seum of Art is delighted to welcome Leonardo Drew\, one of the most innova
tive and acclaimed artists working today. The artist is best known for his
bold\, yet carefully ordered use of materials—such as wood and metals
—that make reference to the cyclical nature of life\, the passage of tim
e\, and U.S. industrial history. Drew’s work is represented in celebrate
d private and public collections of Contemporary art\, including the Metro
politan Museum of Art (New York)\; the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Gard
en (Washington DC)\; the Solomon Guggenheim Museum (New York)\; and the Ta
te (London).\nLeonardo Drew will engage in a public conversation with coll
ector and close friend Fred Giuffrida (ND ’73). Giuffrida and his wife\,
Pamela Joyner\, are among the most prominent collectors and admired arts
patrons in the United States today. Drew’s 2015 installation Number 52S
is on long-term loan to the Museum from the Joyner/Giuffrida Collection\,
which focuses on contemporary abstract art by African American artists and
artists of the African diaspora.\nNumber 52S is an iconic work within the
artist’s repertoire. It unfolds before the viewer with the captivating
visual attention for which Drew is so well known. Like many of his monumen
tal abstract works\, Number 52S achieves a tense balance between chaos and
order\, between encountered randomness and structured accumulation. Drew
’s numbered rather than descriptive titles invite the viewer’s persona
l\, creative\, and intellectual response to the experience of the work.\nT

technology activist. A longtime contributor to leading magazines\, websit
es and newspapers\, he serves as a special consultant to the Electronic Fr
ontier Foundation (eff.org)\, a non-profit civil liberties group defending
freedom in technology law\, policy and standards. He holds an honorary do
ctorate in computer science from the Open University (UK)\, where he is a
Visiting Professor\; he is also affiliated with the MIT Media Lab and the
University of North Carolina’s School of Library and Information Science
as Visiting Professor of Practice. In 2007\, he served as Fulbright Chair
at the Annenberg Center for Public Diplomacy at the University of Souther
n California. He was inducted into the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantas

in the Humanities and Professor of Creative Writing\, is a former MacArthu
r Fellow and a recipient of the 2022 PEN/Faulkner Award for The Book of Go
ose. She won the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction and th
e 2026 Pulitzer Prize for memoir for her 2025 book Things in Nature Merely

ble in the Visitor Lot immediately north of the Sculpture Park for a fee d
uring the week (before 4:30 p.m.). Free two-hour parking is available in t
he Eddy Street Commons Parking Garage or along Angela Blvd. After 4:30 p.m
. and on weekends\, parking is free and available in any non-gated campus
lot. If traveling via South Bend Transpo\, take the No.7 bus and use the E
