DESCRIPTION:This 7.5 mile hike features some of the most spectacular scene
 ry and diverse habitats on the SHT. From the breathtaking views from the S
 ection 13 cliffs\, to the primeval vistas of the Sawmill creek valley inha
 bited by otter\, beaver\, and moose\, to the remote aspen and cedar forest
 s along the baptism river\, this trail has it all. This hike is moderate t
 o difficult. Hikers should plan on meeting at the Lake County Road 6 trail
 head at the posted start time. Participants will then board a shuttle bus 
 to the hike starting point at the SHT Lake County Road 6 parking lot. Exac
 t start and end time of the hike will be flexible depending on how long it
  takes to complete the shuttle process. \nIf multiple people wish to hike 
 together\, each participant must complete a separate registration. Youth a
 ges 12-17 are welcome if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nW

DESCRIPTION:Chester Bowl’s 42nd Annual Fall Fest is on Saturday\, Septem
 ber 19th\, 2026 from 9:30-4:30. \nFall Fest is all about building communit
 y with friends and neighbors in the park! At this regional craft event you
  will enjoy music\, food\, crafts\, locally grown fresh produce\, vendors\
 , and informational booths about local programs. This annual event hosts 1
 35 vendors selling locally made crafts and art\, a great line up of music\
 , fifteen food trucks (if you go home hungry you are doing Fall Fest wrong
 )\, and activities for children and families. In addition\, Chester Bowl b
 randed clothing and other items are always sold at our tent just inside th
 e front gate. \nFall Fest is a fundraising event for Chester Bowl’s scho
 larship fund. Suggested donations of $5 per person or $10 per family will 
 be accepted at the entrance to support the scholarships we will award in t
 he coming year. Last year our community supported us with $12\,250 in dona
 tions! This funding (along with our Silent Auction and Warren Miller Film 
 Screening in November) is what enabled us to award $22\,882 in winter scho
 larships to over 100 different families last year\, and to support over 15
 0 weeks of camp with $31\,784 in scholarships in summer 2026. Your generos
 ity means more kids and families can ski\, snowboard\, and come to summer 
 camp\, even if they can’t afford the fees!\nOur rain date\, if needed\, 
 is Sunday\, 9/20. \nAll visitors are highly encouraged to use the free shu
 ttle buses that will run continuously from the University of Minnesota Dul
 uth parking lot B\, located at the intersection of College St. and Univers
 ity Drive. Parking is very limited near the event\, so walking\, biking (b
 ike racks near the entrance)\, or using the shuttles is highly recommended
 . There are a limited number of handicapped accessible parking spots near 
 the entrance to the park. PLEASE do not try to drive and park in the neigh
 borhoods nearby- the shuttle will be faster and more convenient\, we promi

 focused on herbal plan ID and medicine making. The first was along the Mil
 lennium Trail and this one is on Barker’s Island\, where we will meet a 
 different a herbal helper. We will go for a walk and learn where and when 
 to spot it\, and characteristics that help identify it. After foraging\, w
 e’ll learn the plant’s herbal actions\, what ailments to use it for\, 
 responsible harvesting\, and making some medicine with the plant to take h
 ome. (If you are unable to do the walk portion of class\, samples will be 
 available in the classroom as well.) \nNo experience is necessary and walk
  will be along a flat surface.  \nOur teacher Lara Fahnlander is a certif
 icated herbalist\, studying under Master Herbalist Lise Wolff\, Chanchal C

