DESCRIPTION:🌈 Queer Eyes of Compassion Affinity Sangha \nThis gathering
is a monthly meditation practice space for LGBTQIA+- queer\, transgender\
 , lesbian\, gay\, intersex\, gender non-conforming and similarly-identifie
d siblings. Our gatherings are typically on the fourth Wednesdays of every
month from 6:30-8:00 pm\, with optional tea time to follow. We are locate
 d at 2180 S University Blvd\, Denver\, CO 80210 (University Park United Me
thodist Church). To join our mailing list and learn about our upcoming mon
thly practice in the next email newsletter\, please fill out this form. \n
As an affinity group of the Eyes of Compassion Sangha\, we model our pract
ice after the Plum Village tradition founded by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh
. We typically follow a similar format to the Eyes of Compassion and Wake
 Up Sangha’s including a 20 minute sitting meditation\, 10 minutes of wal
king meditation\, a short reading\, and a practice of group shares called
deep listening/deep sharing. We will sometimes veer from this framework to
include other types of meditation\, small group sharing\, or even individ
ual reflection time if we feel it better suits the group. Our goal is that
this group is accessible to folks who are new to meditation\, this kind o
f practice\, mindfulness\, and spiritual groups OR those who have not felt
comfortable attending other such gatherings. If you have questions or con
cerns about what our meditation group looks like or are looking for other
meditation groups\, please connect with one of our facilitators either by
emailing queerEOC@gmail.com or chatting with us at the next gathering.

DESCRIPTION:A library friend mapping out lifelong learning for all - Wes B
rown \n\n	Wes Brown\, a long-time friend of the Denver Public Library and
Friends Foundation\, had a long and successful business career. He was a p
artner for several leading regional investment banking firms based in Denv
er and continues to serve on corporate boards. Throughout his adult life\,
he maintained a passion for maps and the history of exploration.  His in
terest began using maps as a mountaineer in High School. But by college\,
he began studying and collecting old maps and continues to this day. His a
ctive research has led to many publications\, frequent public presentation
s\, and serving on the boards of several national and international map or
ganizations including as an advisor to the Map and Geography Division of t
he Library of Congress. \nWes has served on both the Library Commission an
d the Friends Foundation Board and has donated to the library since 1989.
The relationship began through Wes’ use of the map collection for resear
ch. The Denver Public Library has a very strong\, nationally recognized\,
research quality map collection specializing in maps of Colorado and the W
est. This overlaps nicely with Wes’ collection. He has given maps on occ
asion to the library for years\, but at the end of his life plans to give
the remainder of his map collection to the library\, if not duplicates. \n
The DPL’s map collection is actively used by students of cartography (th
e study and practice of making and using maps) and researchers in history\
, exploration\, and genealogy.  In 2022\, he finalized arrangements and b
egan funding a special endowment through current giving to be topped off w
ith an estate gift. Earnings from the endowment will provide permanent fun
ding for staff\, acquisition\, and/or conservation of the map collection.
This endowment will ensure that the DPL’s important map collection will
only grow in significance in the future. \nLearn more about the map collec
