DESCRIPTION:Ron Athey – Marquis Von Bayros – Rachael Bos – Jamie Fle
tcher – Danny Frownfelter – Norbert Kox – Bill Lilly – Monika Plio
plyte – Sun Ra – Philipp Schopke – Jon Serl – Bronislaw “Bruno
 ” Sowa – Maria Vanik – Jean Wilson – Albert Zahn\n  \nPray\, carv
e\, bleed\, sing. Insist that to look death in the face\, ritually and rep
eatedly\, is how one kisses life on the lips. This is magic understood pla
inly: not sleight of hand\, but the discipline of transformation\, and rel
igion in its most degraded form. \nThe sacred\, in this view\, is not piet
 y but rupture: sacrifice\, ecstasy\, laughter\, daemonic entities\, and th
e corpse. Death here is not simply a subject but a method. Art becomes the
site where the restricted economy of production and survival is deliberat
ely breached\, where a sovereign act of wasting oneself – bleeding\, pra
ying\, dancing\, carving toward no useful end – recovers a continuity be
tween beings that ordinary\, bounded selfhood forecloses. The works gather
ed here stage exactly this breach: each refuses the discreteness the self
is supposed to maintain\, offering itself instead as a willful expenditure
\, a controlled burn of the prairie’s boundary – on the border where t
he living meet the dead. \nBeneath that scorched wound runs a river. Death
is not an event waiting at the end of a life but a force already coursing
through it. A pure differentiation\, the self already a multiplicity bein
g continuously undone and reassembled beneath its own name. This current t
reats the human not as a form to be preserved but as a threshold to be lau
ghed at\, dissolved\, desire and death fused into a single accelerant burn
ing through identity toward what is on the other side. This exhibition’s
icons are not meditations on mortality\, they are remnants of mortality
’s discharge\, operations and apparatuses built by hand\, and by body\,
to run the current of death through the self on purpose – not to master
it\, but to see\, however briefly\, who or what rears its head from beneat
 h the surface. \n  \nOpening reception:\nAugust 7\, 2026\n5-8pm \n  \nCX
 W hours with the guest curator:\nSeptember 17\, 2026\n5:00 – 8:00 pm \nT
his exhibition runs through September 25\, 2026. \n******Guest curated by

r and curator based in Chicago\, IL. His artworks have been exhibited at t

stead of Romeo\, balconies\, and swordfights\, our Juliet encounters AC/DC

DESCRIPTION:Veteran Illinois artist Mike Baur has been creating sculptural
works in the Chicago area since 1976. His pieces are featured in numerous
public spaces and museum collections\, including two works held by the Ko

interpretations of these environments\, frequently suggesting a horizontal
orientation that reflects how natural forces can subdue vertical structur

each month from 5 pm to 8 pm! The tour will start at 6 PM on time. All tou
rs depart from the reception desk\, and please be sure to arrive on time.
The event offers wine and appetizers. \nThis Friday at 7-7:40 PM\, our Res

sian Art as part of the project If The Sky Could Dream.  \nAbout the Tour
  –  \nLearn about Asian Art in the Heritage Museum of Asian Art with a
guided hour-long tour around the gallery. Museum-trained interns and volun
teers will give a talk on selected artworks. Each word is packed with fasc
inating insights\, information\, and stories. During this participatory ex
perience\, you’ll connect with works from across the collection and get
a close look at highlighting artworks. Visitors of all ages are welcome. \
nPlease note tours may be canceled or postponed due to unforeseen circumst
ances. \nAbout the project –  \nIF THE SKY COULD DREAM focuses on the C
hinese dragon as a powerful being that fosters harmony. This creature is e
mblematic of China as well as a mythological being for many Asian and West
ern cultures and thus evokes a sense of mysticism\, and intrigue in many c
ommunities. Representing the Chinese Dragon as a water deity\, the install
ation series will feature images and projections of the weather and local
bodies of water in Chicago. \nIf The Sky Could Dream is supported\, in par
t\, by a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant \nAbout Irene Hs
iao \nIrene Hsiao creates performances in conversation with visual art in
 museums\, galleries\, and public spaces\, a practice that includes site-sp
ecific interaction with visual artworks and experimental engagement with a
rtists\, institutions\, and the public. Find out more through our website.
\nAccessibility \nThe Heritage Museum of Asian Art’s Entrance is on Wes
t 35th Street. Take the elevator to the third floor and turn right to the
Museum Reception Desk. Accessible and standard toilets are located on the
same floor. Free parking space is available next to the museum via West 35

