information will only be used for the express purpose of this program\, un
less you opt in to receiving our monthly newsletter. \nHere is some info a
bout this year’s activities that may help you decide which are best for
you: \n\nAll activities meet at 10am on Saturdays\nThe specific meet-up lo
cations will be emailed to you on the Friday before each outing\nWe will s
hare details about each location\, to the best of our knowledge\, includin
g ADA accessibility\, difficulty level\, and if pets are welcome (service
animals are always welcome)\nThe facilitator will have a liability waiver
for you to sign before the start of each outing\n\n\nOur facilitator is Ga
be McDonald (he/him)!\nMore about Gabe:\nHello fellow queer adventurers! M
y name is Gabe and I’m beyond thrilled to join Stonewall Columbus as the
Adventure Pride Facilitator. I am a Columbus native and lived in Boston f
or 10 years before returning to my home state to live my exuberant queer l
ife here in the Midwest. I currently live in the Short North with my amazi
ng daughter and my delightfully silly dog. \nI’m an engineer by day but
love to get outside and experience the wholeness of the wild\, natural wor
 ld. I love rock climbing\, mud races\, kayaking\, gardening\, painting\, a
nd improv. My most recent adventure was a 130-mile solo kayaking trip that
left from Columbus and followed the Scioto River until it merged into Ohi
o River. It was as fun as it was challenging\, and the time in nature empo
wered me to connect to my inner strength and beauty. \nI hope to use my ro
le at Stonewall to do some of my favorite things: connecting with people\,
honoring my body through movement\, and being out in nature. I’m so exc
ited to meet you all as we go on outdoor adventures and explore some of th
e amazing space central Ohio has to offer.

DESCRIPTION:Migration on the Big Walnut Trail\nWhen: Sunday\, September 2
 0\, 2026\, 8:30 am – 1:00 pmWhere: Meet at Academy Park in Gahanna –
MapDescription: Land bird migration should be starting to peak as we vi
sit this series of parks along the Big Walnut Creek Corridor in Gahanna an
d northeast Columbus. We’ll start at Academy Park and make several stops
at parks along the trail as it wends south along the Creek\; this greenbe
lt has a good history of attracting large numbers of migrant passerines\,
especially flycatchers\, vireos and warblers\, and is good for raptors as
well.Wear comfortable walking shoes\, as surfaces will be mostly flat and
paved\, but occasionally we’ll hit dirt trails. The main trail is not ve
ry exposed\, but the creek valley can be misty\, so you might want to take
along a jacket. For more details contact Rob Thorn\, 614-551-0643 or robt

 ay\, October 4\, 2026\, 8:30 am – 2:00 pmWhere:  8:00 am\, Westerville
Community Center (map) or 8:30 am Alum Dam Spillway Park (map)Descriptio
n: Migration should be very good as we visit these two reservoirs north o
f Columbus.  We’ll start at Alum\, where the small woodlands at the sou
thern end of the Lake are excellent migrant traps\, and the wide lower res
ervoir attracts a wide variety of gulls and waterfowl.  After taking in t
he morning migrants there\, we’ll move to the upper end of nearby Hoover
Reservoir to scout different habitats for different migrants. The reservo
ir level should be low enough to produce some migrant waders\, dabbling du
cks\, and shorebirds.  Bring sturdy shoes (for lots of walking on dewy\,
but flat trails)\, snacks\, and a windbreaker/jacket if the weather is co
ld. For more details contact Rob Thorn\, 614-551-0643 or robthorn6@gmail.
