DESCRIPTION:Virtual Workshop – Live/OnlineSeries Fee: $175 for MCN membe
 rs / $255 for nonmembers  \n\n\n\n\n\nRegister for the Series\n\n\n\n\nTh
is series is now at maximum capacity and has sold out. There is no wait li
st for this event. This series will be offered again in early 2027\; check
back on our Events Calendar soon to register. \n\n\n\n\nMany nonprofit le
aders know they need to diversify funding\, but major donor fundraising ca
n feel out of reach\, especially in small- to mid-size nonprofits without
large development teams. The good news is that your next major donor is li
kely already connected to your organization or within your existing networ
 k. The key is knowing where to look\, how to build the relationship\, and
how to confidently invite deeper investment in your mission. \n\n\n\nIn th
is 3-session virtual series\, we will help you build the confidence\, clar
ity\, and practical systems needed to identify\, cultivate\, and engage ma
jor donors in ways that feel genuine\, strategic\, and aligned with your m
ission. \n\n\n\nAcross three live online sessions\, we will reframe fundra
ising as relationship-building\, map the people already surrounding your m
ission\, prioritize the right donor prospects\, and strengthen your abilit
y to lead donor conversations with greater clarity and confidence. Through
  practical tools\, guided exercises\, and real-time application\, this ser
ies is designed to help you move from uncertainty and overwhelm to a more
focused\, strategic\, and repeatable approach to major donor fundraising.
\n\n\n\nYou will leave with practical frameworks and tools you can use imm
ediately to strengthen donor relationships\, build a more intentional dono
r portfolio\, and create momentum toward long-term fundraising sustainabil
ity. Past participants have shared that this course increased their confid
ence\, strengthened their donor conversations\, and gave them practical to
ols they could apply right away. \n\n\n\nBy the end of this 3-session ser
ies\, you will be able to:  \n\n\n\n\nReframe major donor fundraising as
an opportunity to build meaningful donor partnerships rather than simply a
sk for money. \n\n\n\nIdentify potential major donors\, connectors\, and
advisors already within your organization’s existing network. \n\n\n\n
Prioritize the right donor prospects based on alignment\, engagement\, rea
diness\, and funding goals. \n\n\n\nDevelop tailored engagement strategie
s that deepen trust and move donor relationships forward. \n\n\n\nLead do
nor conversations with greater clarity\, confidence\, and purpose. \n\n\n
\nUse practical tools and frameworks to build a more structured\, strategi
c\, and repeatable major donor process that supports more diversified fund
ing.\n\n\n\n\nWatch a video about the Major Donor Coaching Cohort Experien
 ce here. \n\n\n\nSession Details\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nSession 1: Mindset and
 Cultivate Mapping – September 15 @ 9:30am – 11:00am CT \nIn this ses
sion\, we begin by exploring the psychology of generosity and dismantling
the “begging” narrative that often creates fear or hesitation around f
undraising. Together\, we will shift the mindset from asking for money to
inviting partnership in meaningful work. \n\n\n\nWe will then map 30–50
relationship pathways within your existing network to help you identify th
e hidden donor potential already surrounding your mission\, including supp
orters\, connectors\, and advisors. \n\n\n\nBy the end of Session 1\, you
will be able to:  \n\n\n\n\nReframe fundraising as an invitation to partn
 ership rather than a transactional ask.\n\n\n\nDescribe how generosity\, s
hared purpose\, and donor motivation can shape stronger fundraising conver
 sations.\n\n\n\nIdentify supporters\, connectors\, and advisors already wi
 thin your organization’s network.\n\n\n\nCreate a Cultivate Map of 30–
50 relationship pathways connected to your mission.\n\n\n\nRecognize where
major donor potential may already exist within your current community and
relationships. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSession 2: Building the Right Portfolio
 – September 29 @ 9:30am – 11:00am CT \nIn this session\, we will help
you move from a broad or cluttered database to a prioritized portfolio of
qualified donor prospects. Using the Engagement Scorecard and related too
ls\, we will evaluate prospects based on engagement\, alignment\, influenc
e\, readiness\, and relationship strength. \n\n\n\nYou will begin building
a focused Power 10 Portfolio and develop customized engagement designs th
at help move priority donors from contact to committed partner. \n\n\n\nBy
the end of Session 2\, you will be able to:  \n\n\n\n\nEvaluate donor pr
ospects using practical criteria such as alignment\, engagement\, influenc
e\, and readiness. \n\n\n\nDistinguish between a broad contact list and a
focused donor portfolio built for meaningful cultivation. \n\n\n\nPriori
tize a Power 10 Portfolio based on real funding goals and relationship pot
ential. \n\n\n\nDevelop customized engagement designs for your top prospe
cts. \n\n\n\nBuild a more strategic and repeatable process for major dono
 r cultivation over time. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSession 3: Designing Confident C
 onversations – October 13 @ 9:30am – 11:00am CT \nIn this session\, w
e will build the messaging and structure you need to lead donor conversati
ons with greater clarity and confidence. Building on the work from the fir
st two sessions\, we will help you define impact\, communicate need\, and
make the ask in a way that feels grounded\, relational\, and clear. \n\n\n
\nWe will also strengthen your approach to stewardship so donors become mo
re than a source of funding. They become meaningful partners in your missi
on. \n\n\n\nBy the end of Session 3\, you will be able to:   \n\n\n\n\nU
se a clear framework to structure major donor conversations with greater c
 onfidence.\n\n\n\nCommunicate shared values\, need\, impact\, and invitati
on in a compelling and mission-centered way.\n\n\n\nPrepare for donor asks
with messaging that feels clear\, relational\, and strategic.\n\n\n\nAppr
oach the ask as a natural part of relationship-building rather than a disc
onnected fundraising task.\n\n\n\nStrengthen stewardship and next-step pla
nning to support long-term donor partnership.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOptional Impl
ementation Labs: From Strategy to Action – September 22\, October 6\, &
 October 20 @ 9:30am – 10:30am CT\nThese optional one-hour working sess
ions are designed to help you move from theory to execution without the o
verwhelm. Through peer discussion\, hands-on application\, and focused gro
up coaching\, we will bridge the gap between “knowing” and “doing.
”  \n\n\n\nRather than introducing new content\, these sessions give y
ou space to apply the course tools directly to your own donor portfolio\,
 messaging\, outreach strategies\, and upcoming conversations. Together\, w
e will troubleshoot challenges\, refine next steps\, and build momentum so
you can walk into your next donor meeting with greater clarity\, confiden
ce\, and a practical 90-day action plan. \n\n\n\nBy participating in the
optional implementation labs\, you will be able to:  \n\n\n\n\nApply cou
rse tools and frameworks directly to your own donor relationships and fund
raising priorities. \n\n\n\nRefine engagement strategies\, donor messagin
g\, and next steps through peer discussion and group coaching. \n\n\n\nSt
rengthen your readiness for upcoming donor meetings and conversations. \n
 \n\n\nBuild a practical 90-day activation plan for cultivation\, asks\, fo
llow-up\, and stewardship. \n\n\n\nIncrease your confidence in moving fro
m planning to real-world donor action.\n\n\n\n\nThese three Implementation
Labs sessions are included with the “Building and Cultivating Major Don
ors for Small- to Mid-Size Nonprofits Series” registration. \n\n\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\nWhat You Will Walk Away With\n\n\n\nBy the end of the series\, you
will leave with more than notes. You will leave with a practical fundrais
ing engine built for immediate execution and long-term sustainability\, in
cluding:  \n\n\n\n\nThe Cultivate Map: a strategic visualization of 30
–50 relationship pathways and connectors within your existing network \
n\n\n\nThe Power 10 Portfolio: a prioritized list of qualified donors con
nected to real funding goals and revenue needs \n\n\n\nCustom Engagement
Designs: tailored plans for moving top prospects from contact to committe
 d investor \n\n\n\nThe Ask Framework: a structured\, confidence-building

