DESCRIPTION:Active Outdoors-Duluth/Superior\nBorder Route Trail: Mucker La
ke spur trail\, Topper Lake spur trail\n\nBRTA 2026 FALL TRAIL CLEARING\nS
teven's BRT trail clearing trip this fall starts on October 2 and ends on
October 4. Arrival on October 1 is recommended\; we will plan to start at
9 AM on 10/2. Our goal is to clear the Mucker Lake spur trail at 2.5 miles
long and the Topper Lake spur at .3 miles. Time permitting\, we will cove
r the BRT between the two lakes.\nThere are no camp sites on the BRT that
work for this project so we will likely camp at a forest service campgroun
d on Iron Lake\, drive to the trail head each day and hike in.\nThe BRTA p
rovides helmets\, gloves\, goggles\, loppers\, saws and tarp. You will nee
d sturdy boots\, warm clothing\, rain gear\, tent and sleeping pad and bag
. This area was burned in a fire several years ago so hammock camping may
not work. I’ll follow up on that.\nIf interested please reply to this em

DESCRIPTION:Active Outdoors-Duluth/Superior\nFall is approaching quickly a
nd so are the trail maintenance trips on the Border Route Trail (a unit of
the NPS’s North Country National Scenic Trail). This trip will focus on
the non-wilderness west end which is a 17 mile section near Gunflint Lake
. The non-wilderness section of trail maintenance is done with the followi
ng tools: hand saws\, lobbers\, chainsaws (for those with NPS or USFS sawy
er certification) and brush cutters. These tools are used to clear the est
ablished trail of deadfall and brush. There may also be some blazing\, sig
nage installation and/or kiosk repair. The Border Route Trail is a rugged
wilderness trail on the Canadian border – come prepared for cool or wet
early October weather and uneven walking surfaces which can be slick in ar
eas if recent rain. Plan on hiking with a daypack and working with /or car
rying tools an average of 5 miles a day on the BRT overlooking the Gunflin
t Lake area.\nVehicle camping (tent) possibly along the Cross River or a U
SFS campground if open. This will be determined closer to the date. The lo
cation will be our base for the weekend. Further details will be given to
those that sign up.\nBreakfast on Saturday and Sunday plus dinner on Frida
y and Saturday is included (two breakfasts\, two dinners). Lunch and snack
s are on your own. Be prepared for cool evenings and moderate day work con
ditions near the Canadian border.\n**Estimated Cost:** $30\n**Deposit:** $
