DESCRIPTION:Ron Athey – Marquis Von Bayros – Rachael Bos – Jamie Fle
tcher – Danny Frownfelter – Norbert Kox – Bill Lilly – Monika Plio
plyte – Sun Ra – Philipp Schopke – Jon Serl – Bronislaw “Bruno
 ” Sowa – Maria Vanik – Jean Wilson – Albert Zahn\n  \nPray\, carv
e\, bleed\, sing. Insist that to look death in the face\, ritually and rep
eatedly\, is how one kisses life on the lips. This is magic understood pla
inly: not sleight of hand\, but the discipline of transformation\, and rel
igion in its most degraded form. \nThe sacred\, in this view\, is not piet
 y but rupture: sacrifice\, ecstasy\, laughter\, daemonic entities\, and th
e corpse. Death here is not simply a subject but a method. Art becomes the
site where the restricted economy of production and survival is deliberat
ely breached\, where a sovereign act of wasting oneself – bleeding\, pra
ying\, dancing\, carving toward no useful end – recovers a continuity be
tween beings that ordinary\, bounded selfhood forecloses. The works gather
ed here stage exactly this breach: each refuses the discreteness the self
is supposed to maintain\, offering itself instead as a willful expenditure
\, a controlled burn of the prairie’s boundary – on the border where t
he living meet the dead. \nBeneath that scorched wound runs a river. Death
is not an event waiting at the end of a life but a force already coursing
through it. A pure differentiation\, the self already a multiplicity bein
g continuously undone and reassembled beneath its own name. This current t
reats the human not as a form to be preserved but as a threshold to be lau
ghed at\, dissolved\, desire and death fused into a single accelerant burn
ing through identity toward what is on the other side. This exhibition’s
icons are not meditations on mortality\, they are remnants of mortality
’s discharge\, operations and apparatuses built by hand\, and by body\,
to run the current of death through the self on purpose – not to master
it\, but to see\, however briefly\, who or what rears its head from beneat
 h the surface. \n  \nOpening reception:\nAugust 7\, 2026\n5-8pm \n  \nCX
 W hours with the guest curator:\nSeptember 17\, 2026\n5:00 – 8:00 pm \nT
his exhibition runs through September 25\, 2026. \n******Guest curated by

r and curator based in Chicago\, IL. His artworks have been exhibited at t

DESCRIPTION:Veteran Illinois artist Mike Baur has been creating sculptural
works in the Chicago area since 1976. His pieces are featured in numerous
public spaces and museum collections\, including two works held by the Ko
ehnline Museum of Art. This exhibition showcases sculptures inspired by th
e textures and forms of natural landscapes—often vast expanses interrupt
ed by both organic and industrial elements. Baur’s work offers abstract
interpretations of these environments\, frequently suggesting a horizontal
orientation that reflects how natural forces can subdue vertical structur

DESCRIPTION:Presented by Sandra Niesvizky\, PhD\, MS \nThursday\, Septemb
 er 24\, 2026 \n9am-12pm PT / 11am-2pm CT / 12pm-3pm ET \nEvent held online
via Zoom\, link to access provided upon registration. \nThis advanced-lev
el program is designed to develop functional clinical Spanish skills for t
herapeutic practice\, grounded in The Skilled Helper Model by Gerard Egan.
Through a structured\, experiential approach\, participants learn to comm
unicate ethically and effectively with Spanish-speaking clients across div
erse helping contexts. The curriculum emphasizes communication for safety\
, alliance-building\, and meaning-making rather than grammatical perfectio
n\, aligning language use with core therapeutic competencies (Egan\, 2018)
. By integrating language learning with the three stages of Egan’s model
 —Exploration\, Understanding\, and Action—participants strengthen thei
r ability to support client agency\, foster therapeutic alliance\, and tra
nslate insight into concrete steps. \nParticipants develop Spanish for clo
sing sessions with care: summarizing progress\, confirming next steps\, an
d setting follow-up plans. The session emphasizes continuity of care and c
lient empowerment.  \nWe practice gentle endings that protect dignity—e
specially after heavy material—using language that includes gratitude\,
hope\, and realistic planning. Participants learn how to invite final ques
tions and confirm understanding.  \nZoom link will be available on course
page in “My Courses” upon event registration.  \nThis program\, when
attended in its entirety\, offers 3.0 CEs for Psychologists\, 3.0 IL CEUs
for Counselors and Social Workers\, 3.0 BBS California CEUs for LPCCs\, L
PSWs\, and LMFTs\, or 3.0 NBCC Clock Hours.

