 eventable Blindness will be launched at the Round Room at the Rotunda on 6
  October 2026. Through powerful photography\, personal stories\, and immer
 sive imagery\, the exhibition shines a light on the reality of avoidable a
 nd preventable blindness and the profound impact it has on millions of peo
 ple around the world. \n\n\n\nPresented by Sightsavers Ireland\, the exhib
 ition highlights both the challenges faced by individuals living with visi
 on loss and the extraordinary progress being made to prevent blindness and
  promote eye health. It showcases the life-changing effects of access to e
 ye care\, surgery\, treatment\, and inclusive support\, demonstrating that
  simple\, proven interventions can transform lives\, livelihoods\, and com
 munities. \n\n\n\nMore than an exhibition\, this is a call to awareness an
 d action. Visitors are invited to reflect on the human stories behind the 
 images\, celebrate the resilience of individuals and communities\, and rec
 ognise that together we can help create a world where no one is needlessly
  blind and where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potentia
 l. \n\n\n\nThrough Their Eyes promotes a human rights agenda by highlighti
 ng access to eye health and inclusion as fundamental issues of equality\, 
 dignity and participation. \n\n\n\nAvoidable vision impairment disproporti
 onately affects people experiencing poverty and exclusion\, and a lack of 
 access to appropriate eye care can create or reinforce barriers to educati
 on\, employment\, independence and participation in community life. Throug
 h photography\, personal stories and immersive imagery\, the exhibition co
 nnects these global inequalities with the people whose rights and opportun
 ities are directly affected.The exhibition also explores disability throug
 h a rights-based lens\, recognising that people with visual impairments ha
 ve the same right to participate fully and equally in society. It highligh
 ts the importance of accessible and inclusive health services\, education 
 and communities\, while demonstrating how proven interventions and stronge
 r\, more equitable systems can remove barriers and enable people to exerci
 se their rights. \n\n\n\nBy centring the experiences and perspectives of p
 eople and communities affected by vision impairment\, Through Their Eyes e
 ncourages audiences to consider preventable blindness not simply as a heal
 th issue\, but as an issue of social justice\, equality and human rights 
 – and to recognise the collective responsibility to build a world in whi
 ch everyone can participate on an equal basis. \n\n\n\nThis event is prese
 nted by Sightsavers Ireland \n\n\n\nSightsavers Ireland is an internationa
 l charity working in more than 30 countries in Africa and Asia to train he
 alth workers\, provide eye operations\, support people with disabilities\,
  improve women’s health\, and more. \n\n\n\nAt Sightsavers\, we start wi
 th sight\, but we don’t stop there. \n\n\n\nWe treat eye conditions suc
 h as cataracts and tackle debilitating diseases\, many of which cause s
 ight loss. To do this\, we work with governments and local\, national and 
 international partners to carry out eye operations and distribute treatmen

