DESCRIPTION:The Cultural Center “Our Texas” will host Havana: Where th
e Past Meets the Future\, a collaborative exhibition featuring Cuban-Ameri
can artist Timoteo Domínguez Fuentes and Russian-American photographer Vl
adimir Frumin. This visual dialogue brings together painting and photograp
hy to explore themes of identity\, memory\, and resilience. \nDomínguez F
 uentes’ paintings examine migration\, cultural identity\, spirituality\,
and social resilience through vibrant\, emotionally charged figurative co
mpositions. His work merges traditional artistic language with contemporar
y conceptual approaches\, reflecting on collective memory and the enduring
strength of communities facing displacement and change. \nHis work has be
en exhibited at venues including the YMCA and World Refugee Houston\, and
his murals can be found in hotels\, restaurants\, and schools across Houst
on\, Cancún\, and Havana. In Cuba\, he was recognized as a winner of the
“Panchito Simón” Municipal Plastic Arts Competition. \nVladimir Frumi
n’s photography complements these themes through stark\, contemplative i
mages of neglected urban spaces—such as deserted parks and abandoned bui
ldings—as well as portraits of isolated individuals. His work captures t
he quiet dignity of those living on the margins of society. \nHis photogra
phy has received international recognition\, including the Sony World Phot
ography Awards for Conceptual Art (2016) and Portraits (2023). His work wa
s exhibited at Somerset House in London. In 2016\, Frumin received the Car
ol Crow Fellowship Award at the Houston Center for Photography for the doc
umentary “Everybody’s 5th Ward\,” as well as Black & White Magazine
’s Excellence Award (2011) and Spotlight Award (2014). \nTogether\, the
artists create a compelling narrative of shared human experience\, bridgin
g cultural and geographic divides through empathy and visual storytelling.
\nThe exhibition is free and open to the public.\nGallery Hours:\nMonday