 00-8:00pm \nFree and open to the public! \nAbout the exhibit: \nJapanese t
ea ceremony\, or chanoyu (茶の湯)\, is a living practice shaped throu
gh the preparation and sharing of a bowl of tea. Within this seemingly sim
 ple yet carefully considered act\, objects\, gestures\, movement\, attenti
on\, hospitality\, and relationships come together. \nThe Way of Tea pres
ents tea utensils and related materials from the collection of the Japanes
e Culture Center of Chicago\, including objects from the collections of th
e late Ikka Nakashima Sensei and Omar Francis Sensei\, as well as objects
acquired by the Center. Additional objects are drawn from the private coll
ection of Mami Takahashi. Accompanied by video documentation\, the exhibit
ion considers how cultural knowledge is carried through objects\, embodied
practice\, and relationships between teacher and student\, host and guest
. \nThe Way of Tea is a part of our Japan in Practice rotating exhibito
n series. Japan in Practice is a rotating exhibition series presented in
celebration of the International Museum of Surgical Science’s new Japan
  Room\, opening October 23\, 2026. Bringing together contemporary artists\
, cultural practitioners\, and objects from the Japanese Culture Center co
llection\, the series explores relationships among art\, the body\, materi
 al\, memory\, health\, and everyday life. \nChanging exhibitions consider
how artistic and cultural practices—from calligraphy\, tea\, and textile
s to contemporary interdisciplinary art—carry knowledge through the body
and across generations. Presented alongside the Museum’s collections an
d its Anatomy in the Gallery program\, Japan in Practice expands conve

DESCRIPTION:The Uncanny Attic is a theatrical anthology inspired by Edward
Gorey’s iconic The Gashlycrumb Tinies. This absurdist dark comedy serie
s brings to life\, and then almost immediately to death\, the book’s twe
nty-six ill-fated children. Each installment ‘chapters’ of The Uncanny
Attic creates imagined histories for four of Gorey’s ill-fated characte
 rs as told through puppetry\, clowning\, dance\, live music\, drag\, stop-
motion animation\, and visual theater. \nSet inside the mysterious attic o
f an abandoned house on the cape and narrated by a family of resident racc
oons\, each chapter is a self-contained theatrical journey into the camp m
acabre world of the fictional town\, Willowdale. There\, through a series
of not-so-random circumstances\, audiences encounter an unforgettable cast
of eccentric characters whose fates inevitably lead to a delightfully sti
cky end. \nThe Uncanny Attic: Chapters I-L cast includes veteran performer
s in several disciplines including co-creators Jennifer Friedrich (Incurab
le Theater\, Redmoon Theater) and Bazuka Joe (Poonie’s Cabaret\, Newport

DESCRIPTION:Open Space Arts is proud to present SMILEY by Guillem Clua\, a
sharp\, funny\, and deeply relatable queer romantic comedy that has capti
vated audiences around the world. \nOriginally premiering in Barcelona\, S
MILEYquickly became a breakout success in Spain\, enjoying extended runs i
n Barcelona and Madrid and earning widespread acclaim. Since its debut\, t
he play has been produced internationally across Europe and Latin America\
 , with productions in Germany\, Italy\, Greece\, Cyprus\, Chile\, Puerto R
ico\, Peru\, and beyond. \nWhile SMILEY has become a global audience favor
ite\, it has had only limited exposure in the United States\, with select
Spanish-language productions in New York and Miami. Open Space Arts’ pro
duction introduces this internationally celebrated work to Chicago audienc
es\, offering a fresh opportunity to experience one of the most engaging c
ontemporary queer love stories to emerge from the European stage. \nWhen
ÁLEX leaves a voicemail for his ex\, it lands in the inbox of BRUNO—a s
tranger. What begins as a wrong message turns into an unexpected connectio
n between two very different men. As texts turn into calls\, and calls int
o something more\, they navigate attraction\, vulnerability\, and the comp
licated reality of modern love. \nFunny\, fast\, and disarmingly honest\,
SMILEYexplores the thrill and risk of connection in a world shaped by scre
ens\, expectations\, and the fear of being truly seen. \nGuillem Clua is o
ne of Spain’s most widely produced contemporary playwrights\, whose work
has been staged internationally and translated into multiple languages. H
is plays\, including SMILEY and THE SWALLOW\, are known for their emotiona
l intelligence\, wit\, and insight into the complexities of human connecti
on. \nOpen Space Arts continues its commitment to bold\, intimate storytel
ling that centers queer lives and voices with SMILEY\, a play that reflect
 s the company’s ongoing exploration of connection\, identity\, and the e
 volving nature of love.

