DESCRIPTION:The HWAITING (화이팅) Open Stage is a vibrant open mic even
t held at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn in Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. It was laun
ched by City Youth Martial Arts (CYMA) as a fundraiser and community engag
ement project\, with the first event taking place in September 2024. The e
vent is hosted by Marika Holbusz\, a singer-songwriter and martial artist\
, as part of her community service project for her second-degree black bel
 t. \nHWAITING Open Stage serves multiple purposes: it provides a platform
 for poets\, musicians\, dancers\, comedians\, mimes\, magicians\, and othe
r performers to showcase their talents\, while also raising funds and awar
eness for CYMA. The nonprofit offers pay-what-you-can Taekwondo classes to
  Milwaukee youth\, promoting leadership\, confidence\, discipline\, and ph
ysical fitness. The event also emphasizes community support\, often includ
ing food drives and other charitable activities. \nEvent Format \nDoors op
en: Typically in the evening\, with sign-up lists for performers available
upon arrival. \nPerformances: Open mic slots allow local artists to perfo
rm\, with featured performers highlighted during the event. \nAudience: Op
en to anyone interested in enjoying live performances or supporting local
youth programs. \nCultural Significance \nThe name HWAITING (화이팅) is
a Korean term used to offer encouragement and luck\, reflecting the marti
al arts roots of the organizing nonprofit. The event has become a much-ant
icipated fixture in Milwaukee’s arts scene\, celebrating creativity whil
e fostering community engagement and youth empowerment. \nParticipation \n
Anyone can participate\, whether performing or attending. Donations at the
door support CYMA’s programs\, ensuring that martial arts education rem
ains accessible to all city youth. The event is recurring\, often celebrat
ed with special anniversaries and themed performances. \nHWAITING Open Sta
ge is therefore not just an open mic—it is a community-driven celebratio
n of the arts and youth development\, blending performance\, culture\, and
  social impact in Milwaukee.

DESCRIPTION:Winston Churchill\, has just been awarded honorary US citizen
ship by President John F. Kennedy. In recognition of this unprecedented oc
casion\, The American-Oxford Society has asked the former Prime Minister t
o address them and discuss what this honor means to him.  \nIn this often
funny\, sometimes touching and always engaging one-man-show… veteran Br
itish actor David Payne brings Churchill to life onstage. Audiences will b
e delighted to hear of his exploits during the Boer War\, his constant bat
tles with Britain’s fellow politicians\, and his special relationship wi
th America and America’s presidents. But most telling of all\, Churchill
enlightens the audience with intimate and touching details of the two spe
cial women in his life—his wife Clementine and Queen Elizabeth.  \nWith
elements of The Crown and The Darkest Hour\, David Payne once again gives
audiences an opportunity to spend an evening with one of the greatest his
torical figures in the world—Sir Winston Churchill.

DESCRIPTION:She lives fast\, loves freely\, and throws a better party than
anyone in Paris. But beneath the champagne and charm\, Violetta knows her
days in the spotlight won’t last forever. When she dares to trade ple
 asure for true love\, society—and Alfredo’s very proper family—are q
uick to remind her just how unforgiving Paris can be. \nVerdi’s La Travi
ata is all romance\, sacrifice\, and a story where “happily ever after
” takes a hard pass. \nAt a Glance Blurb: She lives fast and loves freel
y\, but Violetta’s time is running out. Trading pleasure for true love
sets her on a collision course with a judgmental society. Experience Verdi
’s La Traviata—where “happily ever after” isn’t part of the pr
ogram. \nBonus Content: \nPre Opera Talk: Featuring head of music and educ

Convocation and how is it different than Commencement?\n\n\nThis special c
eremony is an opportunity for Faculty & Staff in the Peck School of the Ar
ts to recognize students who are graduating with bachelor and master’s d
egrees. The event was established in response to student requests and prec
edes the large UWM Commencement. We encourage you to attend both ceremonie
 s. \nThe convocation ceremony begins with a procession of graduating stude
nts into the Bader Concert Hall. Students are seated on stage with the Dea
n and Department Chairs. There will be an address with opening remarks and
all graduates being recognized. Students will be called up by department\
, with each department introduced by a selection of work representing thei
r discipline. When your department is standing\, you will be called by nam
e to walk across the stage and receive your stole (a piece of academic reg
alia\, much like a long scarf\, that you can wear with your cap and gown t
o the campus-wide Commencement ceremony). After the closing remarks and re
cessional\, everyone crosses the lobby to Zelazo 280 for a dessert recepti
on. \n\n\nIs the event in-person or virtual?\n\n\nPSOA Convocation is an i
n-person event\, which will also be live-streamed for those who cannot att
end in person. \n\n\nWho should participate?\n\n\nAll Peck School of the A
rts students who have graduated or will be graduating by any of the dates
listed above along with friends and family of graduating students are welc
ome to attend. \n\n\nDoes it cost anything?\n\n\nThe event is free. Ticket
s are not required\, but we do appreciate that you RSVP so we can best pla
n for your enjoyment. \n\n\nCan I invite my family and friends?\n\n\nDefin
itely! You will receive an email invitation to the Peck School of the Arts
Graduation Convocation in early April. Feel free to pass it along to frie
nds to attend in-person or online. \n\n\nHow many guests may I bring?\n\n\
nYou may bring as many guests as you like. Please RSVP with the total numb
er of in-person attendees so we can plan accordingly. \n\n\nWhat should I
wear?\n\n\nThere is no dress code for this event. You are welcome to wear
your cap and gown but most students simply wear business attire.
