DESCRIPTION:For decades\, Texas Doctors of Chiropractic have watched col
leagues in other states use a valuable diagnostic tool that was off-limits
to them at home. That may be about to change.  On August 12\, 2026\, Tex
as Attorney General Ken Paxton issued Opinion No. KP-0523\, concluding tha
t the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners has the legal authority to a
dopt a rule allowing properly trained chiropractors to perform needle el
ectromyography (nEMG) using nonincisive needles. The opinion resolves a
long-standing legal question that has kept nEMG out of reach for Texas D
 Cs\, even as the procedure remained a routine\, non-controversial part o
f chiropractic practice in most of the rest of the country.  								\n
 		\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
 		\n \n What Was the Legal Question? \n \n \n \n \n
\n \n \n Texas law has always barred chiropractors from
performing “incisive” or surgical procedures (anything that cuts tissu
e). The open question was whether inserting a needle to perform an EMG cou
nted as an incisive procedure\, or whether a needle can be “nonincisive
” depending on its design and how it’s used (the same logic that alrea
dy permits chiropractic use of acupuncture needles).  The Attorney Genera
l agreed with the position advanced by the Texas Chiropractic Association:
the dividing line in Texas law is whether an instrument cuts tissue\, n
ot simply whether a procedure involves a needle. Because nEMG can be per
formed with a nonincisive needle\, and because EMG itself is fundamental
ly a diagnostic tool for evaluating the condition of the muscular and ner
vous systems\, the opinion concludes the procedure fits squarely within th
e scope of chiropractic practice as the Texas Legislature has defined it.
   								\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
 					\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Why This Matters
 	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Dr. J. Donald Dishma
n\, Professor of Neuroscience and Dean of Graduate Programs at Parker Univ
ersity\, put the significance of this ruling in context:  “The Texas at
torney general has recently ruled that it is within the scope of practice
for Doctors of Chiropractic to perform needle electromyography (nEMG) with
additional training. Prior to this ruling\, DCs in Texas were permitted o
nly to perform nerve conduction studies (NCS)\, which are non-invasive. DC
s were previously barred from performing nEMG\, which is an invasive\, but
vital portion of most electrodiagnostic evaluations. With this ruling\, T
exas DCs with proper training can now enjoy the use of this valuable diagn
ostic tool in their practices\, just as their colleagues in most other sta
tes have enjoyed for decades.”  Nerve conduction studies alone only tel
l part of the story when evaluating nerve and muscle disorders. nEMG fil
ls in the rest\, helping clinicians distinguish between muscle-based and
nerve-based causes of weakness\, and detecting abnormalities that don
’t show up in a standard physical exam. Pairing NCS with nEMG gives a
chiropractor a far more complete electrodiagnostic picture\, closing a lo
ng-standing gap between Texas DCs and their peers in states where nEMG h
 as already been established practice.  								\n \n \n \n \
 n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
 \n \n \n What Happens Next \n \n \n \n \n \n
 			\n \n It’s worth being precise about what KP-0523 does. T
he opinion confirms that the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners has th
e authority to adopt a rule permitting nonincisive needle EMG. It does
not authorize Texas chiropractors to begin performing the procedure. The
Board still must go through its rulemaking process to define the requir
ed training\, credentialing\, and equipment standards before nEMG become
s an authorized part of chiropractic practice in Texas.  In other words:
the legal roadblock has been cleared\, but the road itself is still being
built. That process is expected to unfold over the coming months\, and Par
ker University will be watching closely.  								\n \n \n \n
 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
 	\n \n \n Parker University's Role \n \n \n \n \n
\n \n \n As this new scope of practice takes shape\, ad
vanced diagnostic training (including electrodiagnostics) will become a
n increasingly important part of preparing the next generation of Texas ch
iropractors. Parker University’s Doctor of Chiropractic program has long
emphasized evidence-based\, clinically rigorous training\, and developmen
ts like KP-0523 reinforce why that emphasis matters: the scope of chiropra
ctic practice continues to expand toward more comprehensive\, data-driven
 patient care.  								\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Announcing the 2026 Anime at the Modern Film Festival\, Septem
ber 18-20\, celebrating the Japanese anime genre with films that are visua
lly stunning\, richly imaginative\, and poetic in their storytelling. \nAl
l film screenings will be held in the Modern’s auditorium. Tickets are $
10 ($7 for all Modern members). Cinephiles who plan to enjoy the weekend
’s entire selection of films will receive a discount for pre-purchasing
all their tickets at once. Tickets are available online at www.themodern.o
rg/films or by visiting the museum’s admission desk.  \nAll films were
chosen with the guidance of anime and manga expert Dr. Marc Hairston\, who
will introduce the films and be available for Q&A. A professional space p
hysicist\, part-time anime scholar\, and Fort Worth native\, Hairston has
hosted annual Japanese animation festivals at the Modern since 2012. He is
one of the founding editors of Mechademia\, the first academic journal f
ocused on anime and manga studies\, and has written numerous scholarly art
icles about anime. With Dr. Pamela Gossin\, also at UT Dallas\, he has co-
