 celebrating IMMA’s Permanent Collection as a source of agency and knowle
 dge. Featuring over 100 artists\, from the 1960s to the present\, it highl
 ights key works\, including many recent acquisitions. This ambitious exhi
 bition invites engagement and research over time\, allowing for a rich dur
 ational experience of Ireland’s Modern and Contemporary Art Collection.\
 n\nThrough thematic\, chronological\, geographical\, and media-based appro
 aches\, the exhibition examines how artworks connect across time and conte
 xts\, fostering new interpretations and relevance. Works from the 1960s to
  the 1980s evoke the foundational story of the Irish art world. While ackn
 owledging the context of the modernist\, predominantly male dominance of t
 hat era\, the exhibition also spotlights the material innovation and socia
 lly engaged practices of others who persisted despite the relatively conse
 rvative status quo.\n\nThe exhibition also presents more recent practice t
 hat explores urgent global themes such as gender\, hybridity\, cultural hi
 stories\, de-colonialism\, diaspora\, migration\, food injustice\, climate
 \, and ecological change. Memory\, imagination\, and storytelling play piv
 otal roles in these works\, offering generative ways to process fragmentat
 ion\, dislocation\, and survival in unfamiliar spaces. New and existing wo
 rks in the IMMA grounds will extend these themes.\n\nThe exhibition includ
 es a specially created ‘white cube’ gallery space inspired by Brian O
 ’Doherty’s renowned series of essays Inside the White Cube – The Id
 eology of the Gallery Space (1976)\, that critiques the auratic\, market-
 driven effects of the white cube gallery format. Likewise the choice of w
 orks curated for this space pushes back by highlighting works by Post-War 
 American women\, pioneering conceptualist artworks by Marcel Duchamp and B
 rian O’Doherty as well as a contemporary feminist response by Andrea Gey
 er.\n\nBy interweaving historical and contemporary narratives\, Art as Ag
 ency invites audiences to reflect on the evolving meanings and possibilit
 ies of art in shaping our understanding of and action in the world.\n\nOng

 que she creates the illusion of realistic embroidered tablecloth and lace 
 decorations with the aim of paying tribute to her late mother\, who was an
  embroidered artist\, and to celebrate the beauty of embroidery art which 
 is a very important part in her culture.

DESCRIPTION:Exhibition runs 27/08/26-19/09/26.\nThe work for this exhibiti
 on looks at the female body as it collides with institutional policies and
  procedures. The sculptures reflect the traumatised birth with its intrusi
 ve procedures resulting in the loss of bodily autonomy. \nWomen’s bo
 dies are a landscape\, a site of contention and control. It is within ma
 ternity institutions where interventions\, policy\, procedure and tole
 rances dominate and leave women outside of decisions made about their bodi
 es. \nLorraine Parker is an emerging visual artist based in Cork. In 202
 1 she graduated from MTU Crawford College of Art and Design (CCAD) with a 
 BA First Class Hons in Contemporary Applied Art

 e experience them. The term was first coined by the Marxist theorist Guy D
 ebord in 1955\, a founding member of the Situationist movement who were a 
 group of revolutionary minded artists that aimed to make radical culture a
  direct part of daily life. Debord\, and others influenced by him\, concen
 trated on urban environments but for this exhibition we have turned our at
 tention to the rural environment.

DESCRIPTION:“We do not care for what we do not know\, and on the whole w
 e do not know what we cannot name.” Robert Mcfarlane\, 2015 \n\n\n\nThe
  works in this exhibition are inspired by Róisín Lewis’s bicycle journ
 eys through the Irish landscape. During the summer\, she is struck by the 
 diversity of wildflowers she encounters.\n\n\n\nOn her travels\, Lewis wea
 rs a small field recorder. To distract herself from the effort of cycling\
 , she tests her botanical knowledge by naming out-loud each species that s
 he passes. The breathless determination captured in her voice recordings\,
  highlights the physical effort of climbing hills. The mental effort of re
 calling the names of flowers as she comes back downhill at speed is also c
 lear.\n\n\n\nAs she listens back to her recordings\, what appears in her m
 ind’s eye are not intricate botanical forms\, but sequences of bright co
 lours unfolding like a woven cloth. Lewis has experimented with ways of ma
 king textiles from plant fibres using traditional techniques such as twist
 ing\, looping and weaving. These slow\, repetitive processes are comparabl
 e to the rhythms of the body moving through the landscape.\n\n\n\nOpening

 n and refuse to be questioned.\nThe inspiration for the work comes from a 
 series of books by American sociologist Alvin Gouldner that addresses the

DESCRIPTION:For this new body of work\, stone sculptor Martin Lyttle draws
  on the ancient image of the cornucopia — the horn of plenty — as a st
 arting point for exploring abundance\, consumption and our relationship wi
 th the natural world.\nWorking in local stone and most usually from off-cu
 ts and waste material\, Lyttle has created a series of elegant hand-carved
  sculptures inspired by seeds\, fruits\, nuts and pods. These familiar for
 ms\, gathered from the natural world\, are transformed through stone into 
 objects of contemplation and touch. \nOpening 3 pm Saturday 12 Sept\, 2026

DESCRIPTION:Paul Seawright revisited and photographed the sites of Sectari
 an attacks during the 1970’s close to where the artist grew up in Belfas
 t. The texts accompanying each photograph are from newspaper reports at th
 e time and document the murders of innocent civilians\, killed for their p
 erceived religion. Reference to Protestant or Catholic background was remo
 ved from the text.Seawright is best known for his alternative visual analy
 sis of locations and subjects dominated by mainstream media. His photograp
 hs are devoid of obvious drama but loaded with implicit tension.

 f realistic embroidered tablecloth and lace decorations with the aim of pa
 ying tribute to her late mother\, who was an embroidered artist\, and to c
 elebrate the beauty of embroidery art which is a very important part in he
