DESCRIPTION:Flesh&Edibles speaks directly to the intersection of culinary
culture\nand physical vulnerability-themes right at the heart of my profes
sional\nbackground. At the same time\, Flesh&Edibles is a visual explorati
on of how\nFood we consume directly alters our physique\, minds and how we
\nare perceived by our society. \nMy collection was perceived a long time
ago even before I went to college.\nIt explicitly illustrates the diverse
shapes and physical transformations of\nThe human form based on the bioche
mical and psychological effects of\nsustenance. It’s a personal project
as I was afflicted with an environmental\nmalady since 2020.\nThis subject
is not theoretical for me. It’s a lifetime archive of personal survival
.\nI have been deeply conscious of what enters my body since I was 12 year
 s old\nDue to a heart condition since I was 12.\nMost recently\, my practi
ce took some harrowing turn in 2021.\nLead Toxicity affected my profession
as well as my whole well-being.\nThis art exhibition act as a retrospecti
ve of lifelong relationship with bodily\naesthetics and better nutrition.\
nI chose to illustrate mostly the beautiful and artistic work.\nI selected
to showcase a cohesive body of work for your eyes only.\nActually\, I hav
e been “conceiving” these images since the late 1990’s.\nThese are m
ostly on the aesthetic sort of views which could be based\non someone’s
 experiences. \nLinda Estrela Ikeda

DESCRIPTION:The Long Beach QFilm Festival (QFilms) is the longest-running
film festival in Southern Los Angeles\, and the only festival in the area
dedicated to screening films showcasing the stories and diversity of the L
GBTQ+ community and increasing visibility for independent LGBTQ+ and allie
d filmmakers. \nQFilms’ inception stems from the inspiration experienced
by QFilms founder Robert Cano after participating in the historic 1993 Ma
rch on Washington for Lesbian\, Gay\, and Bi Equal Rights and Liberation.
With seed money provided by The LGBTQ Center Long Beach\, the inaugural fe
stival took place in June 1993 in the Student Union at California State Un
iversity Long Beach to a sold-out crowd. Since then\, QFilms has screened
more than 300 films from over 30 countries. In the years since QFilms’ f
ounding\, the festival has grown to a multi-event experience featuring rec
eptions and community building opportunities to further strengthen our loc
al LGBTQ+ communities. \nEach year\, the festival screens more than 50 fi
lms\, with approximately 10 feature films and more than 40 short films gro
uped by target demographic. Films are screened at the Art Theatre of Long
Beach\, one of the oldest movie theatres in Long Beach. Many films include
post-screening Q&A discussions with filmmakers. Audiences also vote on th
eir favorite films throughout the festival. Receptions are hosted each nig
ht at The Center\, allowing audiences to engage socially with The Center a
