DESCRIPTION:Margo Kirchner\, Executive Director of Wisconsin Justice Initi
ative \nWisconsin’s Legislature keeps sending constitutional amendment q
uestions to voters. The ballot questions can be vague\, confusing\, or eve
n misleading\, and the Wisconsin Supreme Court has said that’s OK. As a
result\, voters need to prepare in advance to understand the proposed chan
ges. This November\, voters will find three constitutional amendment questi
ons on the ballot. One concerns religious gatherings during health emergen
cies\, one concerns the governor’s partial veto power\, and one concerns
government’s ability to address inequity. You’ll leave this talk with
some guidelines for considering amendment ballot questions generally and
with information regarding these three proposed amendments specifically. \

Forum lecture series has showcased provocative\, sometimes controversial\,
speakers discussing topical issues of the day: politics\, the environment
\, health issues\, the arts\, education\, and more. The Sunday Forum is he
ld at 10:00 a.m. September through May. Speakers give a 45-minute presenta
tion\, followed by questions and brief comments from the audience. The con
tent of Forum lectures does not necessarily express the viewpoint of First
Unitarian Society of Milwaukee\, but are meant to offer thoughtful topics
which our members often pursue further on their own.
