  would like to invite you to attend the annual KAREN PUTMAN Smoking & Gril
 ling Small Plates BBQ Competition. This will take place on SEPTEMBER 15th\
 , 2026\, at the Culinary Arts Center at Johnson County Community College.\
 n\nLocal chefs will be competing in a small plates competition featuring S
 ummer Grilling & Smoking Menus in memory of our friend and colleague\, Kar
 en Putman.\n\nWe are asking you to lend us a hand by donating items of mer
 chandise\, gift baskets\, gift certificates/cards\, etc. All money raised 
 will be used towards the Karen Putman Memorial Scholarship Fund here in Ka
 nsas City to support a Student Chef at JCCC. Your tax-deductible gift woul

 d Secretary\, Chef Diane Mora\, Kids Feeding Kids an initiative of Pete’
 s Garden. \n\n\nMeeting details: Entry options: $10 at the door OR waived 
 for anyone contributing a potluck dish* (see details) \n\n\n*Potluck with 
 a purpose: Bring a salad\, main dish\, vegetable\, starch\, or protein to 
 share. (Can be served hot or cold.) Consider preparing an extra disposable
  foil pan of your dish for donation. Surplus portions will be packaged by 
 Pete’s Garden & delivered to families of Operation Breakthrough or YMCA 
 Head Start. \n\n\nFriendly Competition: Anonymous voting by ticket count i
 n the following categories: Family Favorite\, Classic Comfort\, Best Flavo
 r\, Kid Friendly\, Meatless Marvel\, and People’s Choice. \n\n\nEducatio
 n & Tours: Joe Nicole (Program Manager\, Pete’s Garden) will offer tours
  and share how Pete’s Garden rescues surplus\, prepared food daily\, the
 n packages and distributes it as no-cost meals to families locally. Chef D
 iane Mora (Program & Education Director\, Kids Feeding Kids) will discuss 
 Food Donor Protection Laws\, and highlight how Kids Feeding Kids works to 
 reduce food waste and disrupt food insecurity through partnerships with hi
 gh school culinary and foods classes nationwide. \n\n\nRSVP & Register You

 ishes—while learning more about surplus food redistribution and communit
