inspired by NOMA’s permanent collection\, as well as works on view in t
he upcoming exhibition Confluence: The Tina Freeman Collection of Photogra
phs. They will learn how to operate a camera\, use peer review to gain mor
e skills in photography\, as well as how to mat and frame their photograph
 s. Students will also draw inspiration from the natural life found in the
Besthoff Sculpture Garden to inform their practice. \nPlease note: Having
your own personal camera is not a requirement for workshop participation.
However\, participants who have their own camera are welcome to use theirs
for the workshop. Participants are encouraged to attend all sessions\, as
the content will build on creating a comprehensive piece. \nRegistration
for the entire workshop series is $55 for members and $65 for other partic
ipants. \nRegister Now \n\nWorkshop Details\nDates: Thursdays from Septemb
 er 10 – November 5 \nTime: 12:00 – 2:00 PM \nLocation: New Orleans Mus
eum of Art\, second floor Art Studio \nPlease note: Having your own person
al camera is not a requirement for workshop participation. However\, parti
cipants who have their own camera are welcome to use theirs for the worksh
 op. \n\nAbout biseat yawkal\nbiseat yawkal\, originally from a family o
f farmers\, was born in the Horn of Africa in 1984. biseat’s work interr
ogates and illuminates the journey of a reluctant refugee. Climate change\
, migration\, improvisational black art forms\, and resilience through div
ersity have inspired biseat’s growth as an artist. biseat was raised in
central California\, an agriculturally important but socially overlooked r
egion of the Golden State. There\, the mentorship of a ceramics instructor
and admiration for the photo lab at their high school sparked biseat’s
imagination. After a twenty-year hiatus from artistic exploration\, biseat
reconnected with their love for clay\, photography\, and mixed media thro
ugh a change in perspective and environment. \nAbout Art Thrives: Creative
Aging at NOMA\nEstablished in 2022 as part of the Vitality Arts Project f
or Art Museums funded by E.A. Michelson Philanthropy\, Art Thrives is NOMA
’s Creative Aging initiative designed to engage adults ages 55 and older
through the arts. The program offers annual multi-session arts workshops
inspired both by the museum’s permanent collection as well as its missio
n to promote lifelong learning. Led by professional teaching artists\, the
se workshops engage older adults in skill-based learning and encourage soc
ial interaction. \nLEARN MORE ABOUT ART THRIVES

DESCRIPTION:Kulturabend - Lecture\n\n\n\n\nMike Larkin presents: The Civil
War in New Orleans\n\n\n\n\nThe Civil War in New Orleans tells the story
of the city and region during that most turbulent period in our history.\n
\nThe city fell after only a token defense\, so many of the uncomfortable
elements of the narrative were deliberately excised.\nAs a consequence\, t
he real life stories of courageous Southern women facing seemingly insurmo
untable challenges were not adequately told.\nSimilarly\, the accounts of
thousands of black men and women who struggled to find their rightful plac
e amidst the chaos of war were also\nnot sufficiently mentioned.\n\nMissin
g too are the stories of the thousands of local creole and immigrant men\,
blacks and whites\, who filled the ranks of Union regiments\noccupying th
e city. But also largely forgotten was the decisive impact made in this re
gion by locally raised regiments\, batteries and battalions\nthat fought f
or the Confederacy. Many of these soldiers died in battles far from home.
Also erased from the narrative were Union soldiers stationed\nhere.\n\nThe
Civil War in New Orleans tells these stories of mostly ordinary people th
rust into extraordinary circumstances and how they coped. It is our\nhisto
ry and most of it took place in neighborhoods we now call home.\n\nMichael

These decisions are definitely not easy to make when considering the high

The difficulty in making these decisions is a testament to the incredible
work our colleagues across the nation and world are doing.” \nRecipients

E CITY\, UT — The United States Association for Small Business and Entre
preneurship (USASBE) announced the Excellence in Entrepreneurship Educatio
n Award recipients during USASBE 2026 held in Salt Lake City\, Utah in Feb
ruary. \n“Not only does USASBE celebrate innovations and achievements in
entrepreneurship education\, we also showcase best practices that can be
replicated at universities around the globe. The USASBE Program Awards all
ow us to accomplish both simultaneously.” said USASBE Board Chair\, Dr.
Sara Cochran\, Clinical Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship in the Kel
ley School of Business at Indiana University. \nAs USASBE’s top program
honors\, the USASBE Excellence in Entrepreneurship Education Awards recogn
ize bold and innovative programs making an impact in the field of entrepre
neurship education. The Model Programs (large and small institutions) and
Model Emerging and Re-Emerging Program Awards honor colleges and universit
ies with comprehensive\, high-quality educational programs that successful
ly train future generations of entrepreneurs. The Excellence in Pedagogica
l Innovation and Excellence in Co-Curricular Innovation Awards recognize i
nstitutions with creative\, high-quality\, sustainable\, and impactful cou

eneurs develop their ideas into viable and even scalable businesses. \n“
These decisions are definitely not easy to make when considering the high
quality applications that we receive each year\,” said Dr. Krystal Geyer
\, 2026 Awards Chair. “The award review panels heavily debate the merits
of each program during the process and the decision as to which program
’s name goes on the plaque often comes down to the smallest of details.
The difficulty in making these decisions is a testament to the incredible
work our colleagues across the nation and world are doing.” \nRecipients