authored two books about anime and manga aimed at high school-age readers:
Cultural Guide to Anime and Manga (2023) and Exploring Anime and Manga
  (World of Art) (2024). \nSCHEDULE \nAdolescence of Utena\nSeptember 18\,
  7 pm \nAdolescence of Utena (1999) is a stand-alone feature film version
of the groundbreaking TV series Revolutionary Girl Utena. Not a typical sc
hoolgirl\, tomboyish Utena Tenjo arrives at Ohtori Academy determined to b
ecome the prince who saves the damsel. Once there\, Utena finds herself em
broiled in a strange series of ritual duels to win the hand of the mysteri
ous student Anthy Himemiya\, known as the “Rose Bride.” As the story u
nfolds\, both Utena and Anthy must discover the school’s puzzling secret
s while fighting for their own personal freedom. Director Kunihiko Ikuhara
presents a beautifully surreal story\, mixing exciting visuals and operat
ic rock music. As the first mainstream yuri (girls’ love) anime film in
Japan\, Utena has long been a cult classic within the LGBTQ community.  \
nParental discretion advised: this film contains adult themes and slight n
udity\, which may not be suitable for younger viewers. \nTrailer: https://
www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZlqkPaKYP8 \nThe Girl Who Leapt Through Time \nSe
ptember 19\, noon \nThe Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006): In honor of it
s twentieth anniversary\, the festival is pleased to bring back a classic
anime\, the Japanese Academy Award-winner The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.
The first major film by Mamoru Hosoda (Wolf Children\, Belle) is based on
a well-known science fiction story by Yasutaka Tsutsui (author of Paprika
). The film tells the tale of high school student Makoto Konno\, who disco
vers she has the ability to go back a few minutes in time to correct a mis
take. At first\, her “time leaping” is a great benefit\, but when the
fates of her two best friends are at risk\, Makoto discovers it comes with
  a high price. \nTrailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boZINHGDxMw \nCh
 aO \nSeptember 19\, 2 pm \nChaO (2025) is set in the near future\, in an a
lternative Shanghai where humans and merpeople share a tense and uneasy ex
istence. An engineer\, Stephan\, is trying to develop a water propulsion s
ystem that is safe for fish and merpeople. When an accident causes him to
meet ChaO\, the princess of the merpeople\, she immediately proposes to hi
 m. Although he recognizes that this union would ease tensions between the
two groups\, Stephan is uncomfortable dating a human-sized fish—even if
she does transform into a more human shape\, depending on her mood. Thus b
egins STUDIO 4°C’s sweet and goofy romantic comedy\, as the two lead ch
aracters try to overcome their species differences and learn that love is
more than skin- (or scale-) deep. \nTrailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch
 ?v=Cc6VyTu_SH0 \nThe Last Blossom \nSeptember 19\, 4 pm \nThe Last Blossom
(2025): Director Baku Kinoshita and writer Kazuya Konomoto\, the team who
brought us the wonderfully offbeat anime series ODDTAXI\, pair up again t
o bring us the quirky film The Last Blossom. Yazuka henchman Atkutsa is on
his deathbed in prison and discussing his life story with an unusual crea
ture: a talking balsam flower growing in a tin can. In flashbacks\, Atkut
sa recounts his career in crime and argues that his main motivation in lif
e was to care for his found family—Nana\, the single mother he lived wit
h\, and her son\, Kensuke. The flower (an offshoot of plants that used to
grow in their yard) derides him\, telling him that he has lived a pathetic
life. Atkutsa holds out for redemption\, cryptically repeating “it’s
not over until the last move.” Viewers who experience that last move wil
l see why The Last Blossom won both the Jury and Audience Awards at the 20
 25 Scotland Loves Anime Festival. \nTrailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch
 ?v=q9W_wlUgt_8 \nChildren Who Chase Lost Voices \nSeptember 20\, 11:30 am
\nChildren Who Chase Lost Voices (2011): One of director Makoto Shinkai’
s (Your Name and Suzume) earlier works\, this film tells a fantasy story a
bout Asuna\, a young\, introverted girl. When she is attacked by a strange
creature\, she is saved by a boy from the alternative world of “Agartha
\,” who then falls to his death. Asuna turns to her teacher\, Mr. Morisa
ki\, and together they begin the search to find this mysterious alternativ
e world that may\, or may not\, be the land of the dead. The film explores
a recurring theme in the director’s work\, including his later blockbus
ters: searching for what is lost. Shinkai’s gorgeous and luminous animat
ion shines throughout the film. \nTrailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v
 =yxwVJbhqD64 \nCocoon: One Summer of Girlhood \nSeptember 20\, 2 pm \nCoco
on: One Summer of Girlhood (2025): In the last days of the Second World Wa
r\, the US invaded Okinawa. The fighting was fierce\, as US troops tried t
o capture the entirety of Japan’s southernmost island. A group of 200 Ja
panese high school girls\, known as the Himeyuri Gakutotai (Lily Princess
Student Corps)\, had been “volunteered” to help Japanese Army medical
units in the island’s many caves. But as the chaos of the frontline figh
ting took over\, the girls were dismissed and told to go home—a near-imp
ossible task in the midst of a battlefield. Animation studio Sasayuri\, fo
unded and staffed by Studio Ghibli alumni\, presents the beautiful and hea
rtbreaking story of two schoolgirls\, San and Mayu\, as they struggle to s
urvive through the final days of the war. \nParental discretion advised:
this film includes depictions of death\, violence\, and attempted rape\, a
s well as some images of blood\; it is not recommended for younger viewers
 .  \nTrailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=389ClHbs25c

