DESCRIPTION:MoMI presents an exhibition of material related to Jane Schoen
brun’s film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. In this meta explorati
on of the slasher film genre\, a queer filmmaker (Hannah Einbinder) is tas
ked with resurrecting a 1980s/’90s-era horror franchise about supernatur
al murders at a sleepaway camp\, and seeks out the film’s original\, rec
lusive “final girl” (Gillian Anderson) for inspiration. \nThe Museum
’s installation will pair screen-used props from the fictional Camp Mias
 ma franchise—VHS tapes\, posters\, merchandise\, and a costume—with a
series of movie posters selected by Schoenbrun\, which include Psycho (196
0)\, Sleepaway Camp (1983)\, and Dressed to Kill (1980). The posters\, wit
h descriptive text by Schoenbrun\, illuminate the sources the filmmaker dr
ew upon\, each of which contribute to the genre’s complex representation
of gender\, desire\, and sexual deviance. \nThe exhibition opened July 30
\, ahead of the film’s theatrical release on August 7. It will be on vie
w in the Museum’s ground-floor Founders Hall and will feature approximat
ely 35 objects\; admission is free. \nPresenting Sponsor
