DESCRIPTION:Shakespeare Scene Study\nJuly 20th – July 31st | Mondays –
  Fridays from 1 – 8 p.m. \nThis class will focus on text analysis\, scan
sion\, and “articulated thought” in Shakespeare’s plays. The textboo
k for this class is Playing Shakespeare by John Barton. All students will
work on soliloquies and sonnets initially\, before moving into scene study
from the Shakespeare canon. \nEach year since our founding\, Visionbox St
udio has offered Summer theatre training intensives to high school student
s and professional adult actors. Throughout our season from September to M
ay\, our classes run in five-week sequences where students and professiona
ls attend classes/rehearsals two times a week. In the summer\, we take fiv
e weeks of class and compress it into a two-week intensive. High School st
udents have three hours of class with Jennifer McCray Rincon from 1-4 p.m.
\, and overlap with our adult classes from 5-8 p.m.\, Monday-Friday\, for
two weeks. These intensives are an in-depth way for younger students to be
introduced to professional acting techniques and the complex writers that
teach us about the human condition. These playwrights prepare us to devel
op new works. \nThis year\, we are very excited to announce our residency
at the International School of Denver! We will be holding all of our high
school and adult intensives at their new building\, which includes classro
oms\, studios\, and a theater. At the end of each class sequence\, student
s will have the opportunity to perform their work for friends\, family\, a
nd industry professionals. \nWe will be holding a Zoom informational sessi

ike Silva*\, and hear about his more than 50-year aviation career flying b

ing his time as a helicopter pilot for KCNC-TV in Denver. While circling t
he area for a different story\, his police scanner picked up reports of an
active car chase. He quickly flew to the scene and learned that police we
re pursuing a prison escapee who had just robbed a local bank and taken a
hostage. The criminal was driving erratically and eventually lost the cops
\, but Mike still had eyes on him and knew he needed to buy the officers s
ome time. In the news helicopter\, he flew low under power lines and lande
d a skid on the hood of the fleeing vehicle\, forcing it to stop. Even wit
h a gun pointed directly at him\, Mike held his ground until police could
arrive and take control of the situation. He immediately flew away safely
and continued to cover the story. Although he did receive firm reprimands
from KCNC and the FAA\, he also earned dozens of awards for his bravery an
d a personal thank-you letter from President Ronald Reagan. \nMike is also
a decorated military veteran who flew in both Vietnam and Iraq. In Vietna
m\, he participated in multiple rescue efforts\, including the infamous su

0 wounded soldiers while flying through smoke and gunfire. Later\, he reen
listed during the Iraq War\, flying medical Black Hawks as the oldest Army

 | Filming August 15th and 16th \nThis intensive will focus on how to make
auditions ‘acting’ as opposed to ‘result-\noriented performance. Thi
s class will be especially helpful for students interested in applying to
colleges and conservatories. At the end of the intensive\, all actors will
have the opportunity to create self-tapes filmed by professional videogra
pher Scott Colby. \nEach year since our founding\, Visionbox Studio has of
fered Summer theatre training intensives to high school students and profe
ssional adult actors. Throughout our season from September to May\, our cl
asses run in five-week sequences where students and professionals attend c
lasses/rehearsals two times a week. In the summer\, we take five weeks of
class and compress it into a two-week intensive. High School students have
three hours of class with Jennifer McCray Rincon from 1-4 p.m.\, and over
lap with our adult classes from 5-8 p.m.\, Monday-Friday\, for two weeks.
These intensives are an in-depth way for younger students to be introduced
to professional acting techniques and the complex writers that teach us a
bout the human condition. These playwrights prepare us to develop new work
 s. \nThis year\, we are very excited to announce our residency at the Inte
rnational School of Denver! We will be holding all of our high school and
adult intensives at their new building\, which includes classrooms\, studi
os\, and a theater. At the end of each class sequence\, students will have
the opportunity to perform their work for friends\, family\, and industry
professionals. \nWe will be holding a Zoom informational session with Jen
nifer McCray Rincon on May 30th from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.\, and anyone is welco

-Lori Parks’ Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece Topdog/Underdog\, direct
ed by Steven Sapp and featuring Curious Artistic Company Member Cajardo Li

st 29 through September 20\, 2026\, with previews August 27-28\, at Cleo P
arker Robinson Dance’s Historic Shorter AME Building\, located at 119 Pa
rk Ave W.\, Denver\, CO 80205. \nThe production marks both the opening of
Curious Theatre Company’s 29th season and the company’s first producti
on in residence with Cleo Parker Robinson Dance while Curious’s longtime
home at 1080 Acoma Street undergoes renovation. \nWritten by Pulitzer Pri
 ze winner Suzan-Lori Parks\, Topdog/Underdog is a fierce\, funny\, and dee
ply human story about two brothers navigating the weight of family history
and the uncertainty of the future. \nBrothers Lincoln and Booth share a c
ramped apartment and a complicated past. Abandoned by their parents and sh
aped by years of struggle\, each is searching for stability\, purpose\, an
d a sense of control over his life. Lincoln has left behind his past as a
skilled hustler\, while Booth dreams of mastering the same card game that
once defined his brother’s life. As they navigate work\, relationships\,
and long-standing resentments\, old rivalries begin to resurface. \nWhat
unfolds is a powerful examination of family\, survival\, identity\, and th
e bonds that connect us even when they threaten to pull us apart. \n“Top
dog/Underdog is a play that asks us to look closely at the stories we inhe
rit and the roles we’re asked to play\,” said Artistic Director Jada S
 uzanne Dixon. “It’s thrilling\, heartbreaking\, funny\, and deeply com
passionate. As the first production in our Season 29 exploration of the qu
estion ‘Who are we to each other?’\, it feels like the perfect way to
begin this next chapter.”\nThe production will be directed by Steven Sap
 p\, an acclaimed theatre artist\, actor\, writer\, and co-founder of the i
nternationally celebrated theater collective UNIVERSES. His work has been
recognized for its innovative blend of theater\, music\, poetry\, and soci
al commentary and he was recently named a Drama League Directors Project R

\, memory\, belonging\, responsibility\, and the ways we care for one anot
her. The production also marks the beginning of a new partnership between
Curious Theatre Company and Cleo Parker Robinson Dance\, one of Denver’s

\nFirst performed in 1928 and inspired by the real-life case of Ruth Snyde

or her. Pressured into marriage\, motherhood\, and a life she never truly
chose\, she finds herself trapped within systems that value obedience over
individuality. \nNearly a century after its premiere\, Machinal remains s
tartlingly relevant. This new adaptation places Treadwell’s classic in c

DESCRIPTION:A director. An audition. A storm.\nA seductive battle of wit\,
power\, and performance. \nThe Other Road Theater Project opens its inaug
ural season with David Ives’ Venus in Fur\, a sharp\, intimate\, and psy
chologically charged play where the line between audition and performance
begins to disappear. \nAt the end of a long day of auditions\, a frustrate
d director is ready to give up on casting the lead role in his new adaptat
ion of Venus in Furs. Then Vanda arrives: late\, chaotic\, seemingly unpre
pared\, and somehow exactly right. What begins as a simple audition quickl
y becomes something far more dangerous as actor and director slip in and o
 ut of the play\, testing each other’s control\, desire\, intellect\, and
  assumptions. \nFunny\, seductive\, theatrical\, and unsettling\, Venus in
  Fur is a two-person power play about gender\, authorship\, dominance\, an
d the roles we perform to get what we want. \nContent Warning: This play i
s for mature audiences only\, containing intense sexual themes/language\,
BDSM\, and mentions of child abuse
