 iliate Center for the Book are pleased to announce an exciting upcoming ev
 ent!  \n \nThe Center for the Book in the Library of Congress is a commun
 ity of 56 Affiliated Centers existing to promote reading\, libraries and l
 iteracy across the country. There is an Affiliate Center for the Book in e
 ach of the 50 states\, the District of Columbia\, Puerto Rico\, the U.S. V
 irgin Islands\, Guam\, American Samoa and Northern Marianas. These Centers
  also elevate and advocate for each state’s unique literary heritage –
  developed by writers whose works reflect distinctively American places. T
 heir stories\, novels\, essays\, poems and other written works\, rooted in
  the nation’s extraordinary diversity of people and geography\, are ofte
 n featured in the programs supported by the Affiliated Centers for the Boo
 k. These Centers engage\, inspire\, and inform diverse audiences through a
 uthor talks\, web-based programs\, podcasts\, videos\, writing challenges 
 for young people\, book festivals and other events designed to advance app
 reciation of the written word. \nThe Indiana Affiliate Center for the Book
  is housed at the Indiana Young Readers Center at the Indiana State Librar
 y. The Indiana Affiliate Center for the Book (ICB) has several exciting pr
 ograms that Hoosiers can get involved with to promote literacy. We jury th
 e Firefly Early Literacy Book Award\, we have interactive displays and kio
 sks to teach about the Library of Congress and literacy\, we host the Indi
 ana Statehood Day writing contest and the Letters About Literature writing
  contest\, we manage a program to offer storytime\, STEAM\, book\, Lego\, 
 and escape experience kits for teachers and librarians across the state\, 
 we host events and author visits\, we created the Indiana Literary Places 
 Map\, and we support a collect of materials for young people written and i
 llustrated by Indiana Authors and Illustrators. \nEach year the Affiliated
  Centers for the Book participate in the National Book Festival in Washing
 ton DC. Each Center for the Book Affiliate will staff a booth in the Festi
 val’s Roadmap to Reading area to promote reading\, libraries and literac
 y in their state. Annually\, these Affiliated Centers for the Book selec
 t “Great Reads from Great Places.” Each affiliate chooses two titles. 
 In most cases\, these books—one for youth and one for adults—are writt
 en by authors from their state or territory\, take place in their state or
  territory and/or celebrate local culture and heritage. In addition\, this
  year\, in honor of America’s 250th Semiquincentennial\, affiliate cente
 rs were encouraged to choose a title that connects to that theme in some w
 ay. The Indiana Affiliate Center for the Book works with Indiana Humanitie
 s to select titles. \nThe Indiana Affiliate Center for the Book is delight
 ed to announce its National Book Festival Great Read titles for 2026!   
 The Last Adieu: Lafayette’s Triumphant Return\, the Echoes of Revolution
 \, and the Gratitude of the Republic by Ryan L. Cole is the 2026 Great Re
 ad Adult Selection. This book fits perfectly with the America’s 250th Se
 miquincentennial. When the Marquis de Lafayette returned to the United Sta
 tes in 1824\, the aging hero of the American Revolution was defeated polit
 ically and distraught over the fate of liberty in Europe. He set sail one 
 last time from France for America after an absence of forty years. He was 
 welcomed with the grandest celebration the young republic would ever stage
  as he traveled to every state in the Union and met with parades and delir

  addition\, each state or territory has the opportunity to host “Festiva
 l Near You” events in their home states. \nAuthor Ryan Cole\, from India

 s Mount Vernon and the Library of Congress and his writing has appeared in
  the Wall Street Journal. \nThis event is free and will take place in pers
 on at the Indiana State Library in the Indiana Author’s Room\, with an o
 ption to attend virtually. Registration is required for the virtual presen
 tations. \nWe are excited to celebrate these “Great Reads” and great a

 aordinary history of our nation’s founding to the screen. Sarah will be 
 joined in conversation by Kathryn Cramer Brownell\, Professor of History a
 nd Director of the Center for American Political History\, Media\, and Tec
 hnology (CAPT) at Purdue University. \nSarah has collaborated with Ken Bur
 ns and Florentine Films for nearly 30 years\, producing some of the most a
 cclaimed documentaries on PBS\, including The Vietnam War\, Hemingway\, Ja
 zz\, and College Behind Bars. \nThis event is being held in partnership wi
 th WFYI\, the Purdue University College of Liberal Arts and its Center for
  American Political History\, Media\, and Technology (CAPT)\, the Indianap

 rres and Katherine Culp\, our monthly book club is intended to be a fun\, 
 easy space to chat about what we love about our Book of the Month. Pick up
  a copy at Indy Reads for 15% off and then join us on the last Sunday of e

 s: Katherine Culp Katherine has been reader all her life! While she loves 
 all genres\, but fantasy\, sci-fi\, and cozy mysteries are her absolute fa
 vorite! Katherine has a personal goal to read 50 books each year. She was 
 4 short last year\, so hopes to reach her goal this year–thank you book 
 clubs! Her favorite way to read is by listening to audiobooks (yes that co
 unts!). Some of Katherine’s favorite books are The Hunger Games series b
 y Suzanne Collins\, the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riodian\, and the Leg
 endborn series by Tracy Deon. Gya Torres Gya is a lover of all things Roma
 nce. Her favorite way to read is via audiobooks and will definitely have a
 ll kinds of trophy books to celebrate her favorite reads. She also loves t
 o read about feminist movements\, social justice\, and memoirs. Gya loves 
 to read multiple books at once\, since she is a mood reader and needs to f
 ind the right book for the right moment. Currently she is indulging in Kat
 ee Robert’s latest novel\, Tender Cruelty the 9th book in the Dark Olymp
 us series. At the same time she is physically reading Mutual Aid by Dean S
 pade\, and I\, Medusa by Ayana Grey. This event is Pay-What-You-Can. Here
