 aign\, has raised over $13 million for 450+ local nonprofits since 2019\, 
 including many based in Downtown. It’s back this year\, starting with a 
 Sept. 17 launch party and culminating in a 24-hour giving day on Sept. 24.
  \nPrivate donations are appreciated more than ever as federal funding for
  nonprofits shrinks nationwide. A contribution to a Downtown nonprofit cou
 ld support a weekly neighborhood farmers market\, provide free eye exams t
 o youth in need\, give a safe space and a hot meal to those less fortunate
 \, and enable artists\, journalists\, and broadcasters to inform the commu

 Resilience and Reflection\n\n\nThrough a series of installations reflectin
 g an early twentieth‑century barrio\, Seeds of Resilience: Barrio Ameri
 cano centers Mexican American histories by exploring everyday spaces that
  fostered community\, cultural preservation\, and continued resistance in 
 the face of discrimination. Barrio Americano offers insight into how peopl
 e organized their lives\, supported one another\, and asserted dignity wit
 hin challenging social and economic conditions.\n\nThis exhibition reflect
 s Rancho Los Cerritos’ ongoing commitment to sharing inclusive histories
  and creating space for learning and dialogue across generations. It also 
 contributes to a citywide reflection on the 250th anniversary of the Decla
 ration of Independence through the shared Seeds of Resilience initiative\,
  with partner institutions presenting complementary exhibitions exploring 
 the region’s histories in 2026.\n\n\nMore Info\n\nHortencia Nieto\, an A
 merican citizen\, was sent to Mexico in 1932 when she was just two years o
 ld. The youngest of five children\, she and her family were left in the in
 terior of Mexico in the middle of the night. She was unable to return to t
 he U.S. until 1944. Nieto became a resident of Long Beach\, and in 2008\, 
 she bravely shared her story. Her oral history is now a part of Rancho’s
  current exhibition\, Seeds of Resilience: Barrio Americano.\n\nListen to