ster. If you are interested\, please reach out to sccgroups@utdallas.edu w
ith your availability\, and group will begin once we have enough students
 and a time/day is chosen.\n\nSPARK Femmes is a supportive\, nonjudgmental
space for women and femmes who are questioning or struggling with the ways
they engage with sex and/or pornography. Because these concerns can carry
especially intense shame\, stigma\, and isolation for women and femmes\,
the group is designed to offer a private\, affirming space where students
can speak openly without fear of judgment.\n\nParticipants will have oppor
tunities to process their experiences\, explore what healthy sexuality mea
ns for them\, and build practical tools for navigating urges\, distress\,
shame\, relationships\, and recovery. Whether this is an issue that has on
ly recently become concerning or something you have been navigating for a
long time\, SPARK Femmes will meet you where you are.\n\nProcess groups ar
e focused on the exploration and open processing and discussion of partici
pants. Process groups are led by one of our therapists and typically more
open-ended and less structured around a specific lesson or topic for the d
ay. Clients are required to complete a group screening to assess whether t
he group matches their needs and interest.\n\nFor process groups\, if you
are not a current or recent client\, please make an appointment to get sta
rted and note your interest in group therapy. You’ll complete intake pap
erwork and have a 30-minute “IC” (individual consultation) with one of
our therapists\, and then get scheduled for a brief screening meeting wit