 e public. \nFree to attend.\nABOUT CHARLIE PARR\nIn the music of Charlie P
 arr\, there is a sincere conviction and earnest drive to create. The Minne
 sota-born guitarist\, songwriter\, and interpreter of traditional music ha
 s released 19 albums over two decades and has been known to perform up to 
 275 shows a year. Parr is a folk troubadour in the truest sense: taking to
  the road between shows\, writing and rewriting songs as he plays\, fueled
  by a belief that music is eternal and cannot be claimed or adequately exp
 lained. The bluesman poet pulls closely from the sights and sounds around 
 him\, his lyrical craftsmanship built by his influences. The sounds from h
 is working-class upbringing—including Folkways legends such as Lead Bell
 y and Woody Guthrie—imbue Parr’s music with stylistic echoes of blues 
 and folk icons of decades past. Parr sees himself merely as a continuer of
  a folk tradition: “I feel like I stand on a lot of big shoulders\,” h
 e said in an interview. “I hope that I’ve brought a little bit of myse
 lf to the music.” \n \nWith a discography simultaneously transcendental 
 in nature and grounded in roots music\, Charlie Parr is the humble master 
 of the 21st century folk tradition. Parr started recording in Duluth in 20
 02\, where he lives today. Life in the port town on Lake Superior has a wa
 y of bleeding into his work the same way his childhood in Austin\, Minneso
 ta does. Parr self-released his debut album\, Criminals and Sinners\, and 
 did the same for his sophomore album 1922 (2002). With growing popularity 
 abroad\, Parr signed with Red House Records in 2015\, where he recorded br
 eak-out albums Stumpjumper (2015) and Dog (2017). Parr’s music has an ov
 erwhelming sense of being present and mindful\, and his sound is timeless.
  \nParr’s mastery of his craft is only more apparent when contextualized
  within the history of folk tradition of which Parr has dedicated his prac
 tice The land and lives around and intersecting with Parr have always infl
 uenced him\, from the hills and valleys of Hollandale\, Minnesota to the D
 epression-era stories from his father. Parr strives to listen to everythin
 g: “I don’t see that I’d ever be capable of creating anything if it 
 weren’t for these inspirations and influences\, books and music as well 
 as the weather and random interactions with strangers and animals. So\, th
 e well never runs dry as long as my eyes and ears are open\,” Parr said 
 in a 2020 interview. Before he was even 10 years old Parr was rummaging th
 rough his father’s record collection—sometimes drawing dinosaurs on th
 e vinyl sleeves—and listening to country\, folk\, and blues legends\, ma
 ny of whom are staples in the Folkways catalog. When Parr sings and plays 
 his resonator or 12-string\, you can hear influences like Mance Lipscomb\,
  Charley Patton\, Spinder John Koerner\, Rev. Gary Davis\, and Dock Boggs.
  This is especially true in his playing\, when\, after a diagnosis of foca
 l dystonia\, Parr turned to greats like Davis\, Doc Watson\, and Booker Wh
 ite for two-finger picking inspiration. Gifted a 1965 Gibson B-45 12-strin
 g by his father\, Parr has never had a formal lesson and learned by to lis
 tening records and watching musicians he admired. \n  \nParr’s first al
 bum with Smithsonian Folkways\, Last of Better Days Head (2021)\, foregrou
 nded his lyrical craftsmanship and sophisticated bluesman confidence\, wit
 h spare production highlighting Parr’s mastery of guitar and elevating h
 is poetry. Last of Better Days Ahead is a portrait of how Parr saw the wor
 ld in that moment\, reflecting on time and memories that have past while h
 olding an enduring desire to be present. In his 2024 release\, Little Sun\
 , Parr weaves together stories celebrating music\, community\, and communi
 ng with nature. Putting forth an ambitious and raw album that exemplifies 
 the best of Parr’s sound: a blend of the blues and folk traditions he co
 ntinues to carry with him and the steadfast originality of a poet.

 l learn how to layout and construct abutments for a bridge. Tasks may incl

 \, volunteers will assemble and install a fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) b

DESCRIPTION:This moderate to challenging 7 mile hike involves a long climb
 \, but is worth the effort\, as it ends in one of the most visited places 
 on the SHTA. Along the way out and back\, hikers will have a chance for a
  close up look at the spectacular geology of the area\, as well as learnin
 g about the state of the art trail renovation that has taken place on this
  section over the last few years. The view from the top provides an amazin
 g vista of two wilderness lakes. At this time of year hikers may experienc
 e fall colors of the forest from a high vantage point as well as the un
 ique chance to see migrating raptors and resident ospreys cruising above t
 he lakes 400 feet below. \nIf multiple people wish to hike together\, each
