Wise Little Ghost \nIn My Wise Little Ghost\, Hyland’s latent grief ove
r her abortion from many years ago is activated by her sister’s pregnanc
 y. Week by week\, as she learns all about how her niece develops in utero\
, Hyland uncovers the texture of buried\, complicated feelings from the im
possible timing and circumstance of the end of her marriage that led to th
e choice she made. As she tracks memory and experience on deep psychedelic
therapy journeys\, the unexpected arises: “who-would’ve-been-Daisy”
finds voice and narrates the story from somewhere off in the cosmos\, in
conversation with Hyland\, as each speaker works through what happened and
touches into who they are—and aren’t—as a result of Hyland’s abor
tion. \nAll book sales proceeds will go to Poets House.

DESCRIPTION:Horror always means something. Horror movies serve to either s
ubvert or uphold\, implicitly or explicitly\, tropes rooted in systemic ra
 cism\, misogyny\, xenophobia\, transphobia\, heteronormativity\, class dis
parity\, and more. This pattern has become increasingly evident as real-li
fe horrors such as the global rise of fascism have erupted and\, simultane
ously\, horror movies and shows have become increasingly popular\, perhaps
in part as a way of pointing to\, challenging\, and attempting to make se
nse of these modern brutalities. \nThis class will examine\, through a que
er\, feminist lens\, how conventions of the horror genre such as body horr
or\, ecological horror\, and domestic terror reflect the historical\, soci
al\, and political contexts of our lives. We will discuss the use of horro
r tropes and conventions in the work of contemporary poets such as Dorothe
 a Lasky\, Kiki Petrosino\, Patricia Smith\, torrin a. greathouse\, and Nat
alie Eilbert\, alongside horror films such as I Saw the TV Glow\, Get Out\
 , Obsession\, Rosemary’s Baby\, and Jennifer’s Body\, as well as write
and workshop our own horror-inspired pieces. \n\nRemote 2-Hour Craft Sess
 ion | Thursday | July 23 | 7-9pm ET | $60 ($55 for Members) \nThis remote
class will take place on Zoom. The Zoom link will be emailed to you by
a staff member in the week leading up to the class start date. \n\nAll a
re welcome\, space is limited. A limited number of need-based scholarships
are available. Please email support@poetshouse.org with any questions. B
y attending or participating in this program\, you agree to abide by ou

from New York living in Philadelphia. A 2026 recipient of the AWP Intro Jo
urnals Project Award in Nonfiction\, her work can be found or is forthcomi

DESCRIPTION:Desire\, Myth\, and the White‑Hot Center: A Two-Day Immersio
n in Poetic Craft and Critique \nIn this two-session seminar and workshop\
, we’ll gather at summer’s white‑hot center to think about how poe
 ms hold desire: urgent\, unrequited\, ecstatic\, impossible. We’ll move
from classical myth to contemporary work\, reading poets who write into lo
nging\, desire\, and the complicated layers of love and human connection.
\nThe first meeting will be part close-reading\, part generative lab. We
’ll read poems together (mythic\, lyric\, and otherwise unruly) and resp
ond to them through a series of prompts that invite you to write from your
  own sense of urgency\, distance\, fantasy\, intimacy\, heartbreak\, and e
cstasy\, and so forth. \nThe second meeting will be a workshop devoted to
your drafts. Together\, we’ll talk about how to deepen emotional stakes\
, focus imagery\, and make space on the page for contradictory feelings. B
y the end of the weekend\, you’ll leave with new poems\, a set of prompt
s you can return to all summer\, and renewed ways of thinking about desire
\, connection\, and what it means to draw from the white‑hot center in y
 our own work. \nSaturday & Sunday (8 hours over 2 days) | July 25 – 26 |
  12 – 4pm ET | $275 ($220 for Members)\n(Jul 25\, 26) \nThis workshop wi
ll take place in the Stanley Kunitz Conference Room at Poets House. \n\nAl
l are welcome\, space is limited. A limited number of need-based scholarsh
ips are available. Please email support@poetshouse.org with any question

ree poetry collections\, including One More World Like This World (Four
Way Books\, 2025)\, a Library Journal “Title to Watch\,” and When The
