DESCRIPTION:Bringing together ten contemporary artists who utilize discard
ed materials to explore the intersections of art\, environmental activism\
, and human impact on nature\, Sequesterings challenges viewers to confron
t our world’s ecological crisis through the lens of radical transformati
on. With diverse works ranging from delicately stitched collages and color
ful hand-woven textiles to large-scale sculptures\, the artists in Sequest
erings act as environmental stewards and aesthetic scavengers. They reclai
m what society thoughtlessly discards\, transforming obsolescence into opp
ortunity.\n\nThe exhibition features work by Twyla Exner\, Calder Kamin\,
Natalya Khorover\, Blue McRight\, Anna Mein\, Kelsey Merreck Wagner\, Pame
la "Posey" Moulton\, Portia Munson\, Aurora Robson\, and Ian Trask\, whose
individual art practices unite to present a global issue on an intimate s
cale\, creating a vision of optimism within a harsh reality.\n\nSequesteri
ngs was curated by Cecily Cullen and Aurora Robson and will be on view at
 CVA August 6- October 24\, 2026.

ts\, and that includes our church buildings and property. Like any gift fr
om God\, we are called to steward and use those gifts in ways that benefit
  the church\, the community\, and ultimately God’s Kingdom.\nBut to do t
hat\, we need your help. \nA church’s vision can’t come from a pastor
\, an individual\, or even a committee. For our vision to be faithful and
successful\, it needs to arise out of prayer and discernment as we\, toget
 her\, seek God’s direction.\nThat’s why we’re inviting everyone to j
oin us for one of three upcoming Denver Dreams sessions. These gatherings
are opportunities to dream\, imagine\, and share as we think about the fut
ure of our church campus. \nThese sessions are about so much more than ju
st buildings. They’re centered on asking the bigger questions:  Who is
God calling us to be? How can our campus better serve our mission to be a
harbor of hope in a chaotic world? And what might our church look and feel
like if we designed it around the people and ministries we hope to welcom

