DESCRIPTION:Federal & State Team is a monthly working group for climate ad
vocates who want to engage directly in the policy process. Participants co
me together to track state and federal climate-related legislation\, under
stand what’s moving through the legislative pipeline\, and assess propos
als based on their climate\, health\, and community impacts. \n\n\n\nEach
meeting includes shared learning about current bills and regulatory action
s\, followed by collaborative drafting of public comments and testimony in
support of—or opposition to—specific proposals. These comments are su
bmitted at the state level throughout the legislative session and at the f
ederal level as opportunities arise. \n\n\n\nThis group is intentionally w
elcoming to newcomers. No prior policy experience is required. It’s a pr
actical\, collective space to turn concern into coordinated civic action.
 \n\n\n\nFor information contact Alan Journet.

DESCRIPTION:Sustaining Climate Activists is a monthly gathering dedicated
to the people doing the work. Climate action is long-term work\, and the e
motional weight of that work—eco-anxiety\, grief\, burnout\, and overwhe
lm—is real. \n\n\n\nThis free\, facilitated space brings together climat
e-engaged community members for connection\, reflection\, and practical su
pport. Each session blends informal social time with accessible tools for
mental resilience\, along with space to share experiences\, challenges\, a
nd strategies for staying engaged without burning out. \n\n\n\nWith an int
entionally small group (typically around 12 participants)\, the gathering
offers a supportive\, grounded environment where activists can recharge\,
feel less alone\, and build practices that make sustained action possible.
Because caring for the movement means caring for the people within it. \n
\n\n\nAll are welcome. No cost to attend. \n\n\n\nContact Ken for detail
s and to confirm the location for a specific month. Contact Ken (ken@socan

DESCRIPTION:One of the natural assets most valued by Oregonians who cheris
h this beautiful state is our forested lands. Regrettably\, these forests
are challenged by the interconnected threats of a changing climate and inc
reasing wildfire risk. Fortunately\, efforts are underway to manage our fo
rests in such a way as to reduce the impact of these trends. Southern Oreg
on Forest Restoration Collaborative (SOFRC) assisted by several other regi
onal organizations locally is leading the way in addressing the SW Oregon
forest management issue. \n\n\n\nSOFRC Executive Director Terry Fairbanks\
, who has many years of forestry and silviculture experience with the USFS
and BLM\, will be featured at the Southern Oregon Climate Action Now mont
 hly general meeting on Tuesday September 29th from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at t
he Medford Public Library. Terry will discuss what SOFRC and associates ar
e doing in the region to promote forest management that minimizes risks an
d promotes forest health as global warming continues to drive a changing c
limate. \n\n\n\nTopics Terry will address include: \n\n\n\n\nHow southwest
Oregon’s dry forests need active management to stay healthy in a hotter
\, drier climate.\n\n\n\nHow “ecological forestry” retains large\, old
\, fire-resistant trees while restoring resilience.  \n\n\n\nHow the Rog
ue Basin Strategy applies ecological principles across the basin in an eff
ort to reduce wildfire and the risk to homes.\n\n\n\nManagement to keep ca
rbon stable and concentrated in large\, fire-resistant trees – rather th
an in dense stands likely to be lost to severe wildfire. \n\n\n\nHow the
Rogue Forest Partners are working on the ground across the Rogue Basin to
promote heathy regional forests.\n\n\n\n\nThis meeting will be in-person o
nly. \n\n\n\nSOCAN’s general meetings are free and open to the public. T
here is no charge for attending. \n\n\n\nThis meeting is not sponsored no
r endorsed by Jackson County Library Services