DESCRIPTION:Open Space Arts presents THE SWALLOW\, an intimate and deeply
moving two-character drama by internationally produced Catalan playwright
Guillem Clua\, author of SMILEY\, which Open Space Arts presented in a suc
cessful extended run in June and July 2026. \nFeaturing Michelle McKenzie-
Voigt and Jim Nally\, THE SWALLOW is set during a private singing lesson b
etween a choral director and a new student. As they work together on a son
g\, what initially seems like a simple musical exchange becomes something
more personal\, more complicated\, and more revealing. \nWith humor\, tens
 ion\, and emotional precision\, the play explores grief\, memory\, family\
, faith\, identity\, and the stories people tell in order to survive. Musi
c becomes both a refuge and a doorway\, allowing two strangers to move tow
ard truths that have been difficult to face. \nTHE SWALLOW is a powerful t
heatrical encounter about loss\, compassion\, and the possibility of conne
ction when people are willing to listen. \nPerformance Schedule \nTHE SWAL
LOW runs September 11–27\, 2026\, with performances on Fridays and Satur
days at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 3:00 PM. \nA possible extension would run O
ctober 2–18\, 2026\, with the same performance schedule: Fridays and Sat

DESCRIPTION:Metropolis Performing Arts Centre\, located in the heart of do
wntown Arlington Heights\, 111 W. Campbell St.\, is proud to announce the
cast and creative team for Ride the Cyclone\, September 16 – October 25.
Ride the Cyclone is presented with book\, music and lyrics by Jacob Richm
ond and Brooke Maxwell. The Metropolis production is directed by original
American cast member Lillian Castillo\, and music directed by Carolyn Brad
 y. \nIn a now-abandoned theme park not so long ago\, six teenagers hurtled
to their death on the roller coaster The Cyclone. Now\, those teens are b
ack from the afterlife\, with all of their unlived dreams\, potential\, ho
pes\, and fears in tow. They grapple with the lives they led on Earth and
the choices they made – all except a mysterious and headless girl named
Jane Doe\, who has no memory of her past. As instructed by a fortune-telli
ng machine named The Amazing Karnak\, the teens need to decide who amongst
them will receive the gift of returning to their life. As they fight to b
e the one to return\, they realize that life’s ups and downs\, tragedies
and victories\, love and loss are all just part of the ride. \nAn added b
onus to the Metropolis production features Director Lillian Castillo. Cast
illo is the original “Constance” on the world premiere cast recording.
She originated the role in the American premiere at Chicago Shakespeare T
heater and continued performing in the Off-Broadway\, Seattle and Atlanta
productions. \nThe regular performance schedule is Thursdays and Fridays a
 t 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 and 7:30 p.m. The performance o

DESCRIPTION:Continuing to make musical history with every sold out perform
ance around the world\, legendary pop duo Air Supply is riding the wave of
an eventful banner year in 2026\, with concerts across North America\, Au
stralia\, South America\, Europe and Asia\, a biopic in the works\, an imp
ending Star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame and – brace yourselves\, devot
ed Airheads – A Matter of Time\, their first studio album in 15 years.
Graham Russell’s heartfelt and soul-piercing songwriting talents\, along
with his and Russell Hitchcock’s dynamic trademark vocals\, are on emph
atic display throughout the multi-faceted 11-track collection\, due to dro
p digitally December 3\, with the same release date for an exclusive speci
al edition 80’s style vinyl version. Released to coincide with Air Supp
ly’s incredible 50th anniversary as a duo\, A Matter of Time caps an his
toric career that compares to the Beatlesque feat of five consecutive Top
Five Singles (“Lost in Love\,” “All Out of Love\,” “Every Woman
in the World\,” “The One That You Love\,” “Here I Am”). During t
heir early 80’s run\, they sold a collective total of 20 million copies
of their first three albums (Lost in Love\, The One That You Love\, Now &
Forever) and the 1983 Greatest Hits collection and achieved multi-million
radio plays for five of their hits\, including “Sweet Dreams” and the
Jim Steinman-penned “Making Love Out of Nothing At All.” \nThe release
of the album comes seven months after Graham and Russell celebrated a hal
f century since meeting as chorus members of the Australian touring compan
y of Jesus Christ Superstar in a most extraordinary way – headlining a s
old-out show at Carnegie Hall on their actual 50th anniversary date. Whil
e most of the duo’s albums have been produced by Graham\, the singer/son
gwriter was delighted to work this time with Grammy-nominated Canadian pro
ducer Brian Howes\, a two time Juno Award\, Dove Award and multiple BMI Aw
ard winner whose star-studded career includes recordings by the rock bands
Skillet\, Puddle of Mudd\, Nickelback\, Hedley and Simple Plan and tracks
by American Idol greats Daughtry and David Cook. A Matter of Time took a
full two years to come together from inception to completed production fo
 r several reasons – Air Supply’s relentless ongoing 130 date U.S. and
international annual tour schedule and Howes’ insistence\, even in this
digital age\, that all of Graham and Russell’s vocals be recorded at his
studio in Courtenay\, Canada\, an island off the coast of British Columbi
 a\, requiring several trips. \n  \nBuy Now
