y name is Gabe and I’m beyond thrilled to join Stonewall Columbus as the
Adventure Pride Facilitator. I am a Columbus native and lived in Boston f
or 10 years before returning to my home state to live my exuberant queer l
ife here in the Midwest. I currently live in the Short North with my amazi
ng daughter and my delightfully silly dog. \nI’m an engineer by day but
love to get outside and experience the wholeness of the wild\, natural wor
 ld. I love rock climbing\, mud races\, kayaking\, gardening\, painting\, a
nd improv. My most recent adventure was a 130-mile solo kayaking trip that
left from Columbus and followed the Scioto River until it merged into Ohi
o River. It was as fun as it was challenging\, and the time in nature empo
wered me to connect to my inner strength and beauty. \nI hope to use my ro
le at Stonewall to do some of my favorite things: connecting with people\,
honoring my body through movement\, and being out in nature. I’m so exc
ited to meet you all as we go on outdoor adventures and explore some of th
e amazing space central Ohio has to offer.

DESCRIPTION:Join Clintonville Books as they welcome Arved Ashby\, author o
f My 1980s Gayboy Playlist. \nIn this remarkably intimate book\, music wri
ter Arved Ashby reflects on the pieces that shaped his sexual and musical
awakenings as a troubled\, closeted gay adolescent in the rural Midwest. \
nMy 1980s Gayboy Playlist is less memoir than autotheory\, written in a li
terary rather than scholarly style. Ashby reengages with eight musical tou
chpoints — some old musical flames that still smolder — while drawing
on ideas from Roland Barthes\, Eve Sedgwick\, Leo Bersani\, Michael Warner
\, and other queer theorists. \nFocusing on the decade of AIDS terror\, Re
aganomics\, and the Moral Majority\, Ashby explores queer desire as it mov
ed messily yet secretively across different avenues of expression\, tracin
g connections between erotic experience and musical fantasy. \nArved Ashby
is Emeritus Professor of Musicology at The Ohio State University.