than 20 years of experience in nonprofit leadership and fundraising\, sh

\n\n\n\n\nHer work began on the ground in South Africa\, where she foun

s a white person\, holding other white people accountable? How are other w
hite people doing that for you? Racism is a white problem and it is long p
ast time for you all to do your own work!” – Lynette Stallworth \n\n\n
\nThose of us who are white must do our own work around racism and anti-ra
cism. This work is required to truthfully embody an anti-racist identity a
nd interrupt racism where we live and work. This cohort-based 3-part train
ing will bring together leaders who are ready for a deep dive into their o
wn personal anti-racism ideals as well as how they are combating racism in
their work/community spaces. \n\n\n\nThe main learnings and actions will
be around the ideas of decolonization\, intentional allyship\, systems cha
nge\, rest\, and resilience. Enrollment is limited to 20 people to facilit
 ate in-depth reflection\, dialogue\, and relationship building. \n\n\n\nTh
is training is for you if: \n\n\n\n\nYou have taken Diversity\, Inclusion
and Equity trainings and/or done personal study on anti-racism\, white pri

ou are able to commit to all 3 cohort sessions\, as well as some pre- and
post-work for each session\n\n\n\n\nWhat previous cohort members said abou
t this series: \n\n\n\n\n“I’ll be talking about and thinking about the
se sessions with Natalie for the next year and beyond! Her lived experienc
es as well as her ability to communicate ideas about anti-racism are expre
ssed clearly and passionately. She has a calm way of discussing very upset
ting topics. She’s completely inclusive and listens intently.”\n\n\n\n
“I found all of it valuable. I loved interacting with the group and Nata
lie did a great job making sure everyone was involved and their opinions w
ere heard and beliefs shared.”\n\n\n\n\n*Due to the sensitive nature of
this topic\, the workshop will not be recorded so that people can show up
as brave and authentic as possible.* \n\n\n\nSession Dates\n\n\n\n\nSeptem

