DESCRIPTION:“Alternative Polyadenylation in Cardiac Fibrosis: From Mecha
nism to Heart Failure Recovery"\n\n \n\nDescription: Heart failure remains
difficult to treat because current therapies rarely reverse the cardiac f
ibrosis that limits myocardial recovery. This translational research exami
nes alternative polyadenylation\, a post-transcriptional mechanism that al
ters 3′ untranslated region (3′UTR) isoform usage and profibrotic gene
expression. Studies integrate failing human myocardium\, myocardial sampl
es collected at left ventricular assist device implantation and subsequent
  heart transplantation\, patient-derived cardiac fibroblasts\, Poly(A)-Cli
ckSeq\, and mouse models. This approach defines how altered RNA processing
promotes fibrosis and whether its reversal accompanies recovery following
mechanical circulatory support\, while evaluating gene-based strategies t
o restore protective 3′UTR usage\, reduce fibrosis\, improve cardiac fun
ction\, and expand opportunities for patients with heart failure.\n\n \n\n

DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\nThe 2026 JIMI Symposium is a full‑day\, in‑per
son educational experience focused on the practical work of sustaining joy
and professional fulfillment in today’s clinical and leadership environ
 ments.\n\n \n\nBuilding on the momentum of the 2024 & 2025 symposiums\, th
is year’s program is intentionally designed so that every session is not
only engaging and meaningful\, but also specific\, practical\, and direct
ly applicable to everyday clinical and leadership work.\n\n \n\nWhy Attend
?\n\nClinicians and health care leaders continue to face well‑documented
challenges related to well‑being\, leadership behaviors\, practice envi
ronment design\, and the responsible use of innovation and technology. The
2026 JIMI Symposium addresses these gaps by moving beyond high‑level in
spiration to focus on how change actually happens in real clinical and hea
lth system settings.\n\n \n\nThrough plenary conversations\, applied strat
egy spotlights\, role‑based interactive labs\, and interprofessional dis
cussion\, participants will explore evidence‑informed approaches and lea
ve with concrete tools and strategies they can use immediately within thei
 r own teams\, roles\, and practice environments.\n\n \n\nThe symposium emp
hasizes translation from insight to action—equipping participants with c
lear frameworks\, tested practices\, and leadership behaviors that can be
 implemented within real‑world clinical\, operational\, and organizationa
 l constraints.

Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)\n\nWebsite: h

From the discovery of the first angiogenesis inhibitors to the developmen
t of controlled drug delivery systems and the foundation of tissue enginee
ring\n\n \n\nAdvanced drug delivery systems are having an enormous impact
on human health. We start by discussing our early research on developing t
he first controlled release systems for macromolecules and the isolation o
f angiogenesis inhibitors and how these led to numerous new therapies. Thi
s early research then led to new drug delivery technologies including nano
particles and nanotechnology that are now being studied for use treating c
ancer\, other illnesses and in vaccine delivery (including the Covid-19 va
ccine). Approaches for synthesizing new biomaterials\, such as biodegradab
le polyanhydrides\, are then examined\, and examples where such materials
are used in brain cancer and other diseases are discussed. Finally\, by co
mbining mammalian cells\, including stem cells\, with synthetic polymers\,
new approaches for engineering tissues are being developed that may somed
ay help in various diseases. Examples in the areas of cartilage\, skin\, b
lood vessels and heart tissue are discussed.\n\n \n\nPresented by the Cent

ourse Overview: \n\n \n\nThere is a demographic shift in the U.S. towards
an older population. This “gray tsunami” will disproportionately affec
t ophthalmology as a specialty because our top disorders are diseases of t
he elderly (age-related macular degeneration (ARMD)\, glaucoma and catarac
ts). Geriatric ophthalmic patients are not simply “older adults”\; the
y have unique responses to treatment and disease and may have co-morbiditi
es that impact diagnosis\, treatment and prognosis. Moreover\, elderly pat
ients may require the expertise of several health professionals from diver
se disciplines who have experience in dealing with specific geriatric synd
romes. Increasing geriatric expertise among ophthalmologists and primary c
are specialists while promoting competent\, compassionate care of elderly
patients is imperative.\n\n \n\nThis activity seeks to address the needs o
f the geriatric patient population by arming providers with the necessary
information on topics such as diabetic retinopathy\, ARMD\, cataracts\, gl
 aucoma\, low-vision\, as well as related co-morbidities (e.g.\, depression
\, dementia\, hearing loss\, function loss\, driving and elder abuse). The
re is an insufficient number of geriatricians to meet the demographic shif
