DESCRIPTION:In this brand new master class at Hammerspace our resident swo
rdsmith Dave will be guiding 3-4 intrepid smiths through all the steps of
making a short sword from scratch. \nWe will begin with some specialized s
teel meant for high performance\, strength\, and edge retention: 5160 Spri
ng Steel \nThis carbon steel has the perfect balance between toughness and
edge retention. It's extremely forgiving to heat treat\, with exceptional
hardness and fine grain structure. This steel has great stability in quen
ch and is easy to work with and grind\, even at higher hardnesses. \nOn Sa
turday\, we will learn to grind a sword profile\, create a fuller for the
center of our blades and bevel the edges. We will prepare our tangs for ou
r cross guards and handles and finally heat treat our blade to complete ou
r work for day one. \nOver night\, our smith will complete the tempering p
rocess. \nOn Sunday\, we will begin by forging our crossguards and machini
ng our pommels\, interspersed with cleaning and sanding our blades from da
y 1. We will complete our day by creating exotic hardwood handles and leat
her spacers and assembling our finished sword. \nThis is a full weekend ev
ent\, with a lunch intermission both days.\nFeel free to order or bring fo
od and drink. \nWear closed toe shoes and weather appropriate clothing. \n
 Saturday and Sunday 10 am - 5 pm(ish)\nAges 18 and up\nClass size 4 +1 tea
cher\nCost $375 \n*REFUND POLICY: You must cancel your RSVP at least 3 DAY
S before the day of the event in order to receive a refund or reschedule.
