DESCRIPTION:Healing in Color is a space for healing through expressive art
s and creativity. In this group\, it is important to focus on the process
of creating\, and not the product of what you create.\n\n \n\nTogether we
 will explore mindfulness\, emotions\, anxiety\, stress\, and negative thou
ghts in a relaxing and fun way. In this space\, we will engage in artistic
activities to reflect on our needs and experiences using colors and creat
ivity from our minds\, bodies\, and spirits for the intention of healing.\
n\n \n\nEach week we will engage in different expressive art activities us
ing different mediums such as acrylic paint\, markers\, watercolors\, maga
zines\, oil pastels\, and color pencils. You are not required to share you
r artwork but there is space given at the end of the workshop to process t
he artwork\, activity and experience.\n\n \n\nThroughout the workshop ther
e will be soothing background music being played and instructions are give
n in the beginning and can be repeated throughout the workshop. If you are
struggling with the activity the host will assist you with the workshop t
o help you feel more comfortable or capable of engaging with the activity.

DESCRIPTION:THE FORGOTTEN NINE\n\nGallery Reception: Thursday\, September
 10\, 2026 | 5:00–7:00 p.m.\n\nThe TWU Division of Visual Arts & TWU Spec
ial Coolections present an exhibition of the “Forgotten Nine\,” a term
coined by Dr. Jack Davis\, referring to a group of women & Visual Arts fa
culty members who made significant contributions to Texas Woman’s Univer
sity and the Texas art scene. This group of women\, including Marjorie Bal
tzell\, Edith Brisac\, Carlotta Corpron\, Marie Delleney\, Mattie Lee Lacy
 \, Dorothy Antoinette “Toni” LaSelle\, Thetis Lemmon\, Mary Marshall\,
and Coreen Mary Spellman\, had long careers at TWU ranging from twenty-fo
ur to forty-nine years. Mabel Maxcy\, though not included in Davis’s “
Forgotten Nine” was also a significant TWU arts faculty member.\n\n \n\n
During their time at TWU these women not only fostered the artistic talent
s of thousands of students but also made lasting physical marks on campus.
Directed by Toni LaSelle\, the Chapel Arts Project brought together the V
isual Arts faculty members and over three hundred students to create the s
tained glass\, metal fixtures\, carved wood details\, and mosaics for the
Little Chapel in the Woods. While the building no longer exists\, the Forg
otten Nine also had a hand in the interior design of the Classroom Buildin
g\, later called the Patio Building. Edith Brisac\, Carlotta Corpron\, Ton
i LaSelle\, and Mabel Maxcy designed decorative tiles that were fitted in
the wrought iron balcony framework and Coreen Mary Spellman designed a sta
r-themed brick mural on the exterior wall of the former Patio Building fac
ing Oakland Street.\n\n \n\nIn addition to their contribution to teaching\
, the Forgotten Nine pushed the boundaries of the Texas art scene. They in
troduced modernist imagery into their work\, while many of their Texas mal
e contemporaries remained situated in the regionalist style of the time. S
ome of the Forgotten Nine’s work can be found in major collections such
as the Amon Carter Museum of American Art\, Dallas Museum of Art\, Modern
Art Museum of Fort Worth\, National Gallery of Art\, and Whitney Museum of
  American Art.\n\n \n\nThe exhibition runs August 17 – September 11\, 20
26 in the TWU West Gallery\, located within the TWU Fine Arts Building\, a
t 302 Pioneer Circle. Join us for a closing reception Thursday\, September
  10\, 2026 from 5:00–7:00 p.m.

of creating\, and not the product of what you create.\n\n \n\nTogether we
 will explore mindfulness\, emotions\, anxiety\, stress\, and negative thou
ghts in a relaxing and fun way.
If you are
