervesc
ence – Cartagena style. On the morning of our final full day we experien
ced a drum performance which in and of itself was quite captivating. But t
hen… then we were on the receiving end of a thorough and thoroughly sati
sfying drum lesson. \nTogether as a group we gathered in a circle and rhyt
hmically followed directions repeating the drum beats of our instructor wi
th concentration and enthusiasm. The pace quickened and we kept up – our
pulses raising right along with the quick syncopation of our drum beats.
I am guessing our pulse rates were all syncopated as we cheerfully patted
away on our personal drum set up. And we crushed it!! \nThe group drumming
together filled the tent with music and smiles and a pulsating and captiv
ating energy. I could have stayed there drumming away with our group all d
ay. This experience too matched the vibe of Cartagena and our group: joyfu
l\, coursing with positive energy\, an open expression of authentic creati
vity. \nDid our travelers choose Cartagena because they were drawn to the
vibe that matched their own vibe? Or did the vibe of Cartagena inspire our
group to match its vibe? Or is it a simple combo of the two?  \nEither w
ay it was a very special travel experience that I will be forever grateful
to have been a part of. Thank you group for joining me in Cartagena. My e
xperience was a million times better from experiencing it with each of you
and your high vibing selves. \nWhere shall we GO next!!?? \nHope you can
join for one of our hosted group trips someday soon so you can experience
the collective effervescence that is created for yourself. London anyone?

better investigate soon.” Lyrics from a haunting song provide a Greek c
horus throughout this deeply compelling play about voter suppression in th
e Jim Crow South. The time: the 1960’s. The place: Mississippi. The song
: “Oxford Town”\, by a young Bob Dylan. \nThe song was written about
James Meredith\, in 1962 the first Black person admitted to the Universi
ty of Mississippi. Racist riots erupted\, and as Dylan wrote\, “Two men
died ‘neath the Mississippi moon.” But\, as Dylan said\, “This co
uld have happened any time.” And it did\, even as Jim Crow was falling.
\nIn 1965 the American Civil Liberties Union sent a young lawyer\, Marty
Garbus\, to Mississippi to represent Henrietta Wright\, a Black woman in
her 30s who was arrested in front of the Last Chance Café\, a small st
ore she owned with her husband. The reason\, Wright was told by the white
officers holding shotguns\, was a traffic violation: driving through a sto
p sign. \nThe real reason: with the Voting Rights Act merely twenty days o
ld\, Mrs. Wright had just registered to vote. \nThis fabricated traffic vi
olation led to a stunning violation of a Black woman’s civil rights: Wri
ght was assaulted\, committed to a state mental hospital based on the lies
of two complicit doctors\, and then imprisoned. Immediately after her rel
ease\, Wright had the courage to file a complaint with the ACLU and bring
a federal lawsuit against the two police officers and two doctors. As Garb
us landed in Mississippi\, he thought of James Meredith\, with Dylan’s l
yrics reverberating in his mind: “Somebody better investigate soon.”
\nGarbus warned Wright that her chances of winning her case were next to n
othing\, but they agreed she could still make a defiant stand against whit
e supremacy and for voting rights—and that’s exactly what she did. As
Garbus said after\, “The ominous Mississippi night which had so often h
arbored black men\, hanging from their necks\, the burning Cross\, the vic
ious beating\, had lost some of its threat for Mr. and Mrs. Wright.” \nS
ixty years later\, with racism still rampant and the right to vote still u
nder attack\, this play could not be more relevant. \nAbout Playwright Sus
an Charlotte\nSusan’s multi-faceted career started with Prism Blues. Bas
ed on her work as a prison counselor\, the play earned her a place in Colu
