Add-On Ticket Holders. Doors open for Regular Ticket Holders at 6:00 PM.\n
\n\nJoin The Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society as we celebrate ten ye
ars of mystery\, suspense\, and old-time radio with an evening of live eve
nts marking the Society’s tenth anniversary. It’s an “entertaining a
nd creepy homage to an era gone by” (Cherry and Spoon)\, brought to life
by veteran Twin Cities performers Shanan Custer\, Joshua English Scrimsha
w\, Tim Uren\, and Eric Webster\, “using their voices to paint a picture
so vivid that if you close your eyes\, you can see the action in your min
d’s eye” (Stages of Minnesota). \n4:00 PM – Meet and Greet (with th
e purchase of the VIP Add-On) A casual opportunity to mingle with the host
s of The Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society. Join Eric\, Tim\, Joshua\
, and Shanan for conversation\, memories\, and celebration with fellow fan
s of mysterious old-time radio. \n5:00 PM – “The Best and Worst of Ten
Years” (with the purchase of the VIP Add-On) (Live Podcast Recording) A
special live recording looking back on a decade of the podcast. Featuring
stories from the Society’s history\, special guests\, and the presentat
ion of awards recognizing the best and worst old-time radio programs discu
 ssed during the show’s ten-year run. \n7:00 PM – Live Old-Time Radio P
erformance The Society presents an evening inspired by Minnesota native Al
onzo Deen Cole’s groundbreaking horror radio series The Witch’s Tale!
Created in the 1930’s\, the show blended Cole’s imagination and chaoti
c production style to create iconic stories that have endured for nearly a
century. Old Nancy\, the iconic host of The Witch’s Tale\, provided ins
piration for the countless horror hosts that would follow.  \nThe evening
features a recreation of a vintage episode of The Witch’s Tale\, perfor
med in the style of an old-time radio broadcast with live sound effects\,
music\, and period atmosphere. Paired with the historic script is “Alonz
o and the Witch” an original radio play by Tim Uren\, imagining the back
stage “dramedy” surrounding a Witch’s Tale production as cast and cr
ew scramble to survive the loss of a core cast member and the unpredictabl
e genius of Alonzo Deen Cole as they bring one of his eerie tales to life.
\nThe Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society performed their first stag
ed old-time radio recreation in 2016 at the Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater in Mi
nneapolis. Since then\, they have appeared at the Minnesota Fringe Festiva
l\, Daleko Arts in New Prague\, the Wabasha Street Caves in Saint Paul\, a
nd The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson\, Wisconsin. Their recreations
were also featured monthly from 2017 to 2019 at the James J. Hill Center
and from 2020 to 2022 at Park Square Theater in Saint Paul. Currently\, th
e MORLS can be seen regularly at Crooners Supper Club in Minneapolis. \nTh
e Society’s live performances are inspired by the podcast of the same na
me. The Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society Podcast revisits the great
crime\, horror and suspense programs from the golden age of radio\, includ
ing tales from Suspense\, Lights Out\, Quiet Please\, The Shadow\, and mor
 e. Each episode features a classic or maybe-not-so classic story from the
mysterious old-time radio vault\, complete with historical notes and trivi
 a. At the end of each podcast\, your hosts\, Tim\, Joshua and Eric discuss
the merits of the story and decide whether or not it stands the test of t
ime. \n“An artisanal\, old-school way of making entertainment… The fun
is in watching these fine actors work almost exclusively with their voice

: AccordionMatt Blake: Upright Bass \nThe Ryan Picone Quartet stands at th
e crossroads of tradition and imagination — where the timeless swing of
Django Reinhardt meets the colors and rhythms of the world. Guided by his
mentor Stéphane Wrembel\, guitarist and composer Ryan Picone weaves a sou
nd that is at once rooted and restless\, drawing from Rumba Flamenca\, Cho
 ro\, Cuban\, Indian Classical\, Post-Minimalist\, and Classical traditions
. In 2025\, the Quartet not only celebrated its expanding vision by featur
ing the world-renowned Sinti guitarist Paulus Schafer\, but also on July 2
5\, 2025 brought together 14 Twin Cities musicians for the first Twin Citi

m—set for release in Fall 2026—the ensemble continues to blur boundari
es between jazz and world music\, crafting a sound that feels both timeles
s and entirely new. \nReview by author\, Michael Dregni. “Swinging\, sen