active presence at the Alan E. Sims Recreation Center\, and participation

 					\n \n \n \n North Texas Giving Day offers C.H.A.T. e

DESCRIPTION:The St. Jude Walk is more than just a walk—it’s a movement
bringing the Dallas–Fort Worth community together to support the lifesa
ving mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjud
e.org/). \nJoin us this September at the Lawn at Grandscape for a family-f
 riendly\, non-competitive 3-mile walk alongside more than 3\,000 participa
nts representing 200+ teams from across North Texas. Together\, we’re tu
rning awareness into action during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month—and
working to ensure that no family ever receives a bill from St. Jude for tr
 eatment\, travel\, housing\, or food. \n💛 Why Join Us?\nBecause every s
tep matters. Every dollar raised helps fund groundbreaking research\, life
saving treatments\, and continued hope for children and families facing un
 imaginable challenges. As a community\, let’s walk for their battles\, f
or their bravery\, and for the brighter futures those kiddos each deserve!
  \n💛 What is the Experience?\n-> An inspiring\, high-energy atmosphere
filled with community spirit\n-> Powerful stories from St. Jude families\n
 -> Meaningful moments—like our symbolic butterfly release—representing
hope and healing \n💛 How to Get Involved:\n-> Go to http://stjude.org/
walkdallas\n-> Click “Start Fundraising”\n-> Either create a team or j
oin a team\n-> Start fundraising\, and mark your calendar for the big day!
  \nWhether you walk\, donate\, or cheer from the sidelines\, you’ll be p
art of something bigger. Hope doesn’t happen by chance\; it happens beca
use people like YOU step up\, step forward\, and step on. So\, let’s com
 e together\, DFW—lace those tennis shoes\, and take steps toward a futur
e without childhood cancer. \nFor the kids!

DESCRIPTION:The Gallery at UTA is pleased to present the Introductions exh
ibition\, which showcases the work of four newly appointed or promoted fac
ulty members in the Department of Art and Art History: Liz Trosper\, Danie
lle Beverly\, Dr. Ananya Singh\, and Dr. Lucy Bartholomee.\n\n \n\nWorking
across digital painting\, documentary cinema\, visual communication desig
n\, and art education\, these four professors share an interest in learnin
g through close attention to people and their stories\, urban systems and
discarded materials\, activist communities\, and artists and histories tha
t have been overlooked. Their practices begin with encounters that challen
ge assumptions and open up new ways of seeing\, thinking\, and making. The
se same approaches shape their classrooms\, where students learn to invest
igate the world\, follow questions\, trace connections\, and imagine what
might be possible.\n\n \n\nDanielle Beverly \n\nAssistant Professor of Cin
ematic Arts Danielle Beverly brings more than two decades of experience in
documentary production and visual storytelling to UTA. The exhibition scr
eens five of her feature-length documentaries\, recognized for their intim
ate observational attention to people and communities navigating moments o
f transformation. Her films move from girls coming of age within a multina
tional gymnastics community (Qatar Stars\, 2023) to histories of racial di
vision and healing in the American South (Old South\, 2015)\; from the emo
tional weight of objects we leave behind (Dusty Groove: The Sound of Trans
ition\, 2019) to artists who transform personal struggle (Learning to Swal
low\, 2005) or discarded materials into new forms of possibility (Lonnie H
olley: The Truth of the Dirt\, 2017). Across these varied subjects\, Bever
ly uses time\, trust\, and close observation to reveal how individual live
s are shaped by larger systems of race\, gender\, history\, and belonging.
  \n\npetuniaproductions.net \n\n \n\nLiz Trosper \n\nAssistant Professor o
f Painting Liz Trosper works between screens\, scanners\, her studio\, and
city curbsides\, exploring how systems of technology\, waste\, and exchan
ge might generate new possibilities for painting and community. In her ong
oing project ALT+drag\, Trosper develops a practice of “digital psychoge
ography\,” systematically exploring urban landscapes and embedding curbs
ide discoveries into digital paintings through improvisational scanning. H
 er persistent fascination with pipes\, pipelines\, hoses\, cables\, among
other discarded materials forms the basis of a new site-specific installat
ion at The Gallery at UTA\, where objects marked for disposal are transfor
med into a large-scale installation and shareable artifacts. At its expans
ive scale\, the work foregrounds physical gestures\, glitches\, and materi
al traces embedded in digital image-making. Trosper’s practice expands t
he possibilities of self-portraiture by embracing the visible traces of to
uch\, the physical presence of human flesh on technological surfaces\, and
productive chaos\, while resisting the sleek\, frictionless aesthetics of
digital culture. A section of the installation extends these ideas into t
he historic indoor garden of the Fine Arts Building\, exploring connection
 s between cultivation\, discarded materials\, and digital systems. \n\nli
 ztrosper.art \n\n \n\nAnanya Singh \n\nThe creative practice of Assistant
Professor of Visual Communication Design Ananya Singh demonstrates how des
ign can become a tool for advocacy and social change. Across commercial\,
 environmental\, and community contexts\, Singh’s collaborative projects
address complex ethical issues. The exhibition features campaigns addressi
ng wildlife trafficking\, a Goodwill campaign focused on sustainable reuse
\, and BRAID (Black Restorative Agriculture Incubation & Development)\, an
award-winning identity supporting Black women farmers and confronting sys
temic barriers surrounding land and agriculture. The images on view demons
trate Singh’s expansive interest in visual storytelling that amplifies u
nderrepresented voices\, collective identities\, and imagines more sustain
able and equitable futures through interdisciplinary collaboration. \n\nbe
 hance.net/14ananyasingh \n\n \n\nLucy Bartholomee \n\nAssistant Professor
of Art Education Dr. Lucy Bartholomee’s practice centers on expanding wh
ose histories\, perspectives\, and creative possibilities enter the classr
oom and contemporary culture. Her recent research on Swedish artist Hilma
af Klint examines the artist’s pioneering abstraction\, spiritual practi
ces\, and resistance to the patriarchal systems that marginalized her work
. Bartholomee extends this research into her teaching\, using art history
as a catalyst for students to explore symbolism\, abstraction\, identity\,
and their own creative voices. The exhibition presents Bartholomee’s pu
blished research alongside creative responses developed with student colla
borators\, who have reimagined her texts for the gallery through engaging
printmaking techniques. The project reflects her broader commitment to ele
vating women artists and empowering students to see themselves as active p
articipants in the production of art discourse and visual culture. \n\nluc