DESCRIPTION:Nationally\, there are increasing conversations about reparati
ons for long histories of racial harm. In the last decade\, there have bee
n multiple efforts across Chicago and Illinois to undertake reparations\,
including work to document the history and extent of harm\, to address and
repair harm done\, and to make payments to harmed communities and individ
uals. These efforts have ranged widely\, including organizing in Chicago o
n behalf of the Burge Torture Survivors in Evanston to address long histor
ies of discrimination in housing\, arts/activism-related efforts to addres
s the history and present harm of land sale contracts in the Englewood nei
ghborhood in Chicago\, and the State of Illinois’ legislative creation o
f new African Descendants Citizens Reparations Committee.\n\nThis panel ev
ent\, sponsored by the Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy\,
will examine what we can learn from these efforts — some initiated by go
vernment entities and some initiated by community organizers\, and organiz
ations making demands on behalf of communities that have been harmed.\n\nR

DESCRIPTION:The Secret Sisters with Mary Bragg \nSince their 2010 self-tit
led debut\, The Secret Sisters have brought their spellbinding harmonies t
o songs that untangle the thorniest aspects of life and love and womanhood
 . In the making of their new album\, Mind\, Man\, Medicine\, Alabama-bred
siblings Laura Rogers and Lydia Slagle found their songwriting transformed
by a newfound sense of self-reliance and equanimity\, threading their lyr
ics with hard-won insight into the complexities of motherhood\, commitment
\, compassion\, and self-preservation in an endlessly chaotic world. Cente
red on a kaleidoscopic sound that boldly blurs the edges of country-folk\,
the duos fifth full-length ultimately confronts many of modern lifes hars
hest challenges while leading the listener toward a more open-hearted stat
e of mind.In our previous records there was a feeling that we had somethin
g to prove\, but now were leaning toward a place of peaceful acceptance an
d trying to stay immersed in the present\, says Slagle\, noting that their
shared experience in parenting young children greatly informed that shift
in perspective. There are definitely still moments of frustration and ang
er on this album\, but theres also a little more light\, Rogers adds. I th
ink a lot of that came from getting older\, and from letting go of the pre
ssure we put on ourselves in the past. We finally reached the point of say
ing\, Lets just write the songs honestly as we can\, and trust that theyll
reach whoever theyre meant to reach. The follow-up to Saturn Returntheir 2
020 Grammy-nominated LP co-produced by Brandi Carlile and lavishly praised
by the likes of Rolling StoneMind\, Man\, Medicine finds The Secret Siste
rs co-producing alongside Ben Tanner (Alabama Shakes\, St. Paul On Saturn
Return wed gotten much more confident as far as directing the sound of the
record and knowing how to capture our voices in the most honest way\, so
it felt like the right time for our first foray into production\, says Rog
ers. The latest in a series of critically lauded releases\, the album came
to life at FAME Studios (the historic spot in their hometown of Muscle Sh
oals) and at Sun Drop Sound in nearby Florence\, with contributions from s
uch esteemed musicians as Alabama Shakes bassist Zac Cockrell and legendar
 y multi-instrumentalist Larry Campbell (Paul Simon\, Willie Nelson\, Levon
Helm).Referring to The Secret Sisters latest chapter as one where we seek
\, savor\, and settle\, the duo lifted the title to Mind\, Man\, Medicine
from a lyric in Same Water: a gorgeously bluesy meditation on the search f
or healing in a profoundly troubled world\, channeling both weariness and
empathy with soulful conviction. Theres a line in Same Water that says Min
d or man or medicine/I have tried them all\, which feels like it encompass
es everything we were trying to say on this record\, Slagle explains. In a
lot of these songs were struggling with our own minds and emotions\, with
our relationships\, and with whatever were using to try to cope and find
 relief.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the release of my latest album … PAST LIVES … a
once in a lifetime sonic experience awaits :)\n\n\n“Somewhere between Ch
arles Mingus and Johnny Greenwood there is a sound that bassist/composer N
icholas Krolak seeks.” \n“A young veteran of the Philadelphia music sc
ene. He has spent the last decade working as a side-man\, experiencing new
styles\, and studying with the masters. Now\, he has taken all he has lea
rned and is applying it to his own artistic adventures.” \n“Tracing th
e lineage of bebop into the contemporary\, while constantly balancing the
pulse of the city and the mysticism of nature: he has been described as…
” \n“a different kind of songwriter—perhaps a different kind of jazz
musician altogether. He’s like the bass playing\, modern embodiment of
Walt Whitman. And\, just as Whitman used his prose poems\, Krolak uses his
music to celebrate and also reconcile the competing and contradictory nat
ure of the two worlds he straddles: the natural and the urban.” \nMatt S
 ilver – WRTI \n=========================================================
=========== \nThis tour exists inside the world of PAST LIVES. \nIt takes
shape in rooms where listening changes … where sound lingers\, attention
sharpens\, and the space between notes matters. These are not ordinary ni
ghts. They unfold gradually\, shaped by the room\, the people in it\, and
whatever arrives in the moment. \nNothing is rushed … \nNothing is repea
ted … \nThe music is allowed to breathe\, to stretch\, to move time in u
nfamiliar ways. What happens is shared\, fleeting\, and difficult to descr
