 d to Indiana’s Black heritage and deepen our understanding of the Afric

 ram features Dr. Jakobi Williams\, who will lead a community-centered expl
 oration of Black history\, political power\, and preservation. Williams wi
 ll examine Black voting rights as a tool for collective community power\, 
 grounded in the principle “when we vote\, we win.” He will highlight t
 he historic 1972 National Black Political Convention in Gary\, Indiana—w
 hich placed the state at the forefront of national Black politics—and co
 nnect that legacy to today’s fights over voter access\, education\, and 
 Black studies. \nThe event\, which includes a question-and-answer session\

  environment. She has a master’s degree in Environmental Science from In

 8)\, a Midwest Black girl coming of age story. Massey founded the literary
  arts organization\, UnLearn Arts\, radically dedicated to amplifying and 
 cultivating the craft and wellness of BIPOC writers in the Midwest and els
 ewhere. \nMitchell L. H. Douglas is the author of four poetry collections
 : Universal Corner\, dying in the scarecrow’s arms\, \\blak\\ \\al-fə b
 et\, winner of the Persea Books Lexi Rudnitsky/Editor’s Choice Award\, 
 and Cooling Board: A Long-Playing Poem\, an NAACP Image Award and Hurston/
 Wright Legacy Award nominee. His “Poem that Begins w/a Tweet About Gwend
 olyn Brooks” was featured in This is the Honey: An Anthology of Contempo
 rary Black Poets edited by New York Times best-selling author Kwame Alex
 ander. A 2021 National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellow\, hi

 h a textile workshop to participants! \nParticipants will learn about appr
 opriation and inspiration in fashion and art\, then explore the Expressio
 ns of Life: Native Art in North America gallery\, creating sketches to ap
 ply in the studio upcycling a jacket or hoodie using print blocks\, paint\
 , embroidery and accessories to update their wardrobe. It is encouraged t
 o bring in a hoodie or jacket that you would like to decorate. If you don
 ’t have a piece of clothing that you’d like to bring in\, you can crea
 te a make and take patch that you can later add to a piece of clothing. \n
 No experience necessary. All supplies will be provided. This workshop is b
 est for people ages 15+. \nParking is free on a first come\, first serve b
 asis in the White River State Parking Garage. Proof of membership required

 der\, and doll maker from the Little Shell Chippewa Tribe. She lives on th
 e Crow Reservation in Montana. In 2016\, she founded Plains Soul to share 
 her unique style and artistry with a wider audience. Moran McCleary is kno
 wn for Indigenizing everyday items\, transforming thrift-store finds and h
 and-me-downs into works of art that express her identity. Taught by her mo
 thers to bead and sew\, she then developed her own style that infuses trad
 itional practices with contemporary design. \nA 2022 First Peoples Fund Ar
 tist in Business Leadership Fellow and two-time recipient of the Montana I
 ndian Equity Grant\, Moran McCleary recently built her own studio and reta
 il space using these funds\, furthering her commitment to creative entrepr
 eneurship.\nPlains Soul fashions have been featured at Native Fashion in t
 he City\, Honour Our Legacy Fashion Show\, Big Sky IndigiFest and Fashion 
 Gala\, Montana Folk Festival Fashion Show\, and numerous community shows a
 t local schools and fundraising events. \nMoran McCleary was previously a 
 member of the b.Yellowtail Collective\, where she sold her Fierce One Doll
  Collection. Her beadwork has been exhibited widely in venues such as The 
 Brinton Museum\, Emerson Art Center\, Chicago Field Museum\, Museum of the
  Rockies\, Yellowstone County Museum\, Carnegie Museum\, Missoula Art Muse
 um\, and the Tribal Heritage Center at Yellowstone National Park. Her work
  has also been featured internationally at Massey Arts and Seymour Art Gal
 lery in Vancouver\, Canada\, as well as in the Stories from Bead Night vir

 that’s FREE? \nTake stargazing to new heights by escaping the light poll
 ution of the city and heading to McCloud Nature Park\, where thousands of 
 stars twinkle like jewels in the dark night sky! \nThe Indiana Astronomica
 l Society partners with Park Naturalists to hold sky seminars and viewings
  at McCloud on the Saturday nights listed below. These programs\, led by e
 xpert sky watchers\, are geared for the novice astronomer. \nTelescopes la
 rge and small will be set up for your use. Each evening will begin with a 
 brief informational session (“sky seminar”) in the Nature Center where
  you will learn which planets and constellations will be visible that nigh
 t. These seminars last about 30 minutes and are best suited for ages 8 and
  older. Outdoor sky-viewing will begin following the seminars. \nIMPORTANT
  NOTE: Sky seminars will take place rain or shine\, but sky viewings are d
 ependent upon clear skies. If poor weather is forecast or any severe weath
 er advisories are issued\, the sky-viewing portion of the program will be 
 canceled. \nAll Astronomy programs are held on Saturdays at McCloud Nature

 workout along the scenic Downtown Canal. Bike & Bootcamp is offered every 
 Monday at 6 PM. This FREE\, dynamic fitness class starts and ends at the O
 range Bridge\, where the Indianapolis Cultural Trail intersects with the D
 owntown Canal near the Colts Canal Playspace.  Participants will ride 2-4
  miles by bike with several stops for body weight and other exercises\, su
 ch as squats\, dips\, stairs\, wall sits\, and push-ups. \nAll ages\, bodi
 es\, and fitness levels welcome. Participants should bring their own bike\
 , helmet\, and water.  Workouts are led by Tiffianie King of 3 B Fit Bod
 y\, Beauty & Brain LLC and are FREE\, but waiver is required and registrat
 ion is encouraged. \nWant to join\, but don’t have a bike? A Pacers Bike
 share station is conveniently located near the start and finish for anyone
  needing one. Indianapolis and Marion County residents are  also eligible
  for  IndyRides Free\, an annual bikeshare pass that allows for free 30-m
