DESCRIPTION:7:10 PM – Levitt Youth Spotlight presented by Texas Trust Cr
edit Union \n7:30 PM – Patrick Pombuena Community Orchestra \nThe Patric
k Pombuena Community Orchestra aims to give a fun and inclusive platform t
o local musicians. I reach out to different artists for each show so that
they can bring their own unique style to the stage. \n8:30 PM – Blue Ton
gue  \nAustin-based funk fusion collective Blue Tongue’s music is serve
d with equal parts funk\, psych and electrifying live performances. Now fo
r the average band\, “electrifying” means solid musical chops and mayb
e a few jumps. But if you’re irrepressible Blue Tongue frontman Tre Pham
(guitar\, vocals)\, it also includes actual gymnastics of the backflip an
d splits nature. The rhythm section boasts drummer Hunter Thompson’s mas
tery of jazz influenced groove\, and Rowan Smoot’s muscular slap bass ar
tistry. The ensemble is completed with Savannah Thieme’s buoyant synth t
extures\, the hilariously virtuosic David Thal on trumpet\, the effortless
ly smooth Trevor Gonzales on tenor saxophone\, the sonic power of Jeremy H
owell on baritone sax\, master Latin Percussionist Alex Alco\, and finally
the additional colors of guitarist Lee Chavez\, now you have a Show. \nWi
th live shows this dynamic\, it’s no surprise that opportunities abound
in the form of festivals\, national tours and club shows opening for belov
ed acts like Sam Greenfield\, Ghost Funk Orchestra (thrice)\, Here Come th
e Mummies\, and Snarky Puppy spin off band Ghost Note. In fact\, a recent
west coast tour culminated in a stellar official performance at NAMM (the
popular music industry convention) in Anaheim\, as well as after shows for
both Vulfpeck and Cory Wong at Stubb’s. \nThe band’s sonic exploratio
n is supported by an impressive lineup of endorsements\, including ADV-Sou
nd\, Marco Bass Guitars\, and Tsakalis Audioworks. But Blue Tongue’s col
laboration with an Austin-based hot sauce company might be their most uniq
ue partnership yet\, boasting a limited edition salsa with local salsa mas
ters\, Fantastic Fuego\, with whom they produced a blue colored hot sauce
called ‘Blumitas’ based on the garlic\, serrano\, habanero\, corn and
basil Chilean dish called Humitas.” \nSpunky and self-sufficient\, the b
and has their own recording studio where Pham taught himself production an
d mixing\, so they could keep creating at will on a modest budget. This ki
nd of magnetic tenacity shines through not just in Blue Tongue’s music\,
but in their overall approach in navigating their steady ascension. As th
e indefatigable Pham sums up\, “Through enough effects pedals\, creatine
\, and sheer determination\, anything is possible.” \nWebsite | Facebook
