 	\n \n \n \n \n \n This Week: Randy Burk & the Prisoners
 \n \n \n \n \n \n \nIn the rich tradition of artists like
Steve Earle\, Johnny Cash\, and Dave Alvin\, artist Randy Burk creates mu
sic that is at once exciting and familiar\, honest and soulful\, fearless
and introspective. Burk has an unparalleled blue-collar work ethic that he
’s easily applied to the cutthroat world of music with a midwestern sens
ibility that for the last 23 years has enabled him to play more than 200 s
hows a year across the Midwest\, West Coast\, and Europe with the Prisoner
 s.  \nBurk’s affinity for songs about love\, life\, pain\, and good ol
’ hard work can be traced to his small-town Iowa roots. Born and raised
in Atlantic\, Iowa\, Burk spent much of his youth singing in the church an
d listening to his father’s collection of Elvis Presley 8 tracks. These
roots he never abandoned even while sharing the stage with artists from Bi
g Smith to Jason Aldean. Roots that ground honesty to his songwriting and
humility across the thousands of miles and thousands of shows.  \n“My b
oots have known mostly rocky roads\, but that makes the songs come easy so
metimes\,” Burk says. In 2012 Randy Burk and the Prisoners won the Artis
tSignal.com 90-day competition for $25\,000\, which helped them release th
eir 3rd album “Money\, Heart & Soul.” Burk and the Prisoners are slate
d to release their highly anticipated 5th album this winter. \n\n \n

 	\n \n \n \n \n \n This Week: Gut Feeling\n \n \n
\n \n \n \nAn FAQ with Gut Feeling\nWhat type of music does Gut
Feeling play?Gut Feeling is a cover band specializing in rock and pop hit
 s from the ’70s\, ’80s and ’90s. Expect high-energy performances of
classic favorites as well as less-covered hits that get everyone singing a
nd dancing! \nWhere is Gut Feeling based? We’re based in Des Moines\, Iow
a\, and regularly perform in the surrounding area. \nWhat kind of events d
oes Gut Feeling perform at?We play at a variety of events\, including priv
ate parties\, corporate functions\, weddings\, festivals and live music ve
nues. If you’re looking for a great band to liven up your event\, we’r
e here for you! \nWhat is a typical setlist for your performances?Setlists
include iconic rock and pop songs from the final decades of the 20th cent
ury. They feature crowd-pleasing hits from bands like The Cars\, Stevie Ni
cks\, AC/DC and more\, as well as those less-covered hits that we all love
but don’t hear performed as often. Let us know if you’d like to see a
sample setlist! \nHow long is a standard performance? Our typical performa
nce is about three hours long\, including breaks. However\, we can adjust
the length to fit your event needs. \nDo you take song requests or customi
zed setlists? We have an expansive list of songs available for your party.
Unfortunately\, we don’t take requests on the night of the event. Howeve
r\, if there are specific songs you’d like to hear\, please let us know
when booking\, and we’ll determine if we can add them for your show! Add
 itional fees may apply. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

 			\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Getting Here\nHere is th
e map link to our office in the heart of the Farmers Market. Find driving
routes and parking instructions. To keep everyone safe\, West Des Moines P
olice officers may ticket or tow vehicles parked: \n\nIn front of public o
r private driveways or mailboxes\nOn or across a sidewalk or on a crosswal
k at an intersection\nWithin or within 10 feet of an intersection of any s
treet or alley\nWithin 10 feet of a flashing beacon\, stop or yield sign o
r traffic control signal located at the side of a street\n\nWe know findin
g parking can be an issue on event days. If wanting to avoid parking conge
stion\, or driving isn’t an option\, the DART Route 4 Crosstown is ava
ilable\, which picks up and drops off near Fifth and Vine streets: \n \