 deido Collective present this multidisciplinary art piece featuring an ins
 tallation and live monologue performance as part of the Irish Arts and Hum
 an Rights Festival. The installation and monologue commemorate the 120\,00
 0 internally displaced people in the highlands of West Papua. They have be
 en displaced due to the ongoing conflict between the independence movement
  and Indonesian government. The government does not allow humanitarian aid
  into the region and has refused to engage in peace talks. These internati
 onal displace people have no clean water\, no food\, no shelter\, no healt
 hcare\, no education and many have died while waiting to return home. \n\n
 \n\nThe installation is freely available to view on Saturday 10 October 20
 26\, from 9am-2pm\, with the live monologue performance taking place at 12
 pm. \n\n\n\nThis event is presented by Peace Bridges International and the
  Udeido Collective \n\n\n\nUdeido Collective was founded in Yogyakarta in 
 2018 as a platform for young artists from across Papua to initiate an arti
 stic movement in their homeland. Udeido Collective’s works visually art
 iculate the situation of the West Papuan people. Their practice touches on
  the use of conceptual elements from socio-cultural construction that exis
 t in their own society. Reconstruction of these elements is placed as a me
 thod for analysing and discussing social issues within society caused by
  prolonged social-political conflict.  Udeido takes its name from the ud
 e leaf\, which is used on the island to treat wounds\, and aims to heal an
 d reconstruct the collective memory of the Papuan people. \n\n\n\nHuman ri
 ghts defenders are at the heart of all we do at Peace Bridges Internationa
 l.  We provide protection\, support and recognition to local human r
 ights defenders who work in areas of repression and conflict and have req
 uested our support.  We believe that lasting transformation of conflicts 
 cannot come from outside\, but must be based on the capacity and desires o
 f local people. We avoid imposing\, interfering or getting directly involv
 ed in the work of the people we accompany. Our work is effective because w
 e take an integrated approach\, combining a presence alongside human right
 s defenders on the ground with an extensive network of international supp
 ort. \n\n\n\nFounded in 1981\, PBI has many years of experience working a
 longside human rights defenders\, opening and protecting space for peace\,
  conflict transformation and the defence of human rights in 14 countries. 
 We are a life-saving international presence in areas of conflict and repre
 ssion\, and a powerful global advocacy network protecting those on the gro
 und. We have worked in Nicaragua\, El Salvador\, Sri Lanka\, North America
 \, Haiti\, Nepal and the Balkans as well as our current field projects in 
 Colombia\, Guatemala\, Honduras\, Indonesia\, Kenya\, Mexico and Nepal. \
 n\n\n\nSpeaker Biographies:\n\n\n\n\n\nCostan Fakrian Raharusun is an arti
 st and teacher\, working a lot with painting\, sculpture\, installations a
 nd also theatrical production. He is also an art teacher who challenges th
 e national education system by stressing the importance of indigenous know
 ledge. To support the preservation of West Papuan art and culture\, he is 
 introducing Mambesak\, Black Brothers\, senior West Papuan artists\, etc i
 n his teaching curriculum. Through his art\, he depicts the current situat
 ion experienced by West Papuan’s\, from present injustice to preservatio
 n of culture and identity. He is part of the West Papuan art collective\, 
 Udeido Collective and one of the founders of Labirin Art\, an art collecti
 ve in Fakfak. \n\n\n\nSamuel Yohanes Glenn is active in refining and revis
 iting the “sounds of Papua” that breathes life into his work. ‘Amids
 t the wave of modernization\, I have taken on a crucial role as a craftsma
 n and preserver of Papuan cultural artifacts—objects that might be fadin
 g from the interest of my generation\, but find their soul once again in m
 y hands. I am not merely making art\; I am preserving memories and keeping
  the spirit of Papua alive\, even when I am far from home.’ \n\n\n\n\n\n

 ngs of Empowerment is a workshop conducted by Colm Quearney\, a workshop f
 acilitator and Development and Outreach Officer with Fighting Words. At th
 is workshop\, participants have the opportunity to look at the history of 
 songs that empower and will draw on these themes to create their own songs
  relevant to today’s generation. The workshop takes place on Saturday 10
  October 2026  from 12 noon to 2pm  and is conducted onsite at Fighting 
 Words\, Behan Square\, 12-16 Russell Street Dublin. \n\n\n\nSongs and musi
 c have played a powerful role in human rights movements\, giving a univers
 al voice\, crossing barriers and promoting unity and equality. At this wor
 kshop\, teenagers will look at the history of protest songs\, and draw on 
 these themes to create their own songs relevant to today’s (their) gener
 ation. No previous song writing experience is required. However\, feel fre
 e to bring along any instruments or lyrical ideas you might have. \n\n\n\n
 This event is presented by Fighting Words Fighting Words provides free pro
 grammes and mentoring in creative writing and related arts to as many chil
 dren\, young adults and adults with additional needs as we can reach. \n\n
 \n\nSpeaker Biographies:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nColm Quearney grew up in\,
  and still lives in\, Dublin. As a songwriter and musician Colm has releas
 ed five original albums of music and has contributed to original albums wi
 th bands and artists including Lir\, Dragonfly DC\, Square Pegs\, Colm Mac
  Con Iomaire\, Pugwash\, Thomas Walsh\, The Pale and Bronagh Gallagher. \n
 \n\n\nAs a writer Colm has written a musical for teenagers that was produc
 ed twice by the Gaiety School of Acting. Composed and written a radio musi
 cal series for RTÉjr in 2024\, and written a play that was performed at T
 he Gate Theatre\, Dublin 2025. \n\n\n\nBetween 2011 and 2018 Colm worked a
 s head of the song writing department at BIMM Dublin (British & Irish Mode
 rn Music Institute). Colm now works for Fighting Words as Development and