 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker Information\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNatalie\, a
former middle school choir teacher\, knows there is a song for every emoti
on. After teaching music and leading worship for a couple of decades\, Nat
alie started an anti-racism/pro-love nonprofit and now works for an educat
ion Foundation creating access and opportunity for students. She loves bei
ng with her teenage/early adult children\, making music together\, or play
ing games. A great joy of hers is singing in a community choir. \n\n\n\nNa
 talie’s personal anti-racism statement: I understand that I will never t
ruly know what it is like to be a person of color. Also\, I know that\, as
a white person\, my anti-racism allyship is an important part of the move
ment to ensure all can thrive in our communities through equal access and
opportunity. I will continue to learn and grow\, and I will bring other wh
ite folks along with me on this journey.

DESCRIPTION:In this series of experiential\, online gatherings\, the MBS c
ommunity comes together to explore\, share\, and support the ‘inside’
story of disability.  Living with a disability fosters unique insight and
wisdom\, and this is a forum through which it can be shared.  Each sessi
on presents a conversation theme framed up by our founder Matthew Sanford\
, but collectively discussed within the group at large.  The resulting co
nversations are powerful\, heartfelt\, and helpful.  Each session also fe
atures a yoga practice inspired by the conversation theme.  These gatheri
ngs are intended to revolve around the experience of disability\, but ever
yone is welcome and there is no fee to attend. \n  \nSession Three | Sept

DESCRIPTION:Presented by Yidong Zhou\nAssistant Professor\nSchool of Stati
stics\nUniversity of Minnesota \nAdjusting for confounding and imbalance w
hen establishing statistical relationships is an increasingly important ta
sk\, and causal inference methods have emerged as the most popular tool to
achieve this. Existing methodology has been developed primarily for outco
mes that lie in Euclidean spaces. We introduce here a general framework fo
r causal inference when outcomes reside in general geodesic metric spaces\
, where we draw on a novel geodesic calculus that facilitates scalar multi
plication for geodesics and the quantification of treatment effects throug
h the concept of geodesic average treatment effect. Using ideas from Fréc
het regression\, we obtain a doubly robust estimation of the geodesic aver
age treatment effect and results on consistency and rates of convergence f
or the proposed estimators. We also develop an intrinsic uncertainty quant
ification framework for the treatment effect based on Fréchet objective f
unctions. The proposed framework is illustrated through simulations and re
al data applications\, including network-valued outcomes from New York Cit
y taxi trips to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic\, and compositi
onal data on U.S. state-level energy sources to study the effect of coal m
ining. \nA seminar tea will be held at 2:45 p.m. in University Office Plaz
a\, Room 240. All are Welcome.

DESCRIPTION:Briscoe at Turf Club (Sep 23\, 2026)\n\n\nSeptember 23\, 2026
 Wednesday\n Briscoe\nwith Jack Blocker\nat Turf Club\nfirst-avenue.com\n\n
Briscoe returns to the Twin Cities\, playing the Turf Club\, in St Paul\,
 on September 23\, 2026.\n\n \nWe saw Brisco in August 2024 a
nd wrote\, “ \nBriscoe shares quite a few similarities to Wells Ferrari.
They also started out as a duo and had an immediate musical bond when the
y first met. As Philip Lupton described first meeting Truett Heintzelman:
“I walked into [summer] camp as a 14 year-old redheaded kid who didn’t
know anybody at all\, so I just kept my eyes on the ground. A couple feet
away from me was another person wearing the exact same pair of Chacos as
me\, and when we both looked up\, it felt like we were looking in the mirr
or.” It is striking how similar they look. Most fans think they are bro
thers. There is definitely a fraternal feel\, a musical understanding that
allowed them to quickly form a duo while attending the University of Texa
 s at Austin\, taking classes\, playing backyards\, living rooms\, country
clubs\, any venue that would have them while seeking solitude and inspirat
ion in the Hill Country just west of Austin\, even finding time to record
their first album\, West of It All\, before graduating. Lupton and Heintze
lman have had a busy summer\, playing music festivals like Newport and Lol
lapalooza. They have a touring band with Andrew Read on drums\, John Clove
r on Keys and Mitchel Musso on bass\, which has helped stretch their music
al sensibilities with the two things I have never seen on a stage.”\n\n\