DESCRIPTION:Walking into a dance studio for the first time can feel intimi
dating. You watch experienced dancers glide across the floor and wonder if
you will ever look that comfortable. That little voice inside asks\, “W
hat if I have no rhythm? What if I step on my partner’s toes? What if ev
eryone else already knows what they are doing?” It is completely normal
to feel nervous\, but here is the truth: every single advanced dancer star
ted exactly where you are right now. They walked through the same doors\,
felt the same butterflies\, and made the same beginner mistakes.\nThe diff
erence between someone who learns to dance and someone who stays on the si
delines is not talent. It is simply the decision to take that first step.
This article will walk you through five common mistakes beginners make dur
ing their first few dance lessons\, and more importantly\, how you can avo
id them. Whether you want to learn ballroom\, Latin\, swing\, or country\,
these tips will help you feel more confident and enjoy the journey from d
ay one. \nThe 5 Common Beginner Mistakes (and How to Overcome Them)\nMista
ke 1: Staring Continuously at Your Feet\nIt is the most natural instinct i
n the world. You are learning a new step\, your brain is working overtime\
, and you want to make sure your feet land exactly where they should. So y
ou look down\, and you keep looking down. The problem is that staring at y
our feet actually throws off your balance. When your head drops\, your sho
ulders hunch forward\, and your center of gravity shifts. Instead of feeli
ng the music and moving as one unit\, you become stiff and top-heavy. \nTh
e solution: Train your eyes to look up. Pick a spot on the wall at eye lev
el or focus on your partner’s shoulder or face. When you lift your gaze\
, your posture automatically improves\, and your body can relax into the m
ovement. You will quickly discover that your feet know more than you think
\, and trusting your body is the first step to dancing with confidence. In
structors at Colorado DanceSport encourage this from the very first lesson
\, because looking up is the fastest way to build real balance and connect
ion with the music. \nMistake 2: Expecting Too Much\, Too Fast\nYou watch
a YouTube video or see a couple performing a flawless tango\, and you want
to dance like that by next week. But dancing is a physical skill\, and ph
ysical skills require repetition and patience. Your brain needs time to bu
ild muscle memory. Expecting perfection in your first few lessons sets you
up for unnecessary frustration and can even make you want to quit. \nThe
solution: Embrace the learning process as part of the fun. Progress in dan
ce is rarely a straight line. Some moves click instantly\, while others ta
ke weeks to feel natural. Celebrate small wins\, like maintaining a steady
rhythm or remembering a new pattern without your instructor’s guidance.
Colorado DanceSport structures its beginner lessons so that you walk away
with at least one achievable win every session. That feeling of progress\
, no matter how small\, keeps you motivated and coming back for more. \nMi
stake 3: Apologizing Constantly to Your Partner or Teacher\n“I’m sorry
!” “Oh\, I messed up again.” “Sorry\, I stepped on you.” This is
the most common verbal habit new dancers develop\, and it does more harm
than good. Apologizing every time you make a mistake puts you in a negativ
e headspace and can make your partner feel like they need to reassure you
instead of focusing on the dance. \nThe solution: Reframe mistakes as info
rmation. Every misstep tells you something: your weight transfer was off\,
you rushed the beat\, or your frame broke. That is not a failure\; it is
simply data to adjust for the next try. There are no mistakes in learning\
, only adjustments. Your instructor and partner are there to help you impr
ove\, not to judge you. At Colorado DanceSport\, the environment is suppor
tive and judgment-free\, so you can relax and know that every stumble is j
ust a natural part of the process. Swap “I’m sorry” for “Okay\, le
t me try that again\,” and watch your confidence grow. \nMistake 4: Wear
ing the Wrong Footwear\nWhat you wear on your feet can make or break your
first dance lesson. Running shoes with thick rubber soles will stick to th
e floor and prevent you from turning or gliding smoothly. Flip-flops offer
no support and are a safety hazard. High heels without practice may throw
off your balance entirely. Many beginners show up in gym shoes and wonder
why they feel clunky and unable to pivot. \nThe solution: Choose shoes th
at allow your feet to slide just a little. Flat leather-soled shoes\, sued
e dance sneakers\, or comfortable dress shoes work well. If you are a woma
n starting out\, a low\, stable heel or a flat with a smooth sole is ideal
. You do not need expensive dance shoes right away. Just make sure your fo
otwear does not grip the floor like Velcro. Colorado DanceSport’s instru
ctors can give you specific recommendations based on the style you want to
learn\, so you start your lesson feeling prepared and safe. \nMistake 5:
Believing You Must Have “Natural Rhythm” to Start\nThis may be the mos
t damaging belief of all. Many people assume that rhythm is something you
are born with\, either you have it or you do not. Nothing could be further
from the truth. Rhythm is a learned skill\, just like riding a bike or ty
ping on a keyboard. It is a mechanical understanding of timing and weight
changes that can be taught step by step. \nThe solution: Trust that your i
nstructor can teach you rhythm. At Colorado DanceSport\, beginner lessons
break music down into simple counts\, focusing on basic weight transfers b
efore adding steps. You will learn to hear the beat\, feel the pulse\, and
move your body in time\, even if you have never done it before. Countless
students who walked in claiming they had “two left feet” have become
confident dancers through patient instruction. The key is to let go of the
idea that rhythm is a gift and accept it as a skill you can develop. \n \
nPhoto by Anna on Pexels\n\nThe Colorado DanceSport Experience: A Safe Pla
ce to Learn\nColorado DanceSport in Denver and Littleton is built on the b
elief that anyone can learn to dance. The studio specializes in teaching b
eginners from scratch\, whether you come alone\, with a partner\, or as pa
rt of a group. Private lessons and group classes are available in ballroom
 \, Latin\, country\, swing\, and wedding choreography\, and no partner is
ever required. Every step is broken down into simple\, achievable blocks s
o that even your first lesson ends with a real sense of accomplishment. \n
Instructors at Colorado DanceSport know that the biggest barrier for most
new dancers is fear\, not ability. That is why the atmosphere is warm\, en
couraging\, and completely free of judgment. Whether you are learning a ba
sic box step in a private lesson or joining a beginner group class\, you w
ill be surrounded by people who understand exactly how you feel. The studi
o’s inclusive approach makes it the perfect place to take those first br
ave steps. \nThe biggest mistake of all is not stepping on your partner’
s foot or forgetting a pattern. The biggest mistake is letting fear keep y
ou sitting on the sidelines when you could be out on the floor\, moving to
music and having fun. You have already taken the first step by reading th
is article. Now it is time to take the next one. Explore Colorado DanceSpo
rt’s beginner-friendly introductory packages\, check out the class calen
dar\, and fill out the contact form to reserve your first low-pressure\, i
ntroductory private lesson today. Your dance journey starts with one step.

\n\nFrequently Asked Questions\nDo I need a partner to take beginner dance
lessons?\nNo. Many studios\, including Colorado DanceSport\, encourage be
ginners to come alone. Group classes often rotate partners so you can lear
n with different people\, and private lessons are one-on-one with an instr
uctor. You will never be turned away because you do not have a partner. \n
What should I wear to my first dance lesson?\nWear comfortable clothing th
at allows you to move freely\, such as a t-shirt and pants or a skirt. Cho
ose shoes with smooth soles that slide easily on the floor. Avoid thick ru
bber-soled athletic shoes or sandals. Your instructor can advise on proper
footwear once you begin. \nHow long does it take to become a good dancer?
\nThere is no fixed timeline\, but most beginners see noticeable improveme
nt after just a few lessons. Rhythm and muscle memory develop with regular
practice. The key is to enjoy each step of the learning process rather th
an rushing toward a distant goal. Consistency matters more than natural ta
 lent.

th the healing power of sound\, offering a transformative experience for b
oth body and mind. Through a gentle series of Qigong movements\, participa
nts will learn to cultivate energy\, enhance flexibility\, and restore bal
ance to their bodies. These mindful movements\, rooted in Chinese traditio

Consistency matters more than natural ta
 lent.