 Details\n\n\n\nJoin us for a ‘One Night Stand’! This is an inspiring a
 fternoon and evening of theatre\, creativity\, and dialogue with internati
 onally acclaimed theatre-maker Frédérique Lecomte\, founder and Artistic
  Director of Théâtre & Réconciliation. Presented by Smashing Times Inte
 rnational Centre for the Arts and Equality as part of the 2026 Irish Arts 
 and Human Rights Festival\, this unique event offers participants the oppo
 rtunity to engage directly with one of Europe’s leading socially engaged
  theatre practitioners. \n\n\n\nLed by Frédérique Lecomte\, Théâtre & 
 Réconciliation is an award-winning Belgian theatre company dedicated to s
 ocial engagement\, artistic innovation\, and community empowerment. Throug
 h original theatrical creation\, the company works with diverse communitie
 s in both conflict zones and peaceful settings\, using theatre as a powerf
 ul tool for dialogue\, transformation\, and shared humanity. \n\n\n\nThe e
 vent begins with a practical theatre workshop (3–6pm) that Frédérique 
 Lecomte joyfully refers to as a ‘one night stand’ where theatre is mad
 e in a short space of time and  where participants explore movement\, imp
 rovisation\, collaborative performance-making\, and socially engaged artis
 tic methodologies in a supportive and accessible environment.  Themes exp
 lored include the concept of a shared European identity and European value
 s of human dignity\, equality\, gender equality\, human rights\, diversity
 \, democracy and peace.  The workshop culminates in a live improvised pub
 lic performance (7.30–9.30pm)\, presented by the participants themselves
  and open to all audiences. The workshop is open to theatre and art studen
 ts and practitioners\, youth and community groups\, members of civil socie
 ty organisations and individual members of the public who are interested i
 n discovering more about the work. Please note that the workshop is open t

 .  \n\n\n\nThis is a rare opportunity to work closely with an internationa
 lly recognised artist while exploring themes of European identity and shar

 erformance  is followed by a panel discussion and Q&A featuring Frédéri
 que Lecomte and Mary Moynihan of Smashing Times International Centre for t

 le of the arts in fostering inclusion\, reconciliation\, and social change

  a collaborative European initiative between Smashing Times International

 rédérique LeComte is the founder and main facilitator of the Theatre and
  Reconciliation method. She is a sociologist\, writer and stage director f
 rom Belgium. She is an expert in rebuilding traumatised and conflicted com
 munities\, organising theatre workshops and performances both with and for
  the community in war areas all over the world. In these areas\, Frédéri
 que creates a safe space where everyone is free to speak – victims of to
 rture\, torturers\, people displaced and prisoners alike. She aims to use 
 theatre to discuss issues such as justice\, trauma\, elections\, land and 
 ethnic conflicts. In Belgium\, she works with prisoners\, psychiatric pati
 ents\, diasporas\, illegal migrants and asylum seekers. Frédérique also 
 offers training and conferences about Theatre and Reconciliation for NGOs\

 a documentary about Indigenous communities in South Papua and the impact o
 f the Proyek Strategis Nasional (PSN) or National Strategic Project on the
 ir life and land. The film follows five indigenous people as forests are c
 leared for plantations\, food-estate programs\, and other industrial proje
 cts. It explores concerns about environmental damage\, loss of traditional
  livelihoods\, and threats to Indigenous culture. The filmmakers argue tha
 t these developments resemble a modern form of colonialism because local c
 ommunities often have limited control over decisions affecting their land.
  Overall\, the documentary raises questions about the balance between econ
 omic development and the rights of Indigenous peoples. The screening will 
 be followed by Q&A with defenders from West Papua. \n\n\n\nThis event is p

 practice across Europe. \n  \n\n\n\nSpeaker Biographies:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\
 n\n\n\nFrédérique LeComte is the founder and main facilitator of the The
 atre and Reconciliation method. She is a sociologist\, writer and stage di
 rector from Belgium. She is an expert in rebuilding traumatised and confli
 cted communities\, organising theatre workshops and performances both with
  and for the community in war areas all over the world. In these areas\, F
 rédérique creates a safe space where everyone is free to speak – victi
 ms of torture\, torturers\, people displaced and prisoners alike. She aims
  to use theatre to discuss issues such as justice\, trauma\, elections\, l
 and and ethnic conflicts. In Belgium\, she works with prisoners\, psychiat
 ric patients\, diasporas\, illegal migrants and asylum seekers. Frédériq
 ue also offers training and conferences about Theatre and Reconciliation f

 the premiere of Trócaire’s powerful new documentary film\, End Fossil P
 ower\, followed by an inspiring panel discussion on climate justice and th
 e transition to a clean\, renewable future. Complimentary food and refresh

