In his nar ration\, Herzog explains that this film will not be a typical Antarctica f ilm about "fluffy penguins" but will instead explore the dreams of the peo ple and the landscape.\n\n \n\nThe film was shot in Antarctica as part of the same NSF Antarctic Artists and Writers Program. The entire film crew c onsisted of Herzog\, who recorded all production sound\, and cinematograph er Peter Zeitlinger. The pair went to Antarctica without any opportunity t o plan filming locations or interviews\, and had just seven weeks to conce ive the project and shoot their footage.\n\n \n\nThe freewheeling nature o f the time in Antarctica meant that Herzog often only met the interview su bjects minutes before beginning to film them. \n\nFilming in Antarctica is usually overseen by the NSF's media office\, which approves and supervise s all film productions.
