ful and unpredictable—inviting us to consider our own relationship with
this essential element as we face climatic extremes throughout the world.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Japanese Garden at Desca
nso Gardens by exploring imaginative ikebana displays—the traditional Ja
panese art of flower arranging that reflects harmony\, balance\, and an ap
preciation for the fleeting beauty of nature. \nThe exhibition is open in

. \nEntry is included in the price of admission or membership. \n\nInspire

invites visitors to experience a deeper sense of calm\, rhythm\, and conn

hibition highlights Sogetsu Ikebana\, a style rooted in centuries-old trad
ition and redefined as a practice for the modern era with the belief that
ikebana can be created anytime\, anywhere\, by anyone. \nThis philosophy m
oved the art beyond the confines of tearooms and temples\, encouraging exp
erimentation\, personal expression\, and the use of unconventional materia
ls such as metal\, glass\, stone\, and everyday objects. The result is a d
ynamic\, living art form that seamlessly connects tradition with innovatio

connected with the AFC community\, interviewing volunteers\, leading resto
ration and community events\, and working with students throughout the yea
r on field trips. She also showed a keen interest in advocacy\, representi
ng AFC in Washington D.C. and diving into our policy work. We’re thrille
d that Daniela has decided to stay on for another year of fellowship with
AFC! Please read Daniela’s reflection on her time with AFC so far.
 			\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n MY YEAR
 WITH AFC \n \n \n \n \n \n
 \n \n \n \n \n \n Daniela Gal
 vez \n \n \n \n \n Eleven months ago\, I joined th
e California Climate Action Corps (CCAC) fellowship program at Arroyos & F
oothills Conservancy (AFC). As I reflect\, I am filled with gratitude for
having experienced a year of professional and personal growth. AFC greatly
shaped my values and my relationship to my local community. From the conn
ections I made\, the acres of land I restored\, and the community events I
led\, I’ve never felt so hopeful for what lies ahead for the future of
conservation in our city.  Prior to the start of the fellowship\, I had r
ecently graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a degree in Earth Science. I had
worked in different areas of environmental fields such as scientific rese
arch\, habitat restoration\, and environmental advocacy. However\, by the
end of college\, I felt I was at a crossroads in committing to a single ca
reer path. My dilemma grew more complicated as my first post-college job a
s a teacher’s assistant led me to discover that I also loved working wit
 h youth. Decisions\, decisions. Eventually\, I landed on CCAC’s website
to find AFC. I saw a fantastic mission to join and an opportunity to conti
 nue exploring all my fields of interest.  								\n \n \n \n \n
 	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
 																									\n \n \n \n
 	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
\n \n \n The most rewarding part of the fellowship was co-l
eading AFC’s field trip program in which I helped educate over 3\,000 st
udents during 89 field trips at the Rosemont Preserve. It was a pleasure t
o work alongside so many dedicated volunteer docents whose commitment to v
olunteering and nature education was inspiring. I’m grateful to these vo
lunteers that make the programming possible. I also found working on AFC
’s Preserves to be incredibly fulfilling. As I watched the land transfor
m through each season\, I found myself growing alongside it. I’ve become
attuned to the fauna and flora that blanket Los Angeles’ foothills\, di
scovering that the city is far more vibrant and biodiverse than I ever rea
lized. On weekends\, I would co-lead AFC’s habitat restoration events in
which I met so many Angelenos who were eager to support their local lands
. There’s nothing better than sharing conversation over a morning of pul
ling out invasive Mustard.    Restoration work is only possible when com
munities feel welcomed and empowered to take care of the land around them.
A trip to Washington D.C. as a representative of AFC\, showed me the same
community-driven values on the national stage as I saw within our communi
ty here in Los Angeles. Meeting with land trusts across the country to adv
ocate for policies supporting conservation reinforced the importance of wo
rking together. Ultimately\, this fellowship taught me that meaningful\, i
mpactful conservation happens through the collective effort of people at e
 very level. \n \n \n \n \n \n
 				\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
 		\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
\n Being a part of the team at AFC has been a rewarding\, collab
orative effort. Together\, we have accomplished many of our goals and outr
eached to hundreds of community residents.  I’m thankful for the AFC st
aff who took the time to share their work across programs\, research\, com
munications\, land acquisition\, and land management. The skills and persp
ectives I’ve learned are invaluable and I look forward to carrying them
through future opportunities.  \nLooking ahead\, I’m excited to share t
hat I’ll be returning to AFC for a second year! I’d like to continue d
eveloping my program management and field-based skills. For now\, I’m lo
oking forward to spending the summer reading up on Southern California eco
logy to prepare for next school year’s field trip season.

DESCRIPTION:Featured in High Times: Pineapple Surprize Steps Into the Spot
 light\n \n \n \n \n We have some massive news to share
with the THC Design family! High Times editor and cannabis journalist Dav
id Downs just dropped his Strains of the Month for September 2026 (in his
famous Terp Sherpa column)\, and Pineapple Surprize officially made the cu
 t. Being highlighted by High Times is always an honor\, but seeing the lov
e for Pineapple Surprize after all the passion our cultivation team poured
into perfecting this strain makes it extra sweet. \n \n \n
 			\n What High Times Had to Say \n \n \n \n True
pineapple terpenes are notoriously hard to capture in cannabis\, often lea
ning too thin or grassy. In his review\, Downs noted how rare it is to fin
d legitimate\, vintage pineapple flavors done right\, praising the strain
’s ocimene-rich profile: “The team at THC Design… have pulled it off
with the debut of their Pineapple Surprize. …it’s real\, vintage pine
apple weed… full of the awesome terpene ocimene\, and one to grab if you
’re a sativa-lover longing for something more than Jack Herer. Smoke it
and do some yoga or hop on that Peloton.” — David Downs\, High Times
 							\n \n \n \n Meet Pineapple Surprize: Your Sun-Drenched
  State of Mind \n \n \n \n If you haven’t cracked op
en a jar of Pineapple Surprize yet\, consider this your official invitatio
 n. Crossed from classic Hawaiian Sativa × Skunk #1\, this sativa-dominant
flower is a sun-soaked escape in every bowl. The second you break open th
e seal\, you’re greeted with an unmistakable burst of bright tropical pi
neapple\, zesty citrus\, and a subtle layer of skunky earthiness. The Flav
or ProfileOn the inhale\, juicy notes of ripe mango and tangy citrus seaml
essly blend into a smooth herbal spice finish\, balanced by just a hint of
woody depth. Terpenes & EffectsDriven by a powerful terpene profile featu
 ring β-Myrcene\, β-Caryophyllene\, and α-Humulene\, Pineapple Surprize
delivers an immediate\, uplifting spark. The effects kick in fast—bringi
