DESCRIPTION:A transformation is coming to Downtown Dallas’ Main Street!\
nOpening Day: May 24 \nBetter Block is excited to work with Downtown Dalla
s\, Inc. (DDI)\, to Activate Main Street during a major fútbol event this
summer. The goal for this temporary project is to not only showcase Dalla
s at its best\, but to create a more walkable\, bikeable environment so th
at residents and visitors can navigate through the Downtown’s Main Stree
 t. \n“Activate Main Street shows what’s possible when we design our st
reets for people\, not just cars\,” said Azael Alvarez\, Project Manager
of Better Block. “With the World Cup bringing thousands of visitors to
Dallas\, this is an opportunity to create a more walkable\, vibrant Downto
wn that supports local businesses and gives both residents and visitors a
new way to experience Main Street.” \nIn partnership with DDI and Dallas
neighbors\, Better Block will reutilize parking spaces along Main Street
into vibrant community spaces featuring seating\, shade\, games\, new Wiki
 block designs\, a World Pup Stick Library\, and a large-scale ground mural
inspired by the texture of Downtown Dallas. \nWhile the program is a temp
orary demonstration lasting approximately 39 days\, Better Block will work
alongside DDI and local volunteers to gather data on the pilot’s impact
on public life\, traffic speeds\, and safety – helping inform future\,
 long-term improvements.

DESCRIPTION:In the hours following the assassination of President John F.
Kennedy\, the United States faced the challenge of ensuring continuity of
leadership during a moment of national shock and uncertainty. Vice Preside
nt Lyndon B. Johnson would assume the presidency and guide the nation thro
ugh a period of profound transition. \nJoin the Museum and Dr. Mary C. Bre
nnan\, a nationally recognized historian of postwar American politics\, fo
r a discussion of Johnson’s accession to the presidency and the decision
s that shaped the early months of his administration. Examining the politi
cal realities\, public expectations and institutional responsibilities tha
t accompanied the transition\, Dr. Brennan explores how Johnson establishe
d his leadership by advancing an ambitious legislative agenda that would l
eave a lasting mark on America. \nMuseum members receive discounted ticket
pricing. Contact to learn more. \nAbout the Speaker\nBorn and raised in C
 incinnati\, Ohio\, Mary C. Brennan received a Ph.D. from Miami University
of Ohio in 1988. Her first book\, Turning Right in the Sixties (UNC Press\
, 1995)\, evolved from her dissertation and examined the conservative “c
apture” of the GOP through the Goldwater campaign. Since then\, she has
focused on women’s roles within conservatism in general and the anticomm
unist movement in particular. Her book\, Wives\, Mothers\, and the Red Men
ace\, (Colorado 2008) evolved from her curiosity about Joe McCarthy’s wi
fe. Her most recent monograph\, Pat Nixon: Embattled First Lady\, was publ
ished by the University Press of Kansas in 2011\, as part of their Modern
First Ladies Series. She has appeared on C-SPAN’s “First Ladies: Influ
ence and Image” series as well as CNN’s “The Sixties” and particip
