. The Cedar Hill Action Team (C.H.A.T.)\, under the direction of Executive
Director Clara McGinnis\, is one of them. By providing educational\, recr
eational\, and wellness opportunities that foster growth and a sense of be
longing\, C.H.A.T. enhances Cedar Hill’s fabric through programs for bot
 h young people and senior individuals. \n \n \n \n
 																						\n \n \n \n This project has a very
personal core. Clara remembers the night a young boy knocked on her door
after 10:30 p.m. in search of food. She was aware of the difficulties fami
lies encounter in meeting basic needs because she was a working single par
ent. “God showed me that I had to do something for the kids in the commu

  for C.H.A.T. \n \n \n \n \n
 				\n \n \n In Cedar Hill\, Texas\, the nonprofit now provi
des services to both young people and the elderly. C.H.A.T. offers educati
 onal support\, mentorship\, recreation\, meals\, and wellness resources th
rough collaborations with the Cedar Hill Independent School District\, an
active presence at the Alan E. Sims Recreation Center\, and participation
in neighborhood events. In addition to providing for immediate needs\, the
ir initiatives create connections within the community and pave the road f

 					\n \n \n \n North Texas Giving Day offers C.H.A.T. e
xposure\, interaction\, and the opportunity to increase impact. Donations
support the nonprofit’s operating expenses\, enabling them to continue m

DESCRIPTION:COVID-19 disrupted not only everyday life but also familiar wa
ys of commemorating loss. Rather than developing sequentially from tempora
ry memorials to permanent monuments\, pandemic remembrance emerged simulta
neously across spontaneous\, digital\, documentary\, and monumental forms.
Drawing on examples from the United States and transnational contexts\, t
his lecture examines how COVID-19 memorials reshape established practices
of public mourning. It considers how digital participation broadens access
to commemoration\, blurs distinctions between temporary and permanent mem
orial forms\, and enables societies to remember a crisis while it is still
unfolding.\n\nIngrid Gessner is Professor of English and American Studies
at the University of Education Vorarlberg in Feldkirch\, Austria. She ser
ves as President of the European Association for American Studies (2024-20
 28) and as International Delegate of the Austrian Association for American
Studies. Her interdisciplinary scholarship spans visual culture studies\,
gender studies\, and cultural memory. She is the author of Yellow Fever Y
ears: An Epidemiology of Nineteenth-Century Literature (2016)\, for which
she received the Peter Lang Young Scholars Award\, as well as The Vietnam
Veterans Memorial in Public Controversy (2000) and the award-winning From
Sites of Memory to Cybersights: (Re)Framing Japanese American Experiences
(2007). She has published widely on environmental and medical humanities a
