the early ‘90’s she was recognized and awarded several Columbus Music
Awards in categories of outstanding rock and folk vocalist\, artist deserv
ing higher recognition\, acoustic solo performer and recording artist. In
the late 1990’s she wrote The Streets Where I Live. This song gave the l
istener a vivid description of what life looked and felt like in what is n
ow known as “the art district” called The Short North before renovatio
n of the area in early 2000. Shortly after that\, with a little tweaking t
he song was used by Experience Columbus to promote and market Columbus\, O
hio. She was the first woman Grand Marshall in 2015 for Columbus’s Itali
an Festival. She had her own Sunday Radio Show called the Acoustic Coffee
 House on Cd(101) now 92.9 from 1991-’95 and 1998-2000. \nShe recently re
leased her long awaited fourth original Cd The End Of the Drive\,  a comp
ilation of songs that tell many stories flavored in rock\, country\, folk
yet signature Donna Mogavero style. The album is a tribute to all her frie

DESCRIPTION:Research from The Girls’ Index™\, Ruling Our eXperiences (
ROX)’s large-scale national survey of girls in grades 5-12\, shows that
88% of girls feel pressure to be pretty. The Girls’ Index also shows tha
t girls who like their bodies “the way they are” are nearly 10 times m
ore likely to be confident. In short? A healthy body image matters when we
think about raising confident girls. As we gear up for back-to-school sho
pping\, this is especially important to keep in mind as our girls enter fi
tting rooms or try on clothes at home. It’s no surprise that trying on c
lothes can bring up negative thoughts about our bodies\, we’ve all been
there\, right? So what can you do to support the girl(s) in your life? The
Girl Experts at ROX have three key strategies to help your girl build a h
ealthy body image this back-to-school shopping season. (Bonus: these tips
will help you and your girl!) 1. Be aware of how you speak about your own
body\, or other people’s bodies in front of your girl. The truth is: girl
s are listening and learning from the example we set. If we speak negative
ly about our own bodies\, or other people’s bodies\, she’ll learn to t
hink and speak negatively about her own body\, too. She’ll learn that he
r external appearance is being judged by other people\, and that she\, too
\, should be judgemental of her own body’s appearance. Spend the next we
ek with this at the top of your mind. Notice if you’re about to say some
thing negative about your body\, or someone else’s’. Then? Show yourse
lf some compassion and gently stop yourself from saying the comment out lo
ud. That’s it! We’re simply catching the negative comment before we sa
y it. Being able to notice our own thoughts and words is the first step to
being more intentional with how we speak about our bodies\, especially in
front of our girls. The good news? The more you practice this\, the easie
r it becomes! Let’s make negative body comments a thing of the past. Tru
 st us\, everyone benefits from this! \n \n \n \n \n \
 n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
 			\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
 		2. Teach your girl to identify and value her internal characteristics mo
re than her external appearance. In a world that stresses the importance of
our appearance\, let’s commit to changing the game for our girls. How?
Teach your girl to identify and value her internal characteristics more th
an her outward appearance. We want girls to learn to value who they are as
a person rather than valuing what she looks like. Start to point out when
you notice your girl doing something of value. For instance\, you could s
ay things like: That was a very smart observation! I love what a critical
thinker you are.You should be proud of your hard work studying for that ma
th test. It was impressive.I love how you make us all laugh. You have such
a great sense of humor! You showed such great leadership on the soccer fie
ld today. You were able to lift the team’s spirits and keep everyone fee
ling motivated! When we point out these internal traits that girls demonstr
 ate (intelligence\, work ethic\, humor\, leadership\, etc.)\, we get to sh
ow her that those are valuable traits\, that who she is and how she acts i
s valuable. BONUS ROX TIP! Have her write down an affirmation and put it s
omewhere she sees often\, like on the bathroom mirror\, or perhaps on her
nightstand. It could say something like: I am smart\, I am brave\, or I am
  kind. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
 			\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
 	\n \n \n \n \n \n 3. Teach your girl to value
her body for what it does for her\, rather than what it looks like. This is
a key body image strategy. Teach your girl to value her body for all that
it does for her\, rather than placing importance on what it looks like. H
ow do you start this? Role model it! When you’re doing something with yo
ur girl\, you could say something like: I’m so grateful I’m able to wa
lk around the mall with you\, having two capable legs is a privilege.Isn
’t it cool that our stomachs digest our food and turn it into nutrients
and energy?I’m grateful to have strong arms to carry these shopping bags
!I’m grateful for deep breaths that help calm me down. The key to buildin
g a healthier body image\, both for you and your girl\, is to know that it
’s about building resilience. We live in a world where negative body ima
ge triggers are everywhere\, so having a negative body image thought is no
rmal. Once we start to build these positive body image practices\, however
\, we are able to build strength and resilience for when the negative thou
ghts happen. The goal is that we’re able to notice the negative thought\
, reframe it\, and move on quicker instead of going down a negative though
t spiral. The goal isn’t to never have another negative body image thoug
ht! While that would be wonderful\, it’s likely not realistic. \
 n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
Did You Know? Building a Healthy Body Image Is One Topic Covered in th
e Evidence-Based ROX Program for Girls! We know that girls thrive when the
y have healthy environments both at home and at school. That’s why our R
OX Program for Girls Facilitators create healthy environments at school th
at include lessons on building a healthy body image for the girls in their
ROX Group. When these positive lessons are taught at home and at school\,
our girls will have an easier time building these important skills.

DESCRIPTION:Fonville x Fribush is the brand new musical collaboration from
acclaimed drummer Corey Fonville (Butcher Brown) and in-demand organist S
am Fribush. Like a hip-hop link up from the 90s\, the pair’s collective
ear\, musical talents and friendship pushes the limits of the organ trio s
ound into a more youthful\, tasty style of blue collar jazz. The trio feat
ures a rotating cast of guitarists\, including Charlie Hunter\, Alan Good
Parker and Morgan Burrs. Songs like “I Couldn’t Love You More” and
“Blue Chips” immerse audiences in Atlantic Coast soundscapes of their
hometown roots in North Carolina and Virginia.  \nCorey Fonville climbed
the ranks among the East Coast’s most sought-after drummers and producer
s for hip-hop\, jazz and R&B in recent years. As a founding member of Butc
her Brown\, he’s performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk and toured the world\, i
n addition to musical collaborations with ESPN and producing albums for ar
tists like Ledesi\, DJ Jazzy Jeff and more.  \nSam Fribush is also one of
the freshest young bandleaders and collaborators\, known for his signatur
e aesthetic and voice – a vintage 1957 C3 Hammond Organ. “Our intentio
n is to take this music into the future\,” Fribush says. “We’re tryi
ng to expand the rules about what organ trios can do.” \nListen to the d
ebut Fonville x Fribush EP – ‘R&B Organ Trio’ featuring Charlie Hunt
 er – out New Year’s Day\, January 1\, 2026. Fonville x Fribush will al
so drop their debut LP\, ‘What Day Is It’ featuring Alan Good Parker\,
available exclusively on vinyl via WarHen Records. \nFood & Bar: Our full
food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.