help slinging drinks at Music in the Junction\, and your company or organi

DESCRIPTION:The exhibition (Not) At Home features the work of five artists
 : Katie Garth\, Lois Harada\, Tom Jones\, Sean Morrissey\, and Henry Payer
. The selected works offer a space to consider ideas of home and in many c
ases\, dislocation from home. The works also explore the tensions between
the built and natural environment. When grouped together\, the works offer
a space for reflection on how people interact with the land and how feeli
ngs of home and placemaking can be seen in the context of dislocation and
displacement. (Not) At Home is curated by Lilah Anderson. The exhibition w
ill be on display at the Anderson Gallery in the Harmon Fine Arts Center a
t Drake University from Sept 11 to Oct 18\, Sun to Sat from 12-4pm and unt

s! Rattlesnakes! Martians! But when Simon is forced to venture from his ho
me\, he sees that not everything is quite what he expected. If the worst t
hing ever is out there waiting for him\, maybe the best thing ever is\, to
o? \nIn this richly illustrated story about expectations and embracing new
experiences\, Jaime Zollars offers young readers a way to explore feeling
s of uncertainty—and reminds them that what if? is a question with man
y happy answers. \nJaime Zollars creates picture books for curious readers
. Through the conversation between words and pictures\, her stories invite
children to look twice\, question first impressions\, and discover new la
yers with every reading. Using visual metaphor\, humor\, and imagination\,
Jaime explores courage\, uncertainty\, and the small shifts in perspectiv
e that help us better understand ourselves and one another. She is the aut
hor and illustrator of the Little\, Brown picture books The Truth About Dr
agons and Maybe Monsters. A former illustration professor at the Maryland
Institute College of Art (MICA)\, Jaime enjoys sharing the creative proces
s with young readers and encouraging them to tell stories that only they c
 an tell.

DESCRIPTION:On Thursday September 24 at 6:00 pm in Aliber 101 (2847 Univer
sity Ave)\, The Comparison Project and Zimpleman College of Business host
the first event of their 2026–2028 series "Prophets & Profits\," a panel
dialogue featuring local insurance industry executives. The series is gen
erously supported by the Joel W. Peterson Trust. \n\nInsurance does more t
han calculate probabilities and pay claims. It determines how uncertainty\
, vulnerability\, and financial loss are shared—and who will be protecte
d when catastrophe strikes. Decisions about pricing\, coverage\, exclusion
s\, claims\, and capital therefore involve not only technical and commerci
al judgments\, but also fundamental questions of fairness\, responsibility
\, trust\, and human dignity.\n\nThis opening panel in the Prophets & Prof
its series will bring together experienced insurance executives to explore
how their personal moral and religious convictions inform the difficult d
ecisions they face as leaders. How do they balance actuarial discipline an
d financial sustainability with compassion and social responsibility? Are
there ethical limits to risk-based pricing\, even when it is economically
justified? What responsibilities do insurers have to individuals and commu
nities facing risks they cannot reasonably bear alone?\n\nDrawing on both
personal experience and professional expertise\, the panelists will consid
er how these tensions shape their leadership\, their organizations\, the i
nsurance industry\, and the communities they serve—especially in a world
confronting growing climate volatility\, healthcare costs\, and interconn
ected economic risks.\n\nPanelists for the event include: \n\nScott Jean i
s President and CEO of EMC Insurance Companies\, where he has served since
beginning his career as an actuary in 1991. A graduate of Iowa State Univ
ersity\, he is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of
the American Academy of Actuaries.\n\nNick Gerhart is Chief Operating Offi
cer of Homesteaders Life Company and previously served as Chief Administra
tive Officer at FBL Financial Group and Commissioner of the Iowa Insurance
Division. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern
Iowa and both law and health-administration degrees from Saint Louis Unive
rsity.\n\nChristian Walk is Senior Vice President\, Legal and Associate Ge
neral Counsel at Global Atlantic Financial Group\, as well as a respected
leader in Iowa’s insurance community. An attorney and ordained minister\
, he brings a distinctive perspective on the intersection of professional
 responsibility\, faith\, and ethical leadership.\n\nJason Giles is a share
holder at Nyemaster Goode whose corporate practice encompasses insurance\,
mergers and acquisitions\, commercial transactions\, governance\, and ris
k assessment. A Drake MBA and law graduate\, he is active in his church an
d religious organizations and previously served a two-year mission in Ecua
