Resilience and Reflection\n\n\nThrough a series of installations reflectin
g an early twentieth‑century barrio\, Seeds of Resilience: Barrio Ameri
cano centers Mexican American histories by exploring everyday spaces that
fostered community\, cultural preservation\, and continued resistance in
the face of discrimination. Barrio Americano offers insight into how peopl
e organized their lives\, supported one another\, and asserted dignity wit
hin challenging social and economic conditions.\n\nThis exhibition reflect
s Rancho Los Cerritos’ ongoing commitment to sharing inclusive histories
and creating space for learning and dialogue across generations. It also
contributes to a citywide reflection on the 250th anniversary of the Decla
ration of Independence through the shared Seeds of Resilience initiative\,
with partner institutions presenting complementary exhibitions exploring
 the region’s histories in 2026.\n\n\nMore Info\n\nHortencia Nieto\, an A
merican citizen\, was sent to Mexico in 1932 when she was just two years o
ld. The youngest of five children\, she and her family were left in the in
terior of Mexico in the middle of the night. She was unable to return to t
he U.S. until 1944. Nieto became a resident of Long Beach\, and in 2008\,
she bravely shared her story. Her oral history is now a part of Rancho’s
current exhibition\, Seeds of Resilience: Barrio Americano.\n\nListen to

DESCRIPTION:Flesh&Edibles speaks directly to the intersection of culinary
culture\nand physical vulnerability-themes right at the heart of my profes
sional\nbackground. At the same time\, Flesh&Edibles is a visual explorati
on of how\nFood we consume directly alters our physique\, minds and how we
\nare perceived by our society. \nMy collection was perceived a long time
ago even before I went to college.\nIt explicitly illustrates the diverse
shapes and physical transformations of\nThe human form based on the bioche
mical and psychological effects of\nsustenance. It’s a personal project
as I was afflicted with an environmental\nmalady since 2020.\nThis subject
is not theoretical for me. It’s a lifetime archive of personal survival
.\nI have been deeply conscious of what enters my body since I was 12 year
 s old\nDue to a heart condition since I was 12.\nMost recently\, my practi
ce took some harrowing turn in 2021.\nLead Toxicity affected my profession
as well as my whole well-being.\nThis art exhibition act as a retrospecti
ve of lifelong relationship with bodily\naesthetics and better nutrition.\
nI chose to illustrate mostly the beautiful and artistic work.\nI selected
to showcase a cohesive body of work for your eyes only.\nActually\, I hav
e been “conceiving” these images since the late 1990’s.\nThese are m
ostly on the aesthetic sort of views which could be based\non someone’s
 experiences. \nLinda Estrela Ikeda

DESCRIPTION:Seeds of Resilience: Barrio Americano\nA New Year Celebrating

DESCRIPTION:The Long Beach Open Studio Tour is an artist-run\, community-p
owered event dedicated to strengthening connections between local artists
 and the public. It’s a free\, self-guided tour of working studios\, many
located within the artists’ homes. We invite visitors into the creative
spaces\, backyards\, and neighborhoods that shape the art and the lives b
ehind it. \nBy opening these doors\, we create meaningful exchanges\, reve
al hidden corners of Long Beach\, and foster a deeper sense of connection\
, curiosity\, and community across our city. \nThis grassroots event is ma
de possible by participating artists and the generous support of individua
ls\, businesses\, and organizations who believe in nurturing Long Beach’
s creative spirit. \nSince 2009\, the tour has woven together neighborhood
s\, artists\, and thousands of visitors across Long Beach\, drawing people
into studios tucked behind garden gates\, along busy corridors\, and insi
de quiet residential streets. Last year alone\, nearly 3\,000 visitors ste
pped inside these creative spaces\, discovering not only new artwork\, but
new corners of the city itself.
