DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of artist David Mngodo’s e
 xhibit\, Be Still\, at Holy Wisdom Monastery on Friday\, October 2\, 2026 
 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Mngodo is a self-taught artist whose abstract painting
 s in acrylics invite the observer to see things we encounter every day in 
 a brand-new way. When painting animals and birds\, his use of color and n
 egative space tell a story and evoke deep feelings for the subject. Light 
 refreshments will be served at the reception and David will talk about his
  art at 6:30 pm. \nSchedule\n\n6:00 pm – Reception opens. Light refreshm
 ents are available and the artist is available for conversation\n6:30 pm 
 – David Mngodo will talk about his art and participants are welcome to a
 sk questions\n8:00 pm – Receptions ends.\n\nThe exhibit is on display in
  the Monastery Gathering Area from September 22 – November 18\, 2026. Ga
 llery hours are Tuesday – Friday\, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (excluding holida
 ys) and Sunday 10:00 – 11:00 am. \nAbout the Artist – David Mngodo \n
 Artist David Mngodo was born in Tanzania and moved to the U.S. in 1999. Al
 though he is largely self-taught\, David graduated from the School of Desi
 gn and Technology through Collins College in Tempe\, Arizona\, and an art 
 instructional school in Minnesota. In addition to being an artist\, David 
 is a senior pastor for East Wind Ministries based in DeForest\, Wisconsin\
 , and is earning his master’s degree in ministry through N2N University 
 in Harlingen\, Texas. \nRegistration\nThis event is free to attend. We ask

  reminders to notice and integrate past growth\, honoring it for its role 
 in nurturing future growth. This fall retreat invites you to pause and mar
 k transitions – on the prairie and in your own life and heart. It will 
 hold space for attention to both. \nConversations about the season\, walks
  on the prairie\, naps\, art\, movement\, journaling\, great meals and wel
 coming accommodations will all be a part of what you can expect when you a

  for colored pencils\, gel pens\, watercolors\, paper and whatever else th
 at feels right for you\, because it’s time to find your own meditative s
 tate and then create.\n\n\\*Note: This is not an art class with instructio
 n but a space for creative activity that is within your current range and 
 abilities. There will be some instructive prompts on how to establish a me
 ditative attitude for the time that you are in the space.\n\nThis ongoing 
 monthly group is as much a personal creative activity as it is chance to p
 ick up on techniques and methods from other creators. This is a supportive
  group where you bring a can do and inventive attitude for the purpose of 
 unwinding into what is usually a fun and easygoing activity. Participants 
 are encouraged to do their own research on the history of Mandalas and the
  symbols and patterns that are often utilized when creating one.\n\nThis g
 roup\, while somewhat informal will include discussion prompts from the bo
 ok "The Artist's Way" by Julian Cameron and other similar sources.\n\nJere
 my Anacker\, lifelong artist and sound healer will facilitate the group ac
 tivity with the use of singing bowls and other supportive sounds.\n\nRecom
