DESCRIPTION:Learn to Express Yourself in this Dynamic and Collaborative Ar
t Form Inspired by Indian Social Dance!\n\n\nGarba is a Gujarati social da
nce that has been adapted to many different Indian cultures as a way to ce
lebrate collective joy and celebration of the cycles of life. In Indian\,
as well as many other global cultures\, dance is not something you do beca
use you are “good” at it\; it’s something you do because it is an ac
t of joy and a celebration of the gift of life. This class is inspired by
Garba as well as different aspects of contemporary dance and intended to h
elp improvisers move more freely on stage! \nIn this six hour\, one day in
tensive workshop\, students will learn dance warmups they can perform indi
vidually and with a group with a clear through-line to practical on-stage
skills! Students will learn different formations and different dynamics in
those formations\, including how to communicate those formations to other
s non-verbally on stage and in the moment. The class will culminate in stu
dents moving together to find new formations and sequences that rely on ob
serving and taking turns rather than just mirroring which translates direc
tly into creating improvised musical numbers on stage. There is no prerequ
isite for this class. It is recommended for musical improvisers and anyone
who wants to learn a new physical language of movement to express themsel
ves. \nPlease note that this intensive is very active! Though rest breaks
will be included\, students should be dressed and ready to move! \nTopics
in this Course Include: \n\nPhysical warmups that lay the foundation for b
 oth non-locomotor & locomotor movement\nCreating complementary movements i
n pairs\nMirroring\, passing “leadership” of the movement\, and playin
g with focus\nBuilding collective expressions with variation of movement w
ithin the whole group.\n\nAbout Your Instructor \nSahara Reddy Kahn has be
en a student and performer at Stomping Ground for almost three years and i
s a member of the musical house team\, Vocal Fried. They have had many yea
rs of both formal and informal dance classes including genres like jazz\,
hiphop\, and contemporary. They have always enjoyed expressing themselves
through movement\, and coming from a family and culture that is encouraged
to choreograph and perform dances as gifts to their loved ones. They are
excited to bring this workshop to you! \nThis is a one day weekend intensi

a way to celebrate collective joy and celebration of the cycles of life. I
n Indian\, as well as many other global cultures\, dance is not something
you do because you are “good” at it\; it’s something you do because

dynamics in those formations\, including how to communicate those formatio
ns to others non-verbally on stage and in the moment. The class will culmi
nate in students moving together to find new formations and sequences that
rely on observing and taking turns rather than just mirroring which trans
lates directly into creating improvised musical numbers on stage. There is
no prerequisite for this class. It is recommended for improvisers\, music
al improvisers\, and anyone who wants to learn a new physical language of
movement to express themselves. \nPlease note that this intensive is very
