DESCRIPTION:Ruby-throated hummingbirds are moving south right now\, and fo
r a few weeks they are everywhere around the feeders and late-season flowe
rs at Warner Park. This free\, all-ages morning builds a whole event aroun
d watching them go. \nThe banding station runs from 9 to 11 a.m. — resea
rchers catch\, measure and release the birds\, and it is genuinely startli
ng to see one up close in a person's hand. Around that there are observati
on and education stations\, face painting\, art activities\, and staff on
hand with practical advice on what to plant and hang if you want hummingbi
rds in your own yard. \nNo registration required. Five hours is a generous
window\, so there is no need to rush out the door at 9 — though the ban
ding is the part that ends first.

DESCRIPTION:The Stellars - Mission: Green\n\n\n\n\nThe Stellars - Mission:
Green is a show aimed at our youngest explorers\, ages 3 to 8.\n\nImani\,
Aki\, and John are three friends from an alien solar system. While on a s
pace exploration mission\, something routine for their people\, they distr
actedly neglect their onboard “chores\,” leading their ship to crash o
n an unknown planet – Earth. The accident damages the life-support syste
m that sustains the cherished forest they keep onboard\, which gives them
their vital Yumi-Plumi fruits. However\, forests in their society are usua
lly taken care of by robots.\n\nWith no knowledge of plant care or any mea
ns of contacting their elders\, they are fortunate to be able to turn to t
he planetarium audience for help. All hope now rests on the Earth children
\, who help the Stellars discover what plants need to survive and to rescu
e their Yumi Plumi forest. There is a race against time – will the child
ren be able to figure out the successive elements needed to nourish the pl
 ants?

and MashUp for a celebratory evening reception and pop-up exhibition as we
officially open the Jackie Shane Archives to the public. The reception wi
ll take place on Tuesday\, October 6 from 6:00-8:00PM. Program details for
thcoming. Non-alcoholic drinks and hors d'oeuvres provided. This event is
free and open to the public\, but registration is highly encouraged. \nJa
ckie Shane was born in Nashville in 1940 and began her pioneering career a

at the height of her fame. She maintained a reclusive lifestyle in Nashvi

historical marker for Shane in September 2024. The following summer\, Cali

expression “involved in going beyond what the physical eye perceives.
” The talk will introduce audiences to Rossi and the enigmatic\, hybrid
visual language she developed across her practices in drawing\, painting\,
printmaking\, and sewing.\nStephanie Strother is a PhD candidate in Art H

of the 19th and 20th centuries. As a research associate in Prints and Draw

DESCRIPTION:NOTE: This event is only open to students in the CORE class B
eing Human\, Encountering Others. If you are not taking Being Human\, plea
se see an alternate date HERE. \nJoin us at the Curb Center for a hands-o
n painting workshop led by Vincent Pomilio\, abstract landscape painter an
d featured artist in the Curb Center’s exhibition\, Land Shapes. Pomilio
will introduce participants to his signature technique using Venetian pla
ster and pigments on and pre-primed wood panels. Materials and lunch will
be provided. \nVincent Pomilio’s Artist Statement:\nI primarily work in
all painting media\, on canvas\, paper\, or wooden panel. For the past te
n years my work has been largely abstract\, always using the Natural World
as my guide. The image evolves through a series of layers\, each one rubb
ed\, sanded\, or burnished with tools. The image then reveals itself and I
intuitively know when to bring it to completion. Some of my work has a st
rong landscape feeling as in “Between The River and The Sky.” I always
encourage the viewer to find recognizable shapes and images in my work.
“If you see it\, it is there”. Most of these paintings have an all-ove
r feeling as if these self-organizing systems continue off the picture pla
ne. One shape flows from another\, and then another\, until there is a pul
sating energy of interacting elements. Worlds of refined\, chaotic movemen
t are animated by color.\nI usually start with an acrylic base and drawing
  tools\, pencil\, wax crayon\, ink etc. I also use a Kolcaustico plaster w
ith marble dust and pigments in layers. As it is drying I carve into it an
d paint into with pigment or water-based paint and start to build up the s
urface. I do as much carving as painting. Nothing is collaged onto the pai
nting unless I specify collage as part of the material. A lot of the shape
s are created with tape and the material is troweled onto the surface. Aft
er it is all said and done I rub a refined beeswax into it and burnish the
surface to bring up all the detail and seal the surface. It acts as a gla
ze as well and makes it resistant to moisture. All materials are permanent
.\n\nHosted by: Arts and Sciences: Beyond The Core\, Curb Center for Art\,