 LIGRAPHY WORKS BY\n\nMahdi Dolatyari & Farzana Razzaque\n\nCURATED BY\n\nJ
 oseph Harper\n\nSeptember 8 – October 3\, 2026\n\nReception Friday\, Sep
 t 11\, 630-8:30\n\n \n\nPost-Script: Redefining the Boundaries of Calligra
phy explores the expansive\n\npossibilities of calligraphic practice beyon
d the conventions of stylistic\n\nwriting. Bringing together works that ra
nge from traditional pen-and-paper\n\ncompositions to sculptural forms\, i
nstallations\, and multimedia experiences\,\n\nthis exhibition reveals cal
ligraphy as both a living artistic tradition and as a\n\ncontinually evolv
ing contemporary artistic practice.\n\nAt its core\, Post-Script honors th
e discipline of calligraphy in its most\n\nfundamental form\, the intimate
relationship between ink\, paper\, and gesture\,\n\nwhile also challengin
g the boundaries of where calligraphy can exist and the\n\nways in which i
t can be experienced. Through the experimental approaches\n\nof contempora
ry calligraphers Farzana Razzaque and Mahdi Dolatyari\, this\n\nexhibition
examines the manner in which artists renegotiate the practice of\n\ncalli
graphy and its ability to transform the written word\, both typographicall
y\n\nand topographically\, into fluid expressions imbued with new material
 s\, spaces\,\n\nand contexts.\n\nDrawing from the artists’ experiences w
 ith language\, translation\, diaspora\,\n\nand belonging\, “script” in
this context serves as a vessel for memory\,\n\nidentity\, and personal h

