 	\n \n \n \n \n \n This Week: Randy Burk & the Prisoners
 \n \n \n \n \n \n \nIn the rich tradition of artists like
Steve Earle\, Johnny Cash\, and Dave Alvin\, artist Randy Burk creates mu
sic that is at once exciting and familiar\, honest and soulful\, fearless
and introspective. Burk has an unparalleled blue-collar work ethic that he
’s easily applied to the cutthroat world of music with a midwestern sens
ibility that for the last 23 years has enabled him to play more than 200 s
hows a year across the Midwest\, West Coast\, and Europe with the Prisoner
 s.  \nBurk’s affinity for songs about love\, life\, pain\, and good ol
’ hard work can be traced to his small-town Iowa roots. Born and raised
in Atlantic\, Iowa\, Burk spent much of his youth singing in the church an
d listening to his father’s collection of Elvis Presley 8 tracks. These
roots he never abandoned even while sharing the stage with artists from Bi
g Smith to Jason Aldean. Roots that ground honesty to his songwriting and
humility across the thousands of miles and thousands of shows.  \n“My b
oots have known mostly rocky roads\, but that makes the songs come easy so
metimes\,” Burk says. In 2012 Randy Burk and the Prisoners won the Artis
tSignal.com 90-day competition for $25\,000\, which helped them release th
eir 3rd album “Money\, Heart & Soul.” Burk and the Prisoners are slate
d to release their highly anticipated 5th album this winter. \n\n \n

or games and talking with our counterparts across the country\, we knew th
is would be a great fit to host in Des Moines. Who doesn’t love a garage
sale?! \nWhen do I drop off my games again? Game drop off is Wednesday\,
September 16 through Wednesday\, September 23 during regular open hour at
the Rook Room. \nI am having an issue with the form\, what should I do? If
you are having issues submitting to form that persist\, you can send a co
py of your Game List directly to events@therookroom.com. You can find that
template here. \nHow do I price my games? You will fill out the games pri
cing sheet linked here and above. This helps our team keep track of your g
ames to pay you and makes our set up run smoothly. It is up to you how to
price your games\, but our general recommendation is between 50-75% of mar
ket value depending on the wear and quality of your game. \nCan I price my
game above $30? We do allow you to do that. You will fill the price you w
ant to sell your game for in the notes section of your Game List! Be caref
ul\, though\, to price everything to sell if you want to see a return. \nW
hat if I don’t want the games that don’t sell? We can donate your unso
ld games to local nonprofits like The Beacon\, Senior Center\, and youth p
rogramming! \nI don’t want the money from sales. Can I just donate my cu
t? Yes\, you sure can. We’ll will use any profits to continue our missio
n of providing an accessible\, community-oriented third place with great g
ames\, food\, and drinks for the greater Des Moines area! \nHow do I get p
aid? You will receive your payout after October 1 through Venmo. You will
provide your Venmo account on the google form. This is the only payment op
tion we are offering for this Game Garage Sale. \nWhy am I only getting 60
% of the sale price of my games? The Rook Room team is putting a lot of ti
me and effort into making a great Game Garage sale for the community and h
osting it in our space\, so we want to pay our people for their time and m
ake sure we can continue to host exciting events like this for the communi
ty! \nHow can I help? We love this question! If you are interested in hel
ping us inventory games\, support Garage Sale set up efforts\, or spread t
he word\, we love all of those options. Email events@therookroom.com to ge
t more information. \nCan you help me\, I have a different question!? Fear
not! Email events@therookroom.com and we will get your question answered.

as released in summer of 2016. In 2017 Ari was named one of “The World
’s 10 Top CEOs (They Lead in a Totally Unique Way)” by Inc. Magazine.
In 2018 he released the pamphlet\, “The Art of Business\; Why I Want to
be an Artist.” Another pamphlet\, “Going into Business with Emma Goldm
 an” came out in June\, 2019. “Humility\; A Humble\, Anarchistic Inquir
y” came out in October 2020. “Working Through Hard Times\; Life and Le
 adership Learnings from 2020” was published in the first weeks of 2021\;
“The Story of Visioning at Zingerman’s: Four Visions\, Forty Years\,
and a Positive Look Towards the Future\,” in 2022\; “A Taste of Zinger
man’s Food Philosophy: Forty Years of Mindful Cooking and Eating” in 2
 023. “A Revolution of Dignity in the Twenty-First Century Workplace” w
as released in March of 2024. 2025 saw the release is the chapbook\, “Li
fe Lessons I Learned from Being a Line Cook.” His newest publication is
the pamphlet\, “Why Democracy Matters.” \nAri\, along with his partner
Paul Saginaw\, founded Zingerman’s Delicatessen with a $20\,000 bank lo
an\, a Russian History degree from the University of Michigan\, 4 years of
experience washing dishes\, cooking and managing in restaurant kitchens a
nd chutzpah from his hometown of Chicago. They opened the doors with 2 emp
loyees\, a small selection of specialty foods\, and exceptional sandwiches
. \nToday\, Zingerman’s Delicatessen is a nationally renowned food icon
and the Zingerman’s Community of Businesses has grown to 11 businesses w
ith over 800 employees and over $80 million in annual revenue. Aside from
the Delicatessen\, these businesses include Zingerman’s Bakehouse\, Coff
 ee and Candy Company\, Roadhouse\, Mail Order\, ZingTrain\, Cornman Farms\
, Miss Kim\, Food Tours\, and Zingerman’s Service Network. No two busine
sses in the Zingerman’s Community of Businesses are alike\, but they all
share the same Vision and Guiding Principles and deliver “The Zingerman
’s Experience” with passion and commitment. \nAri regularly travels ac
ross the country (and world) on behalf of ZingTrain\, teaching organizatio
ns and businesses about Zingerman’s approach to business. He is a sought
-after Keynote speaker\, having delivered keynotes for Inc. 500\, Microsof
t Expo Spring Conference\, Great Game of Business Gathering of Games\, Pos
itive Business Conference at the University of Michigan Ross School of Bus
iness\, American Society for Quality (ASQ)\, and the American Cheese Socie
ty. \nNotwithstanding the awards\, being engaged on a daily basis in the w
ork of 10 businesses with 19 partners\, writing books on business and in-d
epth articles on food for the Zingerman’s newsletter\, Ari finds time to
be a voracious reader. He acquires and reads more books than he can find
room for. Ari might soon find himself the owner of the largest collection
of Anarchist books in Ann Arbor outside the Labadie collection at the Univ
ersity of Michigan library! \n\nJoining Ari in conversation will be Mike D
raper\, the founder and owner of RAYGUN\, which has been called ‘The Gr
eatest Store in the Universe’ by RAYGUN. In business since 2005\, the co
mpany has been steadily growing since then\, to surprise of just about eve
ryone — Mike included. All in all\, he’s been able to do all sorts of
neat things and meet all sorts of neat people without ever really leaving
 Des Moines.”

a\, and regularly perform in the surrounding area. \nWhat kind of events d
oes Gut Feeling perform at?We play at a variety of events\, including priv
ate parties\, corporate functions\, weddings\, festivals and live music ve
nues. If you’re looking for a great band to liven up your event\, we’r
e here for you! \nWhat is a typical setlist for your performances?Setlists
include iconic rock and pop songs from the final decades of the 20th cent
ury. They feature crowd-pleasing hits from bands like The Cars\, Stevie Ni

but don’t hear performed as often. Let us know if you’d like to see a
