tcher – Danny Frownfelter – Norbert Kox – Bill Lilly – Monika Plio
plyte – Sun Ra – Philipp Schopke – Jon Serl – Bronislaw “Bruno
 ” Sowa – Maria Vanik – Jean Wilson – Albert Zahn\n  \nPray\, carv
e\, bleed\, sing. Insist that to look death in the face\, ritually and rep
eatedly\, is how one kisses life on the lips. This is magic understood pla
inly: not sleight of hand\, but the discipline of transformation\, and rel
igion in its most degraded form. \nThe sacred\, in this view\, is not piet
 y but rupture: sacrifice\, ecstasy\, laughter\, daemonic entities\, and th
e corpse. Death here is not simply a subject but a method. Art becomes the
site where the restricted economy of production and survival is deliberat
ely breached\, where a sovereign act of wasting oneself – bleeding\, pra
ying\, dancing\, carving toward no useful end – recovers a continuity be
tween beings that ordinary\, bounded selfhood forecloses. The works gather
ed here stage exactly this breach: each refuses the discreteness the self
is supposed to maintain\, offering itself instead as a willful expenditure
\, a controlled burn of the prairie’s boundary – on the border where t
he living meet the dead. \nBeneath that scorched wound runs a river. Death
is not an event waiting at the end of a life but a force already coursing
through it. A pure differentiation\, the self already a multiplicity bein
g continuously undone and reassembled beneath its own name. This current t
reats the human not as a form to be preserved but as a threshold to be lau
ghed at\, dissolved\, desire and death fused into a single accelerant burn
ing through identity toward what is on the other side. This exhibition’s
icons are not meditations on mortality\, they are remnants of mortality
’s discharge\, operations and apparatuses built by hand\, and by body\,
to run the current of death through the self on purpose – not to master
it\, but to see\, however briefly\, who or what rears its head from beneat
 h the surface. \n  \nOpening reception:\nAugust 7\, 2026\n5-8pm \n  \nCX
 W hours with the guest curator:\nSeptember 17\, 2026\n5:00 – 8:00 pm \nT

DESCRIPTION:Flyway City: Architecture for a Flourishing Ecosystem\, design
ed and co-curated by architecture and urban design practice Studio Gang in
collaboration with the Chicago Architecture Center\, spotlights bird-frie
ndly architecture and design. Chicago poses a particular danger to birds b
ecause of the city’s location on the migratory Mississippi Flyway and it

g materials and interactive media\, along with bird-related artifacts from
local Chicago organizations and individuals\, the exhibition aims to insp

DESCRIPTION:Veteran Illinois artist Mike Baur has been creating sculptural
works in the Chicago area since 1976. His pieces are featured in numerous
public spaces and museum collections\, including two works held by the Ko
ehnline Museum of Art. This exhibition showcases sculptures inspired by th
e textures and forms of natural landscapes—often vast expanses interrupt
ed by both organic and industrial elements. Baur’s work offers abstract
interpretations of these environments\, frequently suggesting a horizontal
orientation that reflects how natural forces can subdue vertical structur
 es.\n\n \n\nThe Public Reception takes place on Thursday\, July 2\, 5 - 8
 p.m.\n\n \n\nViewings take place from July 2 to September 25\, 2026\, duri
 ng regular museum hours.

he quilting stage\, but you’re just not sure if you want to hand-quilt t
hem\, machine-quilt them\, or send them out to a longarm quilter. Or maybe
you’re unsure of how to approach the design of the quilting itself. \n
\n\n\nAt our September meeting\, we’ll have a panel of member experts an
d a moderator to provide ideas and perspective about quilting designs\, ap
proaches\, and methods. Bring your completed quilt tops and let our panel
offer suggestions for how to quilt them. Wondering about how to prepare a
quilt for longarm service? Alternate ways to baste a quilt? How to approac
h hand quilting? This is the opportunity to ask all sorts of quilty questi
ons. Panel members – and the audience – will be invited to share input