DESCRIPTION:MN VR and HCI monthly meeting for Sept 2026: Jetpack Clankers
presented by Paul Christian\, and new XR Hardware overview by Zach Wendt\n
\n\nNew XR Hardware – Zach Wendt \nThe annual Meta Connect conference st
arts hours before our Sept meeting\, so we’ll have first-hand details fr
om RJ White and Matt Foreman in Oct. I’ll just do a quick overview of th
e new Meta XR announcements and headset\, and new headsets from Valve\, Pi
co and others that will be announced before Connect. \nJetpack Clankers: R
acing\, Robots\, and Reckless Locomotion – Paul Christian \nJetpack Clan
kers started as a jetpack locomotion add-on inside Wooorld. It was fun eno
ugh that we eventually asked: what if we built a whole game around it? \nT
his talk traces that evolution\, from early experiments inside Wooorld to
a standalone free social VR world built for racing\, Clankball\, combat\,
basketball\, music\, toys\, and general chaos. I’ll get into some of the
technical and design decisions along the way\, including how we represent
the player avatar in a way that gracefully reflects the actual physical i
nterface between human input and the game environment\, rather than trying
to infer a full body that the system cannot really observe. I’ll also c
over building a kilometer-wide environment that can still run on Quest\, c
ustom shaders and procedural audio synthesis\, multiplayer physics with No
rmcore\, avatar motion recording and playback\, and our emerging “Clankb
rain” companion bots. \nI’ll also talk about deliberately embracing fa
st\, extreme VR locomotion in a medium that often tries to avoid it. Top s
peeds in Jetpack Clankers reach around 500 km/h\, and rather than smoothin
g that away\, we built around the sensation of speed and the audience that
actually wants that kind of experience. \n \nSchedule: \n\n6:30 Social an
 d setup\n7:00 Kickoff / announcements\n7:15 Zach\n7:30 Paul\n~8:45 Tear-do
 wn\, cross the sidewalk to Yardhouse\n\n \nAttending and Parking: \nThis e
vent will be in person at the REM5 STUDIOS new office in West End and the
presentation will be streamed live at https://www.youtube.com/igdatc \nPar
k underground and take the central red elevator to ground level\, then cro

out MN VR and HCI: \nMN VR and HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) welcomes d
evelopers\, tinkerers and enthusiasts working with all variety of VR\, AR\
, HCI\, hardware hacking\, creative coding and interactive art. Members ar
e working on projects with custom displays and lenses\, projection mapping
 \, mocap\, tiny computers\, servos and sensors\, interactive art and a wid
e variety of VR\, AR\, motion and computer vision applications. If you’v

DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 6:45 PM for Dinner and Drink service.\n\n\nCandi
Jenkins is an up-and-coming roots artist making a name for herself with c
lassic yet modern songwriting that blends traditional country\, Appalachia
 n bluegrass\, and Americana. As Candi puts it\, “I couldn’t find the t
ype of country I wanted to hear\, so I started making it myself.” \nThou
gh she claims Lexington\, Kentucky as home\, her roots also stretch throug
 h Louisville\, southern Indiana\, Canada\, and Southeastern Kentucky. Afte
r moving to Kentucky\, Candi found a deeper connection to her Appalachian
heritage\, saying\, “Appalachian music is in my blood in a way that is b
eyond surroundings. It is a part of me.” She explores that connection in
her song “God Don’t Care.” \nCandi has quickly built momentum on th
e road\, opening for acts like Clay Street Unit and Andy Frasco\, with upc
oming shows alongside Benjamin Tod. She appeared at South by Southwest in
2025 and Luck Reunion in 2026. \nCurrently\, Candi is recording her debut
album with Andrija Tokic at The Bomb Shelter. New music from the record is
set to be released this summer. \nWith a growing social media presence\,
prolific songwriting\, and magnetic live performances\, Candi Jenkins is s
teadily building a loyal fanbase and emerging as a fresh voice in modern r
oots music. \nwww.candijenkins.com\nOver the past two years\, country-folk
artist Thomas Sticha has blazed his own trail in the Midwest music scene.
His unique blend of country and folk showcases beautiful imagery\, catchy
hooks\, and clever turns of storylines that will surely keep folks guessi
ng. With four new singles in 2025\, two in 2026\, and plenty more on the w
ay\, Thomas and his band are positioned well to break out as an emerging M
 idwest country-folk act in 2026. \nwww.thomassticha.com