Consistency matters more than natural ta
 lent.

DESCRIPTION:PPAN’s Bumble Bee Bash is a magical evening of bumblebees\,
 beverages\, bluegrass\, and bug people 🐝 (I know we’re taking it a li
ttle far with the alliteration\, but it’s so hard not to\, for an organi
zation working at the intersection of people\, plants\, policy\, pollinato
 rs\, and pesticides.) \nAlliteration aside\, this is the moment you’ve b
een waiting for. Whether this is your first Bash or your 10th\, we want to
celebrate with you in style on September 19th! (But like\, early—4:30pm
  start—so we can all still get a good night’s sleep : ) \n \nThe Bum
ble Bee Bash is a beloved tradition for PPAN because it’s not just a fun
draiser—and it’s also not your average farm dinner. You won’t find y
ourself waiting in a seat to be served (although there will be plenty of c
hairs to rest in). You won’t be put on the spot for a paddle-raise. And
you won’t leave feeling like you’ve just checked a box to support an i
mportant cause. \nWhat you will find is friends—chosen community of like
minded souls who care deeply about this world and recognize the foundation
al role that healthy pollinator populations play in wild\, urban\, and agr
icultural ecosystems \n🎟️ Learn more and get tickets here! https://gi

DESCRIPTION:Join us in welcoming Brigitte Benson as our final Artist on th
 e Rise performance for 2026! \nBrigitte Benson is a singer/songwriter and
jazz musician whose sound lives at the crossroads of folk\, funk\, and hea
rtfelt storytelling. Based along Colorado’s Front Range\, she has spent
years playing shows up and down the region\, while slowly building a commu
nity—one song and one listener at a time.\nBrigitte’s music is rooted
in honesty. Her lyrics lean into vulnerability\, connection\, and the smal
l truths that make people feel seen. With a background in jazz and a love
for raw\, acoustic textures\, her songs blend warm and captivating melodie
s with thoughtful\, reflective writing.\nIn the fall of 2026\, Brigitte is
set to release her first recorded music\, a EP titled “Quarter Life Cri
sis” she hopes will reach the people who resonate with sincerity\, soul\
, and the genuine human experience. Her greatest dream is to create music
that invites others in\, encourages connection\, and builds a space where
listeners can settle into the world she’s creating.  \nArtist on the Ri
se is a four-part summer series built to highlight local talent as they ga
in traction and acclaim throughout the industry. This series is Dairy Bloc
k’s favorite way to support local musicians and share in celebrating the
ir place in our city’s talented artist communities! \nLocated on the pat

DESCRIPTION:Door time: 6:30\nShow time: 7:30 \nBoulder Ballet launches its
2026–2027 season at Chautauqua Auditorium with [In]Human\, a bold and v
ersatile program that explores the intersection of instinct and identity t
hrough three striking contemporary works. \nThe evening opens with Over Gl
ow\, a refined yet playful exploration of movement and light. Set within a
shifting palette of color\, the work moves with exhilarating speed and ph
ysicality. Sleek ensemble passages and intimate duets reveal a world that
is both kinetic and luminous. \nIn Sun & Steel\, choreographer Ben Needham
-Wood reimagines and expands his earlier work into something primal and vi
sceral. Set to the hypnotic score of Philip Glass\, the piece dives into t
he tension between body and spirit – where flesh meets intention\, and s
trength meets surrender. Athletic and unrelenting\, it asks: where do we l
ocate ourselves within our own physical humanity? \nThe program concludes
with Natasha Adorlee’s How to Build a Dream Apparatus\, a richly theatri
cal and character-driven world inspired by the music of Andrew Bird. Five
distinct voices – The Builder\, The Dreamer\, The Mechanic\, The Perform
er\, and The Traveler – come together to construct something both myster
ious and alive. What begins as fragments evolves into a poetic\, shared cr
eation: part invention\, part sculpture\, part dream. \nDynamic and imagin
ative\, InHuman reveals the many ways we build meaning – through motion\
, connection\, and through the stories we carry in our bodies. \nTICKET PR
ICES ARE INCLUSIVE OF FEES. \n*Please note the Hop2Chautauqua shuttles do
not operate for this event. Parking is available immediately around Chauta

DESCRIPTION:Gather ’round the campfire as a mysterious narrator guides y
ou through “Frightening Tales to Share at Night!”\, a long form improv
comedy show that warps your cherished childhood memories into spine-tingl
ing tales of terror. \nInspired by classic ‘90s and 2000s kid-horror sho
ws like “Goosebumps” and “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”\, this full
y improvised show takes audience suggestions and turns them into hilarious
ly haunted stories—complete with ridiculous creatures\, melodramatic twi
sts\, and sometimes purposeful bad acting. \nIt’s like Are You Afraid of
the Dark? if the cast forgot their lines… because they never had any to
begin with. \nFunny\, fast\, and just the right amount of creepy—this s
how is perfect for anyone who grew up loving (or hiding from) the weird ki
ds’ horror of the ‘90s and early 2000s.