  October 2026\, 7-8.30pm\, at Flux Dublin\, 4 Chatham Row\, Dublin 2\, D02
 PA06 for the 2026 Irish Arts and Human Rights festival. \n\n\n\nThe docume
 ntary highlights how climate change is driving poverty and injustice acros
 s the globe – particularly in countries like Malawi. Communities there h
 ave done the least to cause this global emergency\, yet they are on the fr
 ontlines as climate-related disaster hit. The documentary critically exami
 nes the role of the fossil fuel industry in delaying vital climate action.
  \n\n\n\nThe documentary screening is followed by a panel discussion on ho
 w we can collectively take action to end fossil power and transition to a 
 world powered by clean\, renewable energy. Food and refreshments will be a
 vailable before the screening. \n\n\n\nTrócaire emphasizes that the clima
 te crisis is a profound human rights crisis because it causes widespread d
 enial of basic rights—such as food\, water\, health\, and safety—in vu
 lnerable communities who did the least to cause global emissions. Wealthy 
 nations and major corporations hold responsibility for excess emissions\, 
 yet poor countries in the Global South suffer the most severe droughts\, f
 loods\, and loss of livelihoods. \n\n\n\nThis event is presented by Tróca
 ire \n\n\n\nTrócaire is an International Non-Governmental Organisation (I
 NGO). We work with local partners in the world’s most at-risk communitie
 s and with people in Ireland to tackle the underlying causes of poverty an
 d injustice and respond to the crises they create. Together we bring about
  positive and lasting change for a just world. Trócaire is the Irish lang
 uage word for “compassion”. Since it was founded by the Irish Catholic
  Bishops in 1973\, Trócaire has put the compassion of the Irish people in

 mbers of Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community. \n\n\n\nSince the start of 2026 art
 ist Kiz Rutherford has been creating a series of portraits of members of I
 relands queer community in response to the rising anti-LGBTQIA + violence 
 and rhetoric\, and the simultaneous reduction in rights and systemic oppre
 ssion of our global community. This project is for the community by the co
 mmunity and serves as a vital artistic response to the alarming global ris
 e in anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric\, systemic policy shifts\, and targeted violen
 ce—from political rollbacks in the US and UK\, to local struggles like I
 reland’s gender-affirming care waitlists\, and recent tragedies like Ber
 lin Pride. Standing firmly on the principle that trans and queer rights ar
 e human rights\, The Queer Portrait Project showcases and illustrates the 
 profound diversity\, strength\, and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community in 
 the face of growing oppression and hate. \n\n\n\nThe 2026 Irish Arts and H

  writes \n\n\n\n\nThere is undoubtedly a massive recent shift towards homo
 phobia and transphobia on a global scale at a policy level that has encour
 aged and enabled hatred at all levels of society to be seen as acceptable.
  In my lifetime we saw an increase in rights and acceptance for the queer 
 community but things have dramatically shifted recently from the systemic 
 erasure of the communities history and rights to the oppression on a daily
  basis. This is clearly seen at a policy level in the US and UK and elsewh
 ere while the Irish continues to fights its own battles with the huge wait
 ing lists for gender affirming care. Trans rights and queer rights are hum
 an rights\, I write this in the aftermath of the tragedy at Berlin pride\,
  feeling more fiercely than ever that we must continue to fight. \n\n\n\n\
 nArtist Biographies:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBased in Dublin\, Kiz Rutherfo
 rd creates figurative paintings and drawings exploring the interplay betwe
 en light and darkness. Their work\, particularly the “We’re Losing the
  Light” series\, captures the emotional resonance found in fleeting mome
 nts of illumination against shadow. Through portraiture and life drawing\,
  Kiz examines how light shapes our perception of form and feeling\, reveal
 ing both vulnerability and strength in human subjects. Their project\, the
  Queer Portrait Project\, recently previewed at Rua Red\, extends their pr
 actice to create intimate\, affirming portraits of LGBTQ+ individuals. Com
 mitted to fostering artistic community\, Kiz also runs weekly life drawing
