DESCRIPTION:Title: Addressing Unmeasured Confounding in Observational Stud
ies: Advances with Negative Control Methods and Proximal Causal Inference\
n\nAbstract: Unmeasured confounding remains one of the most significant th
reats to the credibility of findings from observational studies. Recent de
velopments in negative control methods\, also known as proximal causal inf
erence\, offer promising strategies to strengthen causal conclusions. Thes
e approaches leverage negative controls —variables that have no direct c
ausal relationship with either the exposure or the outcome — to detect a
nd adjust for unmeasured confounding. In this talk\, I will review the fou
ndations of negative control methods and introduce the double negative con
trol framework. I will then present our recent work extending this framewo
rk to settings where some candidate negative control variables may themsel
ves be invalid. I will conclude with a discussion of open challenges and f
 uture research directions.