DESCRIPTION:Eighteen years ago\, members Irv and Cindy Munn dedicated the
Brownstein Munn Memorial Room at Temple Shalom in honor of their parents.
In Jewish tradition\, the number eighteen carries deep meaning – chai\,
life. Now\, eighteen years later\, that same room is being renewed once a
gain\, made possible by another generous gift from Cindy and Irv. It is a
gesture that reflects not only continuity\, but life renewed – memory ca
rried forward with intention\, care\, and love. The updated Memorial Room\
, overseen by Temple member and ASID designer Cristie Schlosser\, honors t
he past while creating a space that feels present\, warm\, and welcoming f
or today’s Temple Shalom community. Yet the room itself is only part of
the story. At its heart are the lives and values of the families it commem
orates – and the enduring commitment of Irv and Cindy to Jewish life\, c
ommunity\, and remembrance. When the room was first dedicated in 2008\, Ir
v spoke movingly about the different worlds from which their parents came.
Cindy’s parents\, Harold and Sylvia Brownstein\, were born and raised i
n Mississippi. Irv’s parents\, Pola and Harry (Herschel) Munn (Moncznik)
\, were born in Lodz\, Poland\, and survived the Holocaust\, losing nearly
their entire families. They arrived in the United States in 1949 with no
belongings and no physical memorials to those they had lost.“My parents
spoke Yiddish\,” Irv recalled. “Harold and Sylvia spoke Southern.” D
espite those differences\, Irv noted something essential that bound the Br
ownsteins and the Munns together: a profound love of family and a deep com
passion for others. “They showed great compassion for others\, always he
lping out those that were less fortunate than them\,” he said – values
Irv and Cindy recognized as perfectly aligned with the values of Temple S
 halom. \n \n \n \n \n Har
old and Sylvia Brownstein on their wedding day\n \n \n
 	\n \n \n \n Irv's Bar Mitzvah. (Pol
 a\, Irv's sister Sonnie and Harry)\n \n \n \n \n
 		\n \n \n \n \n Cindy’s connection to Jewish memory
began early. Growing up in a small Mississippi town\, she was part of a ti
ny Jewish community. “Of the five children in my Sunday School class\, t
hree of us were actually related. The other two felt like relatives becaus
e we were all so close\,” Cindy said. Yet Judaism was never small in her
home. Her parents instilled in her a deep pride in Jewish identity and a
sense of responsibility to represent Jews “in the most positive light.
” When Cindy’s father died in 2005 and her mother passed away just sev
en months later\, she knew immediately how she wanted to honor them. She r
ecalled how her parents had memorialized their own parents – dedicating
memorial boards in their small synagogue and later planting a garden in Cl
arksdale that they lovingly tended for years. Cindy remembered watching he
r father\, every Friday night\, kiss his fingers and touch his parents’
names. That simple ritual created a living connection – one that stayed
 with her. \n \n \n \n \n
 Harold and Sylvia's 60th Anniversary\n \n \n \n \n
 				\n \n \n \n \n Cindy also shared the powerful image
of her parents standing together for Kaddish. Even when her father became
wheelchair bound\, he insisted on standing. Cindy watched her petite moth
er help her tall father to his feet so they could honor the memory of thos
e who had come before them – together. “So\, I know with absolute cert
ainty\,” Cindy said at the 2008 dedication\, “that Mom and Dad are pro
ud of Irv and me and deeply honored by this dedication. However\, they wou
ld be the first to say that this room is not a place just for our family
… but a place for all families to honor the memory of those who have sha
ped the paths upon which we travel.” That belief – that memory is comm
unal\, not private – is at the core of both Irv and Cindy’s lives.
 					\n \n \n \n \n Harry & Pola\
 n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
Irv’s own story begins in a displaced persons camp in Germany in 1948.
Born Israel Kalman Moncznik\, he arrived in the United States as an infant
\, becoming Irving at Ellis Island. His early years were shaped by loss\,
resilience\, and the unspoken weight of survival. Religion was not discuss
ed much at home\; his parents\, like many survivors\, carried their trauma
quietly. It was Cindy who encouraged questions\, who gently asked for tim
elines and stories\, helping Irv’s parents open doors that had long rema
ined closed. Cindy’s upbringing\, though very different\, was equally st
eeped in Jewish leadership and service. Her parents were deeply involved i
n their synagogue and their city. Her father served as synagogue president
\; her mother was active in SOFTY\, helping raise funds that led to the fo
unding of Camp Henry S. Jacobs. Cindy attended Jewish camp in Wisconsin\,
felt connected to Jewish life wherever she went\, and carried that sense o
 f responsibility into adulthood. \n \n \n \n Afte
r meeting in Dallas and marrying in 1975\, Irv and Cindy built not only a
family – raising Jeff and Kim – but a life of sustained community invo
lvement. Their affiliation with Temple Shalom began after Jeff was born\,
and from the beginning\, Cindy was deeply engaged: serving on the Temple B
oard\, participating in executive director and preschool director searches
\, chairing Camp Hooray! at Greene Family Camp\, organizing volunteers for
the golf tournament and Food Truck Palooza\, just to name a few\, and wor
king on important initiatives like Project Atidenu. Irv’s participation
and leadership ran concurrently\, shaped by encouragement and trust from f
ellow Temple members\, eventually leading to the honor of winning the cove
ted Shalom Award – celebrated virtually during COVID. Irv has served as
assistant treasurer\, treasurer\, and ultimately president of Temple Shalo
m\, offering humor-filled High Holiday speeches and steady guidance. It di
dn’t stop there. He went on to serve as president of the Temple Shalom E
ndowment Fund for 14 years and also led the Jewish Family Service of Great
er Dallas Foundation. Yet fun and games were and are also part of Irv’s
makeup. Let’s not forget Irv’s years playing in the Brotherhood Softba
ll League. Ask him about that scar across his eyebrow….Fretz Park’s ou
 tfield will never be the same. \n \n \n \n \n \n
 	\n \n Together\, Irv and Cindy’s impact extends far beyond a
ny one role or title. Their service reflects a shared belief that Jewish l
ife is built through participation\, generosity\, and showing up – again
and again. Now\, eighteen years after first dedicating the Memorial Room\
, the Brownstein Munn Family has ensured that this sacred space continues
to serve future generations. The renovation\, thoughtfully guided by templ
e member and designer Cristie Schlosser\, honors the room’s purpose whil
e refreshing its presence – a living reflection of memory renewed.
 			\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n “I met with Cind
y and Irv early in the process to understand their vision and share my tho
ughts of how we could renew the area\,” Cristie shared. Her team install
ed updated lighting\, selected a deep\, rich tone for the walls\, and put
in carpet tiles with an organic flow inspired by nature. What she is most
excited about is the custom “S” sofa  that allows visitors to face th
e memorial plaque walls on either of the room. “It’s a very cozy and i
ntimate room – the lighting\, furniture and ambiance are exactly what I
was hoping for\,” Cristie added. As Irv said during the 2008 dedication\
, they both hoped that many others would be able to sit in this memorial r
oom and remember and celebrate the lives of their loved ones. That hope re
mains – now strengthened by time\, intention\, and chai.  A rededicati
on of the Brownstein Munn Memorial Room is planned for later this spring.
Additional details will be provided when they become available. \n