A Classic Jazz Quintet interprets the music of Chuck Mangione\nJazz trumpe
ter Steve Kenny and The Steve Kenny Quintet present a powerful celebration
of the music and legacy of Chuck Mangione in a special tribute honoring t
he recently departed jazz icon. Far more than a nostalgia show\, this perf
ormance reimagines Mangione’s beloved catalog through the lens of fearle
ss modern jazz improvisation and deep musical storytelling. From soaring m
elodies and cinematic grooves to the infectious spirit that made his music
resonate across generations\, the quintet will reveal why these compositi
ons deserve a lasting place in the jazz canon alongside the great standard
 s. Audiences will hear fresh\, adventurous interpretations of Mangione cla
ssics — music that stretches far beyond the familiar radio hits into ric
hly layered\, emotionally charged\, and creatively expansive territory. Ex
pect vibrant interplay\, inspired solos\, unexpected turns\, and the unmis
takable joy and humanity that made Chuck Mangione’s music timeless. This
is both a heartfelt tribute and a bold artistic exploration — honoring
the spirit of a jazz legend while bringing his music thrillingly alive for
today’s listeners. \nSteve Kenny: TrumpetDave Brattain: SaxophonesBryan
Nichols: KeyboardsDan Carpel: BassMiguel Hurtado: Drums \nJazz trumpeter\
, composer\, and curator Steve Kenny has long been one of the driving crea
tive forces in the Minnesota jazz community. A fearless improviser and vis
ionary bandleader\, Kenny is known for performances that balance deep resp
ect for the jazz tradition with adventurous\, modern artistic exploration.
He is a founding member of acclaimed ensembles including the illicit sext
et\, Group 47\, and What Would Monk Do?\, while also leading his own celeb
rated quartets and quintets featuring many of the Twin Cities’ most soug
ht-after jazz musicians. \nBeyond the bandstand\, Kenny has played a major
role in shaping the regional jazz scene as curator of weekly Saturday jaz
z series at both kj’s hideaway and the historic Black Dog Cafe\, produci
ng more than 400 live Saturday night jazz performances and helping cultiva
te one of the Midwest’s most vibrant jazz communities. In recognition of
his lifelong dedication to the music\, the Jazz Journalists Association n
amed him a “Minnesota Jazz Hero” in 2019. \nAs a recording artist\, Ke
nny continues to push creative boundaries. His 2020 release Quartets on Sh
ifting Paradigm Records showcased original compositions performed by four
distinct ensembles of Twin Cities improvisers. In 2025\, he followed with
the acclaimed Blue Chunks\, celebrated with a release performance at Dakot
a Jazz Club. The project explored Kenny’s innovative concept of assembli
ng smaller musical “chunks” into larger suite-like forms\, further cem
enting his reputation as a composer unafraid to challenge convention while
remaining deeply rooted in the language of jazz. \nThe ensemble assembled
for this special tribute to Chuck Mangione draws from the same elite core
of first-call musicians Kenny has featured in multiple sold-out performan
ces dedicated to the music of John Coltrane as well as concerts centered o
n Kenny’s own original works. That shared musical history gives this per
formance extraordinary depth\, chemistry\, and artistic trust.Rather than
simply recreating familiar radio hits\, this concert reimagines Mangione
’s beloved music through the lens of serious small-group jazz artistry
 — alive with daring improvisation\, emotional nuance\, and expansive mus
ical conversation. The result promises to be both a heartfelt celebration
of Mangione’s legacy and a thrilling exploration of how his compositions
stand alongside the great modern jazz standards: timeless\, sophisticated
\, joyful\, and endlessly open to reinvention.