. The Cedar Hill Action Team (C.H.A.T.)\, under the direction of Executive
Director Clara McGinnis\, is one of them. By providing educational\, recr

 																						\n \n \n \n This project has a very

after 10:30 p.m. in search of food. She was aware of the difficulties fami
lies encounter in meeting basic needs because she was a working single par

  for C.H.A.T. \n \n \n \n \n
 				\n \n \n In Cedar Hill\, Texas\, the nonprofit now provi
des services to both young people and the elderly. C.H.A.T. offers educati

rough collaborations with the Cedar Hill Independent School District\, an
active presence at the Alan E. Sims Recreation Center\, and participation
in neighborhood events. In addition to providing for immediate needs\, the
ir initiatives create connections within the community and pave the road f
 or long-term success. \n \n \n \n
 					\n \n \n \n North Texas Giving Day offers C.H.A.T. e
xposure\, interaction\, and the opportunity to increase impact. Donations
support the nonprofit’s operating expenses\, enabling them to continue m
eaningfully serving Cedar Hill’s youth and seniors through matching gift

Martin at a Wild DFW activity that the Society has not tried before – Du
sking.\n\nBring a chair and a soothing beverage to sip. Join a bunch of me
llow lovers of nature and the cosmos as we watch dusk descend. Moonlady ak
a Amy Martin will talk us through what to be aware of as quietly watching
the transition from day to night. Reba will help identify the birds that c
atch insects arising at dusk and populate the night. We will ease into the
restorative grace of darkness as we witness nature's shift change.\n\nNot
e that this is NOT an event for restless children who would rather be runn
ing and shouting with excitement at being in the Prairie. We have differen
t events for young children. (See our Christmas is for the Birds event.)\n

n is supported by an impressive lineup of endorsements\, including ADV-Sou
nd\, Marco Bass Guitars\, and Tsakalis Audioworks. But Blue Tongue’s col
laboration with an Austin-based hot sauce company might be their most uniq
ue partnership yet\, boasting a limited edition salsa with local salsa mas
ters\, Fantastic Fuego\, with whom they produced a blue colored hot sauce
called ‘Blumitas’ based on the garlic\, serrano\, habanero\, corn and
basil Chilean dish called Humitas.” \nSpunky and self-sufficient\, the b
and has their own recording studio where Pham taught himself production an
d mixing\, so they could keep creating at will on a modest budget. This ki
nd of magnetic tenacity shines through not just in Blue Tongue’s music\,
but in their overall approach in navigating their steady ascension. As th
e indefatigable Pham sums up\, “Through enough effects pedals\, creatine
